Quote : | "Although that's 100 pounds less than a Civic SI and 600 less than a Mustang, it's better to judge the BRZ against a more natural competitor: the BRZ is 10 65 hp and 73 lb-ft down on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but is about 600 pounds lighter." |
Definitely great news, but comparison to the 210 hp version of the GC is silly when the 275 hp version will be out in no time. And yet the auto rags continually do it....12/6/2011 11:08:50 AM |

I'm not saying I'd pick the GC over the BRZ (gay name by the way, whatever happened to real names) but we're just comparing Hyundai and Subaru here. Not like Subaru is some highly prized prestigious brand. 12/6/2011 11:23:48 AM |

apparently for the subaru version you need to go up to the limited version (~$27k) in order to get the 17" wheel and spoiler upgrade 12/8/2011 1:53:19 PM |

Strange. I've heard the spoiler provides no downforce and only helps improve the drag coefficient. Either way I don't think it looks good. Now wheels...I think 17s are perfect for this car. 12/8/2011 3:07:00 PM |

FR-S First Drive, with video http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2845
Some differences between the 2:
Quote : | "To keep costs down, the Scion FR-S has manual heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls and a traditional key-based ignition slot on the right side of the steering column (the slightly more upscale Subaru BRZ has automatic climate control and push-button start/stop)." |
Quote : | "We probed the Scion engineers, as it was our intention to elicit a confession about the mechanical differences between the Suburu BRZ and the FR-S. With carefully chosen words, they pointed out the aforementioned equipment premiums in the Subaru (of course, it is expected to be slightly more expensive). In addition, they hinted that the Scion was tuned more for sport, while the Subaru was tuned more for ride compliance. Does that mean the BRZ is slightly softer? We will have to drive both back-to-back to evaluate." |

a few interesting tidbits from the InsideLine "test":
Quote : | " 3. There's Solid Evidence a Turbo Is Coming Tada-san tells us the FR-S's Aisin-built six-speed manual has headroom to handle more torque, but he won't reveal how much. Still, his conspicuous laugh tells us there's enough to accommodate turbocharging.
The primary benchmark for the FR-S was the Porsche Cayman.
Also, for a car with a flat engine the FR-S's hood line is awfully high. Forward visibility isn't as good as we imagined it would be in a car with this layout. But this might be a worthwhile compromise.
A quick look under the hood reveals several inches between the top of the intake manifold and the underside of the hood — probably enough to package an intercooler. It looks to us like there's enough real estate for a WRX-style intercooler mount with the intake manifold feeding from the rear instead of from the front as it does in normally aspirated trim." |
Quote : | "Also, that engine will be rated at 200 hp in the U.S., Tada says. U.S. models will get a unique, less restrictive exhaust to bump them from 200 PS (197 SAE hp) to a full 200 SAE hp. It also adds a better exhaust note, says Tada." |
Quote : | " 8. A Stripped-Down Model Is Likely A bare-bones stripper model — one with steel wheels and no amenities — will be sold in Japan. For now, the U.S. FR-S won't be offered in this trim. But it's easy to imagine this happening down the road should the platform become as popular as it deserves to be." |

about half way in they dyno it at 172 PS and they show engine guts (open deck block ftl however it does seem that the sleeves ar thicker... probably because the bore is 9mm smaller.

.... yes and if you exceed the limitations of the rod on your s2k you also exceed the limitations on your sleeves as well.
I'm not stupid any of the uber power s2k guys sleeve their motors too. 1/24/2012 8:26:41 AM |
Quinn All American 16417 Posts user info edit post |
its an import tin can, you dont need to sleeve the block to have missed the point of the platform. 1/24/2012 8:28:27 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
ahhh see that's where most subies differ... they're not completely useless above 400hp because we still have plenty of traction there matter of fact... that's just when it starts to become fun and not some lumbering understeering oaf.
Which brings up a good point... if they do make a turbo version... stage 2 (should be around 250-300 whp) should be one hell of a perfect setup.

You could run 400WHP until youre blue in the face with a good open deck engine.
Dont hate because one company didnt execute.

^^ and how was i hating i never said the s2000k was a bad car, its fun to drive stock... my legacy was entertaining but it wasn't fun. AND i applied s2000k logic to the new brz.. which means if you go past 300-350 wheel you've completely blown the balance of the car... unless you're a drifter.
Yeah i'm just saying for the 4 banger crazies... i mean it takes 25- 30 psi on an ej25 to get into the 500whp range and then they start to jack up because the bore distorts.
i mean the ecoboost has 1.5x the pistons to spread the load around and the smaller bore means they're probably stronger anyway so where 450 seems to be the ej brick wall before sleeves are needed, 1.5x that would be plenty of power for a taurus or a truck not to mention the subies have a crappy sleeving process that allows them to use thinner sleeves.
I just like closed deck blocks because they make me feel like the bore is sturdier.

LOL i'm not!! i wish i had an s2000 but i wanted a 4 door.
I do think it's a better drivers car especially at legal speeds.
Where awd starts to help handling is when a rwd car starts to be difficult to put the power down... up until then its just a understeering oaf.
I'm knocking MY car. I just got to a point where i can get the car to relax and round the corner rather then push like a pig through it. 1/25/2012 10:35:12 AM |
