Laura wasn't from Kinston - Michigan originally - only brought to Kinston by Grant. when Grant got married, he hired a slick lawyer and took the kids from Laura claiming she was an 'unfit parent' since she didn't have a job or a house (she was living with Grant's mother at the time).

i know there is more to the story, but Laura loved her little boys and had been working extremely hard for the last year to get custody back. she's started her own company and co-founded another one, had her own nice place in Kinston, and was getting involved at Grace Fellowship church in Kinston. She attended Bible study regularly and brought her boys to church since she had them on the weekends.

the custody case was leaning in her favor due to some recent developments, and in my opinion Grant (due to anger and pride) decided he'd do anything to keep Laura from getting full custody.

just my .02 since i knew Laura and her struggles, but never thought it would have ended like this...my only comfort is that i firmly believe Laura is in heaven and that she will be reunited with her children someday

his new wife, suffering from post-partum depression, gets in to heated argument with laura when she comes to pick up the boys. Grant played at my wedding 3 years ago. People can change a lot in 3 years, but to be honest with you by the time our wedding rolled around I was fed up with Grant. I would have had an alternate play (Russ Thompson) at our reception but it was too late, things were already set in motion. Looking back on it I wished we would have had some one else. Even though Grant did an awesome job and we got a lot of compliments that night on his performance, I can never change the fact that I danced my first dance with my wife to a song that was performed by a murderer. And regarding his music, people's taste in music is simply an opinion, like wine or cheese. To down someone for liking a particular style of music or musician is retarded. To each his own.

Oh and I wanted to add this. I was never close to Grant, but my wife and Laura had become close. Jennifer used to baby sit little Grant some nights when Laura wanted to go with Grant to his performance for the night. Laura was one of Jennifer's only friends who had a kid so they shared something in common. I put up with Grant so Jennifer and Laura could hang out. But I did enjoy his music and he was a talented artist. Just a selfish bastard who never deserved to have a woman like Laura in the first place.
