If they had actually broken a story that could lead to NCAA sanctions, it could deserve a front page in a respectable newspaper. I honestly can't understand why this got put anywhere better than the 3rd page in the sports sections with a story on Shaw football.

Yeah, Smith shouldn't have done it. He didn't get ticketed and other than figuring out what car he was driving there's nothing he needs except a slap on the wrist and not do it again.

Can someone who is really good with video editing make a NC State basketball highlight video, with a little footage of the recruits, to the Juelz Santana song "Second Coming"? Maybe include this picture at the end? Thanks ahead of time to the person that may end up doing this.

if they did get McAdoo this season and he was a beast, he couldn't be one-and-done due to age...he would have to stay and ball out for them for a 2nd season

Anybody know when the schedule is released?

Right now for our OOC I know we have Arizona, @Wisc., @Syracuse, and possibly vs. Georgetown.

ACC Now- Summer Hoops Preview '11: The Picks
Quote :
"In the immediate aftermath of his fourth, and most unlikely national title, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told Jim Nantz of CBS:

"It's hard for me to imagine that we're the national champions."

Funny, that's exactly what the people who watched Duke lose by double-digits to N.C. State and Georgetown were thinking.

If (when?) Duke wins the national title in 2011, there will be no such surprise for Coach K or anyone else in college basketball. The Blue Devils will begin the 2010-11 season as the prohibitive favorites in both the national and ACC races.

Just a summer ago, Duke was looking up at North Carolina, winner of two national titles in a five-year span, and was caught in a personnel tailspin. The Blue Devils lost the John Wall Sweepstakes, Gerald Henderson to the NBA and Elliot Williams to Memphis, in the same depressing offseason.

An ACC title was still a good bet (and first made here last June), but the Final Four? Behind the scoring and leadership of Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer, Duke was indeed the last team standing. With Singler and Smith back, Duke stands in front of everyone else, including the Heels.

With the return of seniors Singler and Smith, who combined to score 32 points in Duke's 61-59 championship game win over Butler, and the addition of guards Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry, Duke rules the ACC in both talent and experience. Add the sport's top coach to the equation, and that's an enviable combination.

The 2010-11 question for the re-jiggered ACC, with three new coaches, and minus five first-round draft picks, is who falls in line after Duke?

Not so fast, UNC. The addition of the top freshman prospect in the country (Harrison Barnes), is a start, as is freshman shooter Reggie Bullock. UNC's 5-11 disaster in league play was a product of poor outside shooting and a consistently indifferent effort on defense. The Heels still have issues, namely on defense, and with leadership, but they should be a better scoring team.

N.C. State, with its best recruiting haul in decades, is not quite there yet, either. The Wolfpack, 5-11 in the ACC, is capable of doubling its ACC win total and securing coach Sidney Lowe's future, but it will have to do so against a tough ACC schedule and with big expectations. The last time Lowe started a season with big expectations, it ended with nine straight losses.

No, Duke's top challenger, like in 2010, will come from outside this state. Virginia Tech returns all five starters, including the league's leading scorer in Malcolm Delaney, from a motivated team that won 10 ACC games but was left out of the NCAA tournament (again).

Florida State, with junior forward Chris Singleton, is poised for another solid season and has the overall talent to push Virginia Tech for second.

Maryland, Duke's top rival in last season, loses Greivis Vasquez, the ACC player of the year, and the guts from a 13-3 team. It still has coach Gary Williams, though, and a promising building block in sophomore forward Jordan Williams.

Miami will take a step forward and Georgia Tech will take a step back. Clemson, Boston College and Wake Forest each have new coaches and little hope of matching last year's success (in Clemson and Wake's case).

Oliver Purnell left Clemson for DePaul (ouch) and left Brad Brownell with only one Booker brother.

Poor, Steve Donahue. His predecessor at BC, Al Skinner, left him not one but two empty recruiting classes.

Jeff Bzdelik steps into a rebuilding project at Wake, where Dino Gaudio was fired despite winning 67 percent of his games in three seasons. Bzdelik, who won 10 conference games in three seasons in his previous stop at Colorado, has to replace four starters from a 20-win, NCAA team.

The good news for both Donahue and Bzdelik is they can establish a generous curve by which future teams will be graded. The bad news is they'll actually have to live through this season first.

Predicted order of finish:
1. Duke
2. Virginia Tech
3. Florida State
4. UNC
5. Maryland
6. N.C. State
7. Miami
8. Clemson
9. Georgia Tech
10. Virginia
11. Boston College
12. Wake Forest

I get that Carolina deserves some faith based on how good their program has been, but I don't see how you can immediately pencil them in a top 3 ACC finish. They lost Ginyard, Davis, the Wear Twins and Thompson and the only recruit of theirs who I feel has truly awesome potential next year is Barnes.

Freshman point guards face different expectations
Quote :
"

Mike Krzyzewski says Kyrie Irving will be "very, very good right away." Sidney Lowe says Ryan Harrow will have "his ups and downs."

The players are in similar situations: Two point guards, both freshmen, both top-rated recruits, both equally important to the success of their respective teams this winter.

The coaches, on the other hand, are not: Each is facing different kinds of pressure and each is taking a very different approach to the expectations their freshman point guards will face.

In their offseason gatherings with the media, Krzyzewski and Lowe both spoke at length about their incoming point guards, but while Lowe downplayed Harrow's potential to have an instant impact, Krzyzewski raved about Irving's chances to do the same.

Those differing perspectives speak volumes not necessarily about the personalities of the coaches, as one might imagine, or the relative talent of the players - Irving is the No. 2 recruit in the country according to Scout.com, while Harrow is No. 25 - but their peculiar and particular situations.

North Carolina also has a highly rated point guard coming in, but Kendall Marshall - No. 29 on the Scout.com list - will be competing for time with incumbent Larry Drew II. Irving and Harrow are clearly the top players at their positions. At Duke, Krzyzewski doesn't have the luxury of waiting for Irving to adjust. He has a team with almost all the pieces to win another national title. There's only one missing.

That's where Irving comes in. He's not going to be the kind of solid, error-free distributor Jon Scheyer was, and he isn't being asked to be that. He's being asked to be an attacker, a creator, and Duke needs him to be all of that immediately.

Krzyzewski wasted no time making that perfectly clear. Asked if he was concerned about having a freshman at point guard on a national-title contender, Krzyzewski responded with a flat-out "no."

"There's absolutely no question about that," Krzyzewski said. "He's that good a basketball player."

While Krzyzewski has no concerns about his a freshman point guard, Lowe, who was once a freshman point guard in the ACC, was willing to voice a few.

He spoke of a "learning curve" for his new arrivals while noting "very few guys come in and dominate as a freshman." That pointedly includes Harrow, and even though the coach must be giddy at the thought of having this kind of player at his own position for the first time in his tenure at N.C. State, he seems to be setting an artificially low bar for the guard.

"As a freshman coming into big-time basketball, it's a big adjustment, a huge adjustment," Lowe said. "We can look around our conference, we can look around the country at big-time guards, All-Americans, and they'll come in and struggle a little bit. I know he's going to have his ups and downs, but he'll get it though. He'll get it. "

The collective confidence shown by Harrow, Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie has been a refreshing breeze through a program that has all too often been far too stale lately - an issue, to be fair, that predates Lowe.

There's a balance to be struck here, because the youthful exuberance of the freshmen is going to be a tremendous asset for the Wolfpack if handled correctly, but the season could just as easily be lost quickly in a cloud of overconfidence. Counseling patience with Harrow, with whom Lowe clearly has a close relationship already, is one way to try to gently burst that bubble.

It has been a long time since hopes were this high both at Duke and N.C. State. Those hopes are similarly balanced upon the skinny shoulders of two freshman point guards, each hearing a very different refrain from his coach."

I'm going to breakdown each ACC team's roster, starting with Boston College. (Rivals/Scout)

Reggie Jackson - 3*/4* - #29 SG/#24 SG
Gabriel Moton - NR/NR
Biko Paris - 3*/2*
Danny Rubin - NR/NR
Corey Raji - 3*/3*
Joe Trapani - NR/2*
Nick Mosakowski - NR/NR
Peter Rehnquist - NR/NR
Dallas Elmore - 3*/3* - #28 SF/#32 SF
Josh Southern - 3*/4* - NR/#23 C
Cortney Dunn - 3*/2*

Looking at this roster I don't see how their new coach is going to have a successful season. They should be one of the teams near the bottom of the ACC.

Well they were hit hard by transfers/commits reneging. They'll probably have to bring in a pretty large class next year due to Skinner not bringing in anyone in the 2009 class, and the 2010 class having only one player (Rubin) who is a glorified practice player.

Top story on ESPN.com right now is pretty good. Anonymous poll of coaches about what's wrong with college basketball

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=oneil_dana&id=5398415

And there's a UNC diss

Quote :
""Here's what I think happens a lot -- a team loses a kid to someone else and all of a sudden that someone else is cheating. Every time North Carolina loses a kid, someone else is cheating. It's like there's so much arrogance with them; they can't believe someone would rather go somewhere else, so the other team has to be cheating.''"

http://dimemag.com/2010/07/ncaa-preview-top-10-for-2011/

Quote :
"10. NORTH CAROLINA STATE WOLF PACK
Conference: ACC
‘09-10 Record: 20-16 (5-11), NIT Second Round
Key Losses: Dennis Horner, Julius Mays (transfer), Josh Davis (transfer)
Key Additions: C.J. Leslie, Ryan Harrow, Lorenzo Brown

This is more optimism than objectivity on my part, but for what it’s worth, NC State did bring in one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. 6-9 forward C.J. Leslie is an athletic freak, and point guard Ryan Harrow was the biggest McDonald’s All-American snub in the senior class. Coach Sidney Lowe has been widely criticized during his tenure, but this incoming group could turn things around for him. "

I've read nothing positive about Seth Curry in any of the summer leagues. Irving is nasty and obviously Singler/Smith are elite, but I'm curious to see how much Scheyer and the seniors mattered.

Also, Kentucky is WAY overrated. No way they are a Top 5 team. Last years recruiting class was a lot better in terms of talent over every position than this one.

They also lost Dominique Sutton, and didn't bring in any recruits that will contribute immediately. I'm not saying they shouldn't be in the top 15 but #2 is ridiculous with Purdue, Michigan State, Villanova, Mizzou, etc still on the board
