Zombies can run and use tools now??
11/7/2010 10:16:58 PM
damn zombies with motor skills.1st turning door knobs, and now using rocks like tools. boo
11/7/2010 10:25:41 PM
yeah don't like the smart zombies, really don't like the cliched racist, like them getting into the mechanics of the zombie distinction stuff
11/7/2010 10:40:11 PM
mmm zombie suit.
11/7/2010 10:42:21 PM
zombie suit is a good idea, disgusting and rank but good idea nonetheless hahaand what's with them being able to turn knobs and use rocks and shit.. these advanced zombies, "zombies 2.0"?[Edited on November 7, 2010 at 10:45 PM. Reason : .]

yea if you pull a gun on the group, fuck you, you're done.and your brother too if he doesn't like it (looking at previews for next ep)
11/7/2010 11:00:19 PM
pretty badass episodei'm fine with the cliched racist, as long as he's done forpretty sweet axe-to-the-face kills
11/7/2010 11:08:22 PM
I find it hard to believe that they hadn't already broken out that fire axe and used it as a melee weapon.
11/7/2010 11:15:29 PM
^^i would bet anything that he isnt done for"if you introduce a gun in act one..." or something
11/7/2010 11:22:17 PM
^ yea, the hacksaw will come back into play, was talked about a bit and they made a point of showing the toolbox spilling.setting him up as a villain for the season i suppose
11/7/2010 11:31:59 PM
yeah.. you're right. looking at the previews, it looks like Evil Racist is not done yet. which is pretty lame.
11/7/2010 11:49:50 PM
available on hulu! Watching the premiere finally 'cause AMC didn't have a rerun that wasn't at 2AM
11/7/2010 11:59:20 PM
wow, a 2nd episode was just awesome. I too am wondering about these "smart" zombies, but it seems as though only a few of them out of the horde have motor skills, like the one zombie that was able to climb the fence. Well running zombies make for a much more deadly foe in my books and definitely got me off the edge of my seat. Zombie suit was a good idea, but damn, that part was graphic as hell. Very surprised they showed so much on cable tv.And boo to the racist too. Horrible character, you'd think shit like that would dissolve when shit hits the fan. Also, go asian kid! Driving the challenger like a pro... :p Kinda comical of him driving down the highway with the alarm still on.Not to be nit picking, but it does seem a little "convenient" for the sheriff to find a random group of survivors in the city looting for supplies to be part of the same group where his partner, wife and son is with... Specially after the 2nd episode.
11/8/2010 2:11:19 AM
2nd episode wasn't as good as the 1st - I just don't really like any of the characters at this point, other than the main guy. All the new characters introduced were forgettable, the racist dude was annoying, his partner is a bitch, and his wife is pathetic.I really like the look and feel of the show but I hope it gets better plot/character-wise (which I'm expecting it to, based on all the praise for the comics)
11/8/2010 8:28:29 AM
The crew emphasizes that George Romero's movies are a huge influence on the filming and he has pretty well established that zombies have limited learning abilities. Although I don't remember there being much tool use in the comic so I hope it's not an aspect that keeps resurfacing. The first two episodes have been outstanding! I'm very pleased so far.
11/8/2010 8:30:38 AM
Romero zombies definitely exhibit small amounts of intelligence (see: Day of the Dead). It seems to me that not too many of the zombies were actually using tools... there was only like one of them hitting the door with the rock. Only one of them climbed the fence too so perhaps there are different types of zombies that we haven't experienced yet? So far they have only been referred to as "walkers" so perhaps there are some faster ones and some smarter ones too, but they are just not as common?
11/8/2010 9:00:59 AM
I think it's important to consider that even those using tools/advanced motor skills aren't doing so with any real coordination or consciousness. If you give me a rock like the one the zombie had, I'm pretty sure that I could make short work of a plate glass door. Also, is anyone else thrilled about having some Sunday night television to look forward to? It's a pretty cool way to end the weekend.
11/8/2010 9:13:57 AM
Liked the episode...not quite as emotionally gripping as the first, but it still had its share of moments....as far as the zombie intelligence goes, I feel like this area is the same in all movies/shows with enthusiastic fan groups. You see a few films that establish a given world, character, etc, and assume that it's now a closed world that nothing can be changed in. While it was a little jarring to see a zombie with a rock in its hands using it to smash, or one turning a door knob, it adds an interesting twist (which is no more implausible than some of the crazy ass special zombies in things like left 4 dead and red dead redemption). So far (as has already been pointed out), the "intelligent" ones look to be more of a rarity than the standard, and the "intelligent" things they're doing have all been fairly basic (with the exception, possibly, of the ones that climbed the fence in the construction yard).Aside from that, I was just waiting for the moment that the teen driving the muscle car wide open on the freeway was going to eat it by crashing into something then suddenly get devoured.

Asian dude reminded me of Short Round from Temple of Doom. Just the way he looked with that hat on.
11/8/2010 11:42:03 AM
See, I've never really watched Sunday TV since way back when Simpsons was the thing to catch. Oddly enough, I've been watching Dexter but DVDs via Netflix instead of catching the episodes. I'm still in season four. I guess I meant more that I have a reason to stay up and watch TV.
11/8/2010 11:43:21 AM
Pretty good episode. Not as good as the first, but still very entertaining. The cliched racist character was unnecessary and lame. The writers copped out on that one.
11/8/2010 11:53:35 AM
i loved the asian dude (Glenn) tearing ass down the highway at the end and him loving every second of it. that would so be me haha. and did anyone else notice the car window that was smashed in was definitely not the same car that he was driving? not that big of a deal, just something i thought was cheesily done.
11/8/2010 11:56:42 AM
in all retrospect, the 2nd episode is so far beyond reality for the simple fact that the asian could drive... and driving a muscle car... lolI too agree with the new characters being "forgettable" except for the Asian. Why are they forcing a drama conflict when there's already a pretty serious conflict between humans and zombies... Also, I was expecting the sheriff to use the grenade to distract the zombies. Wanted to see some explosions.

^i agree. i'm glad there's more to the story than just omgzombiesareeatingpeopleRUN!!!
11/8/2010 1:40:51 PM
yeah, but the racist dude seems like a forced situation by the writers.
11/8/2010 2:34:49 PM
most definitely, I'm sort of hoping they subvert it with some detail that fleshes out his flat character (a la Woody Harrelson's character in Zombieland)[Edited on November 8, 2010 at 3:11 PM. Reason : .]
11/8/2010 3:11:13 PM
would be nice, but probably not gonna go that route. Woody's performance was priceless in Zombieland, but he was more geared towards funny serious, not stupid racist serious. Plus the tone of the two is completely different.I did like the cut scene of the black dude loosing the key down the small down pipe. Also, why was the tool box relocated? It was near the edge of the building early on when he first got cuffed to the pipes, but then showed later on, on the catwalk.

Second season is a go. A little premature if you ask me. /shrughttp://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/bleedthefreak/news/?a=25014
11/8/2010 7:39:25 PM
^I don't think it's that premature really. We are 1/3 of the way through the first season and it's AMCs most popular show, with no reason to think it will drop off.
11/8/2010 9:45:17 PM
I predict Rick will catch up with his wife and find out she was cheating before he even went to the hospital. They'll make Andrea out to be this great person throughout the whole series and he'll end up with her. Total guess though.
11/9/2010 1:53:43 PM
^^ Maybe not premature in a money making sense, which of course is all that matters. Labeling this a great show would be; once again not that it matters.
11/9/2010 1:56:24 PM
Running 2 for 2 on winning prizes @ the galaxy...hopefully I can get lucky enough to snag one of their memberships before the season is over.
11/9/2010 2:03:29 PM
When I saw the 'zombie disguise' i was all "Shaun of the Dead did it"otherwise, good episode
11/10/2010 1:24:56 PM
but I don't remember them going all "inspector gadget insane" mode and hacking a zombie up like that.
11/10/2010 1:31:31 PM
^^ remember it's based on a comic that introduced the idea well before shaun of the dead came out
