what spices did you use? I feel like alot of the spiced winter beers are too heavy on the cardamom.

^cool, that sounds pretty tasty. I've liked most of the beers I've had that are brewed with honey, but I'm not sure if the yeast ferments out all of the sugars from it so I don't know how much it actually affects the flavor.

Anyone tried that new Sam Adams' I just saw a commercial for?

Noble Pils

Quote :

Deep golden in color with a citrusy hop aroma, Samuel Adams Noble Pils is a traditional Bohemian Pilsner. The honeyed malt character from traditional Bohemian malt is balanced by delicate yet pronounced citrus, floral, and piney notes from the Noble hops. The winner of our 2009 Beer Lover’s Choice election, this beer was chosen by over 67,000 drinkers for its crisp complexity and refreshing taste."

oh yeah, now i remember. has anyone seen the film Beer Wars?

http://www.beerwarsmovie.com

It was released middle of last year to a select number of screens and festivals but starting today it's out on amazon, itunes, ps3 and xbox networks to download and watch. There are also a few torrents out there for it. It's about 80-90 minutes long and discusses the Big 3 takeover of beer in the USA during the early part of the 20th century and the rise of demand and supply for craft beers and more exotic beers and how the Big 3 have tried to combat that.

I watched the first 20 minutes of it last night and it was pretty interesting. Plan on watching in its entirety today.

It's pretty good, it's hoppy but not particularly bitter...kind of like a toned down Prima Pils

I bought a bottle of this the other day, should be pretty tasty:

That Coffee/Oatmeal by Terrapin was delicious. Probably the best Porter/Stout I've had this year until I got this a couple weeks ago:

Tasted like cold hot chocolate. 11% ABV!! I went through about 2/3 a growler while at work the other night and was pretty drunk by the time I was done (a few shots helped as well).

^^^That stuff is awesome, actually I really like just about all the Southern Tier beers. They came out with a blend of Choklat and their coffee stout Jahva awhile back that I really wanted to try but never did:

^it's not distributed in NC at this time...pretty sure it's available in both SC and VA though. I always stock up whenever I'm out of state.

I picked up a six pack of this the other day, hopefully it's good:

^It's similar to an Imperial Stout, but less roasty and more fruity (it's brewed with raspberries I believe)

just made a hoppy bevmo run to compliment the exponential hoppiness that's on its way over for the game

picked up a new avery double ipa (dugana -- will see how it compares to the raj), a port hop-15, a green flash imperial ipa, and a sixer of ruination

also have a dorado and maharaja chillin' in the beer fridge

bring on the hops!

1. I drank a significant amount of shitty domestic light beer this weekend for the first time in ~six months

My palate has become far too refined for this junk

2. Suggest unto me your favorite witbiers

I'm drinking a Flying Dog Raging Bitch right now:

It's quite good, definitely one of the best Belgian IPAs I've had and a great value at $8.99 a sixer (it's 8.3% ABV)

^Those are both very good, though the Happy Ending is really more of a Black IPA than it is an Imperial Stout.

It's called KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout), I picked up a 4 pack today at College Beverage for $18.99 but I think it was the last one. Peace Street or Whole Foods might have some though.

I, too, picked up some KBS. shit is expensive for a 12oz bottle. But it's ranked #5 on beeradvocate's top beers list.

^^Did not see sorry I enjoyed it, almost a hybrid. I started drinking it right out of the fridge and it you tasted more of the wheat characteristics. As it warmed, the red wine flavors really started to kick in. Its rather strong, but I enjoyed...the whole thing

mmm...Coffee, chocolate, BOURBON. The head was dark brown like the filling of a Reece's peanut butter cup. Really smooth, not as thick as I was expecting...slight alcohol burn.
