Some of them would probably actually like to date you, but figure that they're in the friend zone, and settle for just being friends with you. A handful of them don't really give a shit about you one way or the other, and just want to sleep with you, but act friendly towards you in hopes of making that happen. Another handful just like you in a 100% platonic way (though some of them had the hots for you at some point).

The majority of them like you as a friend in the exact same way that you like them as a friend, except that they want to do you in ways that you read about.

You say it like guys just want to use them for sex, and aren't legitimately friends with them. That often isn't the case at all. dropdeadkate has in her mind that they're all just 100% platonic friends with her. Other girls have a viewpoint from the opposite extreme--"they're just playing along in an effort to use me for sex."

What I'm getting at is that neither of these things are the case, lots of times. I'm making numbers up, here, but let's say that, out of women that a guy wants to sleep with, 10-20% are viewed strictly as an object for sex...and another 10-20% are viewed as someone who he'd like to have a real romantic involvement with (though that doesn't mean he won't settle for a more casual sexual relationship if that's what's available).

The other 60-80% of the time, he actually does like hanging out with you, being legitimate friends with you, doing things with you, etc. He doesn't really want to date you, but he would love for your friendship to include crazy monkey sex from time to time, in addition to stuff like going to bars/parties, sporting events, and otherwise hanging out doing whatever else.
