Lincoln was its own movie.
Apparently when it came out and I heard people posting things like "Lincoln was an awesome movie" I just thought they were talking about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I did think it was weird that so many of my friends were talking up that movie, but whatever.
This kind of thing has been a somewhat recurring issue because I don't really watch or care about many new movies. Though it has gotten slightly better since we got cable and I see an occasional commercial now. 3/26/2013 10:54:37 PM

My wife just taught me a couple of months ago that frowning is a facial expression made with the eyebrows. I always thought frowning was when you pointed the corners of your lips down aka "an upside down smile". I argued with her about it until I finally Googled it and Wikipedia confirmed it. ![](images/frown.gif) 3/27/2013 10:53:38 PM

In North America a frown is exactly what you just described.
Tell your wife to "turn that frown upside down" with her eyebrows. 3/27/2013 11:16:49 PM

It's a cultural thing. Some people think a frown and a scowl are the same thing.
But this is America and only a scowl involves the brows. 3/27/2013 11:32:37 PM

Yep. If you asked me what a frown was, I'd say that it means turning your mouth downward (ie, turn that frown upside down). I'd also say that no one actually expresses displeasure by turning their mouth downward.

First, your wife is wrong, but don't argue, just nod your head up and down with a sneering facial expression and agree that she is right. Second, didn't college ever teach you that sourcing from the web or wikipedia is not accepted as a reasonable source... I would argue that point to your wife if you skipped step one above.
If this was my argument, I would do an independent survey of 100 people backed by other empirical evidence with an 11 page research paper that truly defines what a frown is suppose to be, backed by University Human Studies, Physiology and Psychology professors that add to the paper. While, I'm at it, I mind as well try to apply for a US government research grant to track the progression and causes of frowns on US citizens as well as any association related to the well-being and cost of living in various regions over a period of years at the cost of $1.5 million...

I agree with this statement, the wikihow shows a scowl and not a frown. You don't need to be angry to express a frown, just a level of disappointment, displeasure or sadness. One can include eye expression, but isn't necessary.
Quote : | "1. Observe something that makes you angry" |
I think women can just skip step 1 and just go straight into step 2...

Quote : | "What pawning really means. " |
Quote : | "So, for example, I take my AR to a guy, he deems it's worth $1100 dollars retail. This means he'll buy it at maybe $600-700. So, I can get a loan typically up to around that amount. We write up a contract and have, say, 30 days to pay back the money and I get my rifle back. If I default on the loan, it's his and he puts it up for general sale." |
I know this is an old post, but there's more to this story. The loan isn't interest free; so you can't just pay back the money and get the rifle back in that situation. Sure, you can get a loan up to that amount, but it's probably going to be at 200%+ interest. The incentive is to take the lowest amount you need because you're probably going to have to pay back an exorbitant sum to get your property back. Interest on a big loan is going to be higher than interest on a small loan. That frequently leads to pawn shops buying things for far less than the already low price they offer people for their goods.
The pawn shop wins any time you deal with them no matter which scenario plays out. You pay a huge amount of interest for a 30 day loan; they win. You pawn a $1100 gun for $600 and don't pay back the loan; they sell it and they win. You sell them the gun outright for $700; they sell it and they win. Another situation where the only way to "win" is to not play the game in the first place.
This is second hand information from a friend who supposedly had to rescue a family heirloom from a pawn shop at 250% interest because a relative of his pawned a ~$1500 item for the $250 he "needed" and couldn't pay back the loan + interest at the end of the month. Forgive me if any of this info was exaggerated or otherwise misconstrued before being passed onto me.

If you can flail, you can swim. You aren't drowning. But you are in distress. The flailers are dangerous, because they will do anything to stay afloat, including grabbing your shoulders and pulling you under. Never let them touch you. Its even better to never let them touch the floatation device. Usually you can coax them keeping it out of reach into swimming to safety.
When you drown, you can't do shit, you're basically exhausted.
Now, in adults the distress period may last longer due to endurance/experience. But you aren't drowning. Not to be pedantic about semantics or anything, but there's a difference. 6/7/2013 9:06:30 PM

i actually have this video of this dude that was drowned because his girlfriend paniced and pulled him under.
for most of the video he is screaming and splashing around; gf nowhere to be seen and hes just slowly dragged beneath the surface. Obviously she clung to him and weighed him down and he could never get her off
its really sad to watch how it happens, like i said drownings are one of the scariest and most unfortunate things on earth IMO i cant even imagine psychologically not being able to resolve your situation

Panicking people are so freaking dangerous. I've even been told for the flailers that try to cling, it is perfectly acceptable to punch that mother fucker in the face, if they grab you. The sheer wtf factor can calm them quickly and let you get free. And if you knock their ass out, they're an easy rescue (this is like last ditch watching out for your own safety level shit) 6/7/2013 9:55:09 PM

Nah, I wouldn't call it true if someone mentioned it to me either.... But if they're on you, punching them once usually will stun someone to enable you to get away and start over. The likely hood of being in this situation is so slim... Its not like oh they are drowning, imma pop this bitch and make it easy. This is both lives are in danger.
