Question, I'm in Philly and scheduled to come back to Raleigh tomorrow at 730 pm by plane, should I reschedule my flight to return tomorrow afternoon instead? You know... Because of the weather..

^ Well unfortunately the earlier you leave there the snowier it is here and the later you leave there the more snowy it is there. Not sure when the best time for you will be?

Bout 1.5" in Greenville, SC w/ slushy rds.

Word on the street is that the mid-levels are still warm over your area and it's messing up the show.

k, being that i'm in the alleged 6-10" zone, & my neighborhood has no where to play in snow... should i:

1. go out to my parents' house (12 mi into the country) tonight. roads would be safer, stay the night out there, play in the snow tomorrow.

2. stay at home tonight. try to go buy the keyboard for rock band 3 that i got for xmas, so i can play that while not in the snow, then try to drive out to my parents' house.

what say you?

Still no snow here in Cary near Crossroads and looking at radar it appears a dry slot is forming in the precip headed over this area and raleigh so looks like we may miss out on any for round one here until the low starts sending more in early tomorrow

We decided to go ahead tonight. Good thing we did. The snow is starting to stick to the road already & there's only a dusting on the grass right now. When we left our house it was only wet w/ small flakes. Out here there are big flakes, LOTS of them, & the ground is white

1-2 inches in durham and falling heavy, minor slush only on parts of the road, backing up what i thought about street accumulation.

snow fall thinned out as we drove from durham to raleigh, till there aint shit here.

oh yeah i don't doubt that it will snow here. i just doubt, heavily, that it will pile up on the streets as much as it will EVERYWHERE ELSE....

i would think 1/2 the total amount will be the depth on the streets, brined and also sorta warmed...

Should be cranking up out there soon. Sadly I'm missing out on it. Should the drive home be ok y'all think? I'll be coming up 85 from south of Charlotte.

Just drove home from a friend's house (back to my parents') in south Charlotte. Almost 2 inches on the grass right now, and the streets vary from none to 1 1/2 inches. Not very slippery at this point though.

Ok. Most of you are from the south, and know what snow cream is. I find the 'yankees' most often do not.

Mix together:

1 can evaporated milk
3/4-1 cup sugar
about a teaspoon of vanilla flavoring.

Mix his together.

Then go out and fill your largest pot full of snow. Mix the milk solution into the pot until there is no 'white snow' left. Eat and enjoy. If you have never had his, you are really missing out. Its why I look forward to snow.

Woke up to between 6 & 8 inches already, and it is snowing at the rate of almost 2"/hour. We could be approaching a foot here this evening. Will post pics soon!

Years of inaccurate horrible weather prediction by local news in the area made me unprepared for the shear volume of snow that is now sitting outside my window.

Just drove my fiancee to work this morning, and a normally 25 minute commute turned into a 1.5 hour journey. Only took me an hour to get back, and I just measured the accumulation here - 6.75 inches in JoCo, right near 42/50. Drive slow, stay safe.

So...on to the next storm. Since winter started so early here will in fizzle out on 2011 or keep on chugging into the new year?

Where is "here"?

Snow's about done in Charlotte. 2 inches on the ground and 3 1/2 or so on my parents deck. Nothing on the roads though. It's cake driving around down here.

I'm so disappointed in you, tww. Flights starting after 12 today are canceled, and most flights from Philly to rdu tomorrow are also canceled.
If you had told me to leave earlier today instead of this evening then I'd be home already, instead of being stuck here where people also gocrazy during snowstorms.

Beach road

The wind is blowing hard enough that my footprints were gone when I cam back over the access

Here are some pics I took from where I live now in Southern Pines, NC. We ended up with 6.2 inches!

My forecast in the end was pretty solid with a few exceptions. It was all about the deformation band as the coastal low wrapped up and bombed off the coast. My main error was in the western Piedmont as a northern stream impulse gave them an extra boost on Christmas itself ahead of the main system. I also didn't bring heaviest amounts far enough east. Note I did have locally higher amounts in the wording for points north and east of Raleigh.

Map comparison:
