haha yeah this is an epic backline

nani has had 3 great breaking opportunities and has just given the ball away on 2 of those occasions...this is why you arent starting mr jefferson

epic anderson pass for welbeck to score..called offsides, ridiculously close call

OWEN HAT TRICK!!! WOOT WOOT!!!

thats why he has to be included in englands world cup squad if he is fit. the man just knows how to finish. if capello takes crouch/defoe/bent and leaves owen out then he is dumb for that. crouch and bent are awful finishers. and defoe's stats are inflated by that game against wigan where my mom couldve scored. owen is the perfect striker to have off the bench with poise, experience and lethal finishing for a last 15-30 minutes goal

on that last goal id say owen still has some pace in him too, dribbling from half field, staying ahead of the defenders, and finishing the 1v1

I think they have to get a point to definitely qualify. They have 8 right now, so if inter or rubin kazan win, theyll have 9. If Kiev wins, they'll have 8 also, so they could qualify too, as unlikely as that is.

yeah im not sure what the goal differential is for barca but if kiev wins it will make things interesting

if kiev win by 2 goals then they will be tied with barca on goal differential....not sure how teams get in after that

also, its a late game in kiev where it will be cold as shit...that should favor kiev at least

Check out their goal totals, awful finishers don't put up goal tallies like that consistently.

If United had Bent or Defoe, Owen would never see the field.

[Edited on December 8, 2009 at 8:19 PM. Reason : he rarely sees it as is]

yeah i dont need to. bent hasnt scored in like 2 months. crouch has less goals than owen. defoe's numbers, like i said already, are exaggerated from that wigan game where some of us couldve scored...

im not saying this just cause owen is on united...i would never ever in a million years take peter crouch. he is garbage. i would take defoe and rooney as they have been the most consistent this year. as far england's strikers go, that leaves me with about 4 left to choose. of the healthy choices left i would take carlton cole as my 3rd string, and michael owen as 4th striker and/or super sub if england need a goal...

if owen isnt healthy, though, i wouldnt risk it. but then i have no idea who id want after that...might just keep only 3 strikers and use gerrard as a subdued striker in some games kinda like he did for liverpool when they had alonso

and actually now that i think of it some more, if walcott was healthy id prob only take 3 strikers and use walcott up top as 4th string if needed

I was arguing "hey look, ____ has more goals than Owen so he's better." I was saying that awful finishers cannot score the amount of goals those three guys score on a regular basis.

I'm not sure how one hat trick all of a sudden makes Owen the Owen of 7 or 8 years ago either. Let's see him do it consistently next year first.

Quote :

Well, you're wrong. He's no Rooney or Torres, but he's proved his worth in goals and it seems like Capello thinks he's doing something right. 18 goals in 17 starts for England? Doesn't seem like garbage to me.

[Edited on December 8, 2009 at 8:33 PM. Reason : Crouch]

he doesnt have to be the owen of 7 or 8 years ago. he still is that guy....he's just as lethal scoring right now as back then. (i might do this if im bored enough, but the amount of goals he has scored from the minutes he has played is prob close to the same amount as all the other england strikers. and he is doing it with not much time on the field to get anything done.) his pace as shown by his last goal today isnt too far off from years ago...he is just turning 30 this week. hell capello has been talking about taking owen's old striker partner heskey to the world cup...what has that guy ever done besides score a goal about every 3 months...if even that?

^have you checked who he has scored against? almost all of his goals have come against the likes of hungary, belarus, andorra, jamaica, estonia, trinidad and tobago, macedonia....i think either 5 or 6 of his goals came against andorra and jamaica....impressive.

owen's prob got more hat tricks in his career than crouch has meaningful goals. he now has at least 2 hat tricks in the country of germany...a defensive country.

[Edited on December 8, 2009 at 8:45 PM. Reason : and crouch is only 1 year younger than owen]

weak argument

You're right, a player's goal total may not entirely define a player but you can't just throw away the statistic completely. A forward is on the field to score goals and Crouch does, how else could a forward for England prove himself? By not scoring against those teams?

weak argument my ass! owen has scored against pretty much all the top teams in the world more than once...they are practically the same age and michael owen has THAT much more experience than crouch. you just must be pissed off still that lolverpool sold him off when he was still killin it in the EPL

so you are telling me with both players bodies of work...come may if michael owen has scored more goals than crouch, you would take crouch? thats ridiculous

the "weak argument" was before your edit

I'm not taking anything away from Owen... he was a freaking baller and he very well could be that guy again. My point is that you can't get too carried away with a hat trick that's pretty much out of nowhere.

And I'm just tired of the hate thrown at Crouch all the time. He scores plenty of goals for his club teams but somehow he's a bad finisher. He scores plenty of goals for England but apparently the competition wasn't good enough so they don't mean shit.

form and fitness >> "body of work" for the WC. again, I'm not counting Owen out of anything but he's got to show me more than what he did today before I'd give him a spot. I'm not even sure how much its going to matter because of roster space anyways

and I don't think it would even be Crouch vs. Owen for a spot anyways, they're completely different players. It's probably Bent or somebody like Ablongahor that would keep him out because Crouch is going to be up against Cole and Heskey. Defoe's a lock at this point, imo
