^^^The court of law and the court of public opinion are two completely different things. If he's brought to trial because of this, obviously beating a "child" is beating a "child", no matter what. Does it make him a shittier person than someone who had a 16 year old athlete that probably lives a bit rougher life anyway? You say no and that's your opinion. Personally, it would still be detestable and illegal if it was a 16 year old tight end for his high school team, but it wouldn't be quite as bothersome.

Would it make you feel better if I said I thought it was worse because he was hitting a woman? I think that makes it appear a bit worse. Again... you're assuming that I think he has some sort of extra accountability for his actions because of her disability. I just think the situation looks worse. Any more assumptions?

....that's another thing. Seems to me that spanking is good for your child before the ages where they can critically think and reason. Just seems like at the age of 16 (a) you're 'just too old for that and (b) there are more effective ways to do that.

To be fair, people have been mentioning these "effective ways" throughout the last page, but it keeps getting buried in people arguing against points that were never made. Just take the computer away if you don't believe they are good for your household (...in the year 2004... whatever).

Haven't read the thread but I wanted to throw this out there...

There's a difference between corporal punishment to detour a behavior and beating the crap out of a child because you are pissed off and disappointed.

I.E. Associating stealing Mommy's pills with a quick butt slap can be very productive in corrective negative behaviors. Where as beating a child with a belt repetitively because they did something you disapprove of may foster emotional dysfunction and breed contempt.

Eh, just watched this. When I opened the video I was expecting him to like be punching her or something. That wasn't much of a beating; that's called a spanking in a lot of places. If you've never been on the receiving end of something like that it might look terrible. But getting spanked by a belt doesn't really do a lot. If she wanted something to cry about she shoulda come to my house and let my mom cut a switch for her

I wasn't a fan of how they verbally berated her though. Tell her why she's being punished, deal out the spanking, and then let her think about it.
