What kind of tricks did she learn?

We have sit, & come down pat, working on down with my hand up and not on the ground, and stay.

She can do sit, down, stay, stand, wait, come, touch, leave it, drop it, take it, get her favorite toy on command, climb up, and get down. Now we can move onto fun stuff like play dead

If you want to have some lulz with your dog. Sit them here:

Then go sit in the other one and start talking to them. Totally confuses them

Things I've learned about owning a golden so far;

-They are SO damn cute
-Smart as hell, she learned her name in a couple hours, sit in 30 mins, down in 1 day (down without hounding for treat lol)
-They like to talk, she will growl with a toy in her mouth, whine & grunt when she gets xcited to see us, bark for her breakfast, and then give an I'm not playing bark when startled.
-She LOVES us so much. Greets us both with vigor each morning, follows us around the house, sits between or legs, generally loves being around us.
-She LOVES to put shit in her mouth, ANYTHING really. When we first moved here she would come into the living room chomping on screws WHERE SHE FOUND THEM? we do not know
-Will wag her tail so hard it hits her sides.
-Is in tune with their owners. When I was under the weather she came into my room and laid at the foot of my bed most of the day.
-LOTS OF HAIR
-Is the perfect pup for me

the patent on frontline plus expired, and now walmart/sam's makes their own. it's called petarmor plus. same ingredients in the quantities. it's $28/3 months at walmart & $25/3 months at sam's, regardless of size of dog. i'm going to pick some up today & test it out.

Stupid dog. This morning she was acting super weird, barfing up bile and refusing to eat anything, even her favorite treats. Mother-in-law brought her to the vet, said he didn't feel obstructions, and to wait it out to see if it gets worse. Get a phone call this afternoon from mother-in-law; puppy pooped out a leaf then proceeded to eat her and the mother-in-law's dog's food

^^ HOW DARE YOU

in other news does anyone have suggestions for indestructible/super sturdy dog toys besides the kong extreme stuff?

i don't care if she chews it a little. like if it is an animal its fine if there is some wear and tear. but everything i've tried she has destroyed...as in ripped into teeny tiny little pieces...in <1hour.

the last one we tried was this...it is one of those tuff scale ones. rated a 7/10. i want to purchase the 10/10 one, but only if someone has experience with it haha. i want to know that it is more tough than the 7.

and i'm definitely open to other options! kong extreme is fine but...was hoping for some other kinds as well!!

I only ever buy Orca, Kong, and Nylabone. But Val has gotten to strong even for nylabone.

Orca and Kong are still to beastly for her so they get my vote. Don't ever buy fabric toys of any kind if you have a chewer.

yea. she had one of the orka ones that had the rope through it. that lasted about 30 seconds. now it is just an empty ball thing with no rope hahaha.

i saw some other neat things at phydeaux the other day...esp the ones that are like games/tasks i think she'd like because she LOVES bones. it is just annoying to always buy bones. i guess i need to start buying them in bulk or something at like costco. that and a kong are the only things that keep her occupied. but she has to have kong extreme. she chewed up 2 regular kongs.

i think she just likes a challenge but nothing is heavy duty enough to withstand her playing/challenge.

....wait a second...what kind of dog is this? If she has chewed thru a kong she is either a beast or I would recommend going a size up in the kong department.

uhhh a mutt? possibly hound/pointer/lab/pitt mix???? the vet said probably hound/pitt or pointer/pitt? could be some lab in there.

she only weighs 55 - 60lbs

she is muscular though

i bought the one for her size range but that is a good idea - trying a size up. i didn't think about that. durrrr. i was just like "WTF SHE DESTROYS EVERYTHING"

this is her:

going a size up in a kong extreme is prob an excellent idea!!!! i'd also like to get her some other kind of toy though. i wonder if there are any other food puzzle games she wouldn't destroy. like i said, phydeaux has tons of unique toys i've never seen before and they SAY "durable" or "indestructible" but i don't believe it haha. maybe i'll ask them the next time i'm in there for recommendations or see what they think?!

I dunno, it took me a while to find toys Val can't destroy. She destroys everything I give her. This includes nylabones, which are supposed to be destroyed slowly....Not so lucky there.

Look at those jowls.

I wouldn't put any real money or time into good games. Unless you take them away when you are done with the food part.

she's destroying a bone and farting right now because earlier tonight she ate an entire bowl of organic cat food. pea and chicken flavors. her farts smell like peas and NOT in a good way.

the thing is she destroys a bone of pretty normal size in like one day (or less). i don't get it. she is a money pit when it comes to chewing - i can't find anything good! but she needs an activity or then she will get bored and move onto things like my stuffed animals

luckily she won't chew furniture legs or anything like that. but she will fight with couch pillows and such. she's never chewed one but i've def found them on the floor when i've gotten home!!

Well then I'd def go with Orca (like the "tennis balls") Nothing with fuzz or anything like that either.

Even bones. Because if she eats them that fast then it isn't safe. She's ingesting a lot of air as she's scarfing those bones.

I thought I was so clever when I gave my dog a huge beef bone...she showed me by eating the entire thing in 3 minutes and barfing soon after.

The sound of the bone breaking was pretty cool though.

yikes!!!

well these are the rawhide bones i guess. but yea...she is definitely working hard on it. she can just pop the knobs off so easily now its like she has it down to a science. first she pops both knobs off. then she chews the long skinny part. then she unravels the knobs. and she carries them around in her mouth when they're all little and flattened and chews them like gum haha.

dogs are cray cray

thanks for the advice!!! i will try some more orka toys and i saw some other kong extreme things at phydeaux...like a kong extreme ball (i have the regular kong ball...she's done fine with that, maybe cause it is so dense) and a bone shaped type of rubber thing. i've just NEVER had a dog that chewed like this before.

Oh rawhide is even worse....It expands like pasta in a dogs stomach and if the dog eats to quickly...well speaking of down to a science...

Bella started shredding a regular Kong the day she got it so I took it back and got a Kong Extreme. No damage yet. She also has a Kong Black Flyer courtesy of Samwise's recommendation. Great toy, except when it gets stuck on the roof.

Gambit didn't have aggression issues over toys until that fucking Kong Flyer... but it wears him out so I guess we'll work on that :\

I'm pretty certain my dad's girlfriend's dog peed on Gambit. The smell is pretty serious.

Oh... and I don't know how to word this nicely at all. But has anyone with a male dog ever seen, um.... green/white gunk coming out of their you know what?? I noticed it when Gambit stretched out and was like AHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK and checked the next day - still there and I notice he keeps licking it (probably making it worse)

I don't know what to do! He pees like a girl so I'm wondering if he got some bacteria shoved up there.. I guess I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow (ew)

Does anyone else have pets obsessed with ice cubes? My dog likes to play with them. I'll give her one and she'll chase it around the floor until it's soft enough to eat.

My cats are obsessed with my ice water. They hear me pour it and suddenly they appear from nowhere. If I turn my back on the water for a nanosecond, regardless of where they are in the room, they're both on the table licking the ice cubes in the water. Really weird thing is I've tried putting ice cubes in their water and they have no interest

someone adopt this poor puppy.

per Craigslist

Quote :
"4 to 5 month old boxer lab mix. she tried to escape her kennel and was trapped around her waist and has a back leg injury. worm free 1st round of vaccinations complete.very playful despite her handicap. going to the vet for a follow up Monday morning then to the SPCA or the pound. "

I emailed to ask if they were getting rid of her just because she is injured, or some other reason.

Quote :
"My husband shouldn't have brought this puppy home. and it was an unfortunate accident. if we had the time and patience to train her we would keep her. "

people are so irresponsible.

my dog has about 4 hours until she gets relocated away from me if she doesn't change.

bitch destroys anything she can when she's left alone for a few hours or more. i don't have the time nor money for this shit and can't seem to break her of it. separation anxiety is the only thing i've come up with, but that's gotten me nowhere. any suggestions?

Do you have a crate? And does she have toys that are complex and interesting? We give Bella stuffed animals for her to destroy and she is usually content with that.

how about a cage?

and i walked out of the house on my way to work and saw the coop door open and 14 chickens roaming about the backyard, so i got to herd chickens before i could go to work.

tried in and out of the cage.

tried toys, bones, food

today she destroyed the plastic tray in her cage, so now I have nowhere to put her (not going on the carpet cause she'll likely claw the shit out of it).
