"Okay, great. So, as a fan, you're wondering what the hell was happening on the ice when the Rangers' best offensive player only played three minutes in the third when they were down a goal. Tortorella tells the media to fuck off, so you'll never know. Still don't care what happens in the presser?"

^ Exactly. Do you think the coaches want to give quick little interviews during the game while on the bench? No. But the fans enjoy it, it's good for the broadcast, and they're doing their part in helping the game/league grow. Same goes for post-game pressers. A lot of coaches probably don't like them, but they participate because of the reasons listed above. Tortorella is disrespecting the league, fans, media, other coaches, and is pretty much acting like he is above everyone else.

Being a dick like that ain't gonna win hockey games.

It's a tireless act. Give it up.

^^Being nice to the media and not letting your frustration be seen doesn't win you games or get your team inspired either.

Why does he have to explain it in that moment when emotions are still riding high from the game? Why couldn't he just release a statement late on?

Except he's clearly letting his frustration be seen, because he's not nearly as bad when they win.

And you know what else doesn't win games? Benching your leading scorer when you're down a goal at home. I agree that Torts doesn't owe the media Mo-esque sound bytes after tough losses, but he also doesn't have to spit in their faces. Would you expect him to stand quietly and smile if Stan Fischler called him an idiot for holding Gaborik out? Of course not. So why is it okay for Torts to do that to a reporter?

Today was the first time all post-season I've gotten to watch the full game start to finish, and damn was it a good one.

What sucks is that the only part of the NHL playoffs that is really getting any coverage is the fact that Tortorella is a dick.

No one seems to care about anything else.

Props to Torts for giving a legitimate post-game presser.

(except for saying that Rupp's punch on Brodeur was legal...if I heard him right)

The Rangers came out playing like absolute crap at home. The first period killed us. Need 2 in a row now...maybe the Giants can shed some playoff charisma?

That first period was horrendous. at first the rangers looked promising with all the hitting and their speed but once that first goal was scored that was like it. I really want them to win the next two but I think the devils have them figured out. Sure isn't gonna be easy.

The Devils have a nasty habit of coming out strong and then falling asleep if they manage to get a sizable lead. It's also a lot harder to close out a series than to come back because when you play from behind, you play with more desperation. I think the stat is something like 80% for game five winners go on to win the series, but the Devils overcame such a deficit in the first round and the Rangers will be a hell of a lot more formidable in a game 7 at MSG.

Three rounds in a row people have tried to spout that shit. At what point do you stop lucking into wins in seven game series?

I really love that Rangers fans maintain a feeling of superiority over Devils fans, despite the fact that the Rangers haven't won a goddamn thing since '94 and the Devils have three Cups.

I didn't say the Devils got lucky...they are a good enough team to be where they are. But Rangers imploded in Game 5. This isn't like LA who kicked it into high gear and are riding the momentum at the right time.

This is all my dad's fault. In 1994 he made a bargain with G-d...he said he didn't care if the Rangers ever won again if they could just win that year. They did, and since then they haven't. The loss was inevitable.

Orthodox Jews don't write the name of God. Not sure if that's this fella's reason, but that's a thing.

I'm not Orthodox...I just respect the name. You don't write it out because then something can happen to it (like get removed or deleted)

The big question in the finals is whether or not Martin Br-deur will be able to stop the scoring prowess of Dustin Br-wn and Anze K-pitar.

That Kopitar goal was SIIICCCCKKKKKKKK.

Too bad it was the result of five sleeping Devils, though.

It would appear that Tim Thomas is "taking a break" from hockey because he believes the world is going to end shortly due to global economic collapse and he wants to spend the remaining time with his family.

If NBC doesn't switch game 4 over from NBCSN it will be a travesty for hockey not to show the winning of the Cup on network television.

NBC already confirmed it's on cable. Fucking stupid. Why was this not addressed with the new tv deal last offseason? Every game of the Final should be on network tv.
