Some of you seem to have this conception of bigotry only involving vehement disagreement or dislike. But it's not. As any dictionary definition would indicate, implicitly or explicitly, bigotry is a view that is unfair, unjust, prejudicial, racist, or the like.

Hating someone for something they cannot change fits with this. Hating someone who hates someone for something they cannot change is not bigotry per se, no matter how much you want to call people who are against your views bigots. It's the same with intolerance.

I was in a little bit of an odd place when it came to this controversy.

I really like the show, I didn't think what Phil said was that big of a deal, and I thought A&E had every right to suspend him obviously but getting rid of him would have been an overreation.

If Louisiana is actually still arresting homosexuals, I'd say it's bullshit. But you'll quickly find that none of those arrests stick. Thus, it's not illegal.

And it's not ridiculous to point out when people are using words incorrectly. Their doing so distorts the issue and makes an emotional appeal where it is not needed or fit. There's a world of difference between "not recognized by the state" and "thrown in jail for it". Intentional improper use of the word "illegal" is meant to draw on that difference. So, no, if someone can't use a word correctly, I'll call him out on it, just like disco_stu trying to pretend his definition of bigotry was the one that mattered.
