Very interesting. I might check that out in a year when my contract is up.

i didn't know you were able to add lines to a republic account
i'm in wave M, so i SHOULD see the ability to purchase a phone and start service sometime next month (early december at the latest is my guess)...neither my wife nor i are out of contract with verizon, so i'll probably hand it off to my dad since he's in the market for his first smartphone 10/16/2012 3:00:38 PM

Republic is coming out with a dual band phone in a few months that will greatly increase the traditional cell phone coverage when out of WiFi areas. 10/17/2012 12:27:17 AM

i think "greatly" might be a stretch...improve? definitely
i think republic uses sprint's network when it's not on wifi
800mhz (what is lacking on republic's current motorola defy xt) has better building penetration, but the unobstructed "outdoor" strength in cities is about the same due to the density of towers in the area
since the vast majority of republic users are city folk who have adequate 1900mhz coverage, the lack of 800mhz service doesn't matter very much...until you get into rural areas where towers are fewer and farther in between and the greater coverage of 800mhz starts to play a role
all that said, and with the knowledge dropped tech talk's republic wireless thread...i will mostly likely ignore my wave invitation and wait for republic to go public and with the dual-band defy XT which, if rumors are to be believed, should be around/before christmas, anyway 10/17/2012 9:13:27 AM

It does. I've been wondering if it is limited to Sprint's network or if Sprint's contract to roam on Verizon towers carries over to Republic Wireless. 10/17/2012 2:34:50 PM

You can keep your current voice plan and just replace the $29.99 unlimited data with the $30 2GB tiered add-on. Only thing is that if you were getting an employee discount on the unlimited data, it won't carry over to the 2GB plan. 12/18/2012 11:33:41 AM

It's not a fucking penny. They quoted me my new price: $91. I currently pay 68 with my discount, as I understand I lose the discount. 12/18/2012 6:46:23 PM

What voice plan do you have now and what is your data discount? Whoever you talked to is full of it if they said you HAVE to switch to Share Everything. The only thing that can't carry over is unlimited data if it's on the line getting the subsidized upgrade. There are per-line tiered data packages that can be added in place of an unlimited data plan (2GB for $30, 5GB for $50 and 10GB for $80). It'll still be more than a penny though if you're currently getting a discount on your data package since that doesn't apply to the 2GB plan but shouldn't be the $20+ that it'd require if you switched to share everything. 12/18/2012 8:55:11 PM

Not sure what I should do with Verizon. Me and my girlfriend both have Droid Razr (not maxx or M) and the same data plan (but separate). She has perfect 4G service and always has coverage, but in the same location I won't have a data or cell signal at all, but hers is perfect. How do i approach Verizon about this? 1/2/2013 1:47:14 AM

^^^ the phone comes with a one year warranty, however they might recommend you try a new sim card before they replace the device. At any rate, I would call customer service *611 from a verizon phone or 1-800-922-0204 from a landline and I think it's option 3 for technical support. Also, make sure your software is updated.
^ it'll be about $100/month plus tax for unlimited talk and text and 2 GB of data. 1/2/2013 12:37:17 PM

PLUS the cost of the phone
spend $260 (cost of phone plus $10 startup) and then $19/month for republic...or $150-175 for a phone and then $45/month with straight talk
i cannot wait to drop verizon...great network and great customer service (in my experience)...but it's an absolutely shitastic value 1/2/2013 1:55:43 PM

Looks like Verizon is determined to offload some of their customers. Any existing NE2 credits will expire on 4/15 and the usual upgrade date at 20 months is being changed to match the full 2 years. Now let's see how long it takes them to change those still on unlimited to tiered.

unlimited will be gone altogether before the year is out, mark my words
they discontinued unlimited in june of 2011 and so (theoretically) the last 2-year contracts with unlimited will expire around the same time this year...they'll give it a couple of extra months, but i wouldn't be surprised if it goes away in Q3 4/12/2013 10:57:34 AM

I'm guessing they'll wait til middle of next year or so. I upgraded to the GSIII last July and kept unlimited so my contract doesn't expire until July 2014. Granted there's nothing stopping them from just putting everyone still under contract with unlimited plans on the 2GB tiered as it'd cost the same and people couldn't use the material adverse effect clause to cancel without an ETF. ] 4/12/2013 11:12:32 AM

welp, guess I'll be trying to use this:

If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change. Even that wouldn't really be an out since 2GB is pretty much the same cost as unlimited. They'd just tell you to use wifi or find some way you were misusing the service. 4/12/2013 11:19:51 AM

I'll be done with my contract on May 16th. Cool, the S4 is coming out; We'll get those. And you're not only taking my unlimited data away but its gonna be a 30 dollar fee to upgrade and the standard 350 if I break my contract. So, the only remaining incentive to stay with this company would be the people we talk to that also have Verizon.
