You shouldn't feel stupid, but I just don't think it's a good idea to start categorizing people in that way. People are far more complex and interesting that any list of attributes/interests you're going to read about them or request of them on some internet dating site. You may one day find yourself in love with a woman who is few if any of those things you just listed, but you could be wonderful for each other.

what i did was basically put myself up there as honestly as possible, and pretty much left everything else wide open (a few must haves like "non smoker" just because they're already deal breakers for me), and so far i havent even done a search for a girl on that site. it sends me like 5 girls i might be in to, and then everything else is wide open and basically they all just approach me. some are a little too passive, and for those, unless they're really attractive i just ignore them. the ones who are interested email you and you just go from there.

it's really not a bad way to go if it's just an option on occasion. im never short of opportunites, but im not like, sitting at home clicking through profiles all night either. just see who is up for doing something and when and where. it's pretty no frills actually.

Pics are very important. I prefer pics of vacations over pics from a club. Then again, I hate clubs, so I try to avoid guys who go to clubs. Also, I like pics of people doing activities that they enjoy doing, like running or playing sports or cooking.

my sister made me sign up awhile ago. i log on every few days or so when there is a wink or if someone is interested in me, but i've only been out a few times from it. i dated one girl for awhile but decided i wasn't that into her and went out with a couple girls who were really awkward in person. the most recent date from the site (a couple months ago?) went really well, she asked me out for drinks after and asked if i had plans later that week but it didnt work out after that.

for those of you on it how do you feel about messaging? i don't like messaging too much before a date because then if there is no chemistry it makes things awkward. i prefer to leave a lot of that stuff for the first date.

hmm..not sure what to make of online dating. I mean, I've heard success stories, and most of the time I hear either horror stories or just "we weren't into each other." Either way, I don't judge those who choose to use online dating sites...I just wouldn't pay! but seems like most of 'em you gotta pay. I did match a few years ago and met a great guy. I mean I met alot of losers too. He is a VP at BB&T and a really nice guy. We dated a year or so, but came from really different backgrounds so I didn't see it going to marriage. So I think match isn't so bad. sorry girls he just got married to some lawyer lady last month.

^^if that's real, misspellings, grammar errors, and one long run on sentence are a deal breaker. you don't have to be a stickler for those things, but damn, that makes my head hurt.

my sister met her husband on Yahoo Singles or something or other. this was probably around 2003, and i don't know if it exists anymore. but she was in medical school and had no time to meet people outside her field (which is what she wanted) and ending up finding a chemical engineer from NCSU. he's my brother in law, but he is as much family to me as either of my sisters.

it's funny because after they met, they knew they would get married. they didn't want our family to know they met online because they were worried about the stigma of it all. so what did they tell us? that they met at a bar! i had fun with that one.
