Trade Donaldson for what?
We still have a solid 1-2-3 with Kazmir, Gray, Smarjda and likely will see Parker and/or Griffin, so there's no need for any more pitchers... 10/1/2014 2:46:10 PM |

the media just love beane because of his unpredictable wheeling & dealing. both of those guys are probably at their peak value now, so they think he will sell high to try and start rebuilding.
Still can't believe the A's season ended like this, but it is poetic how that WC game almost perfectly represented the A's season. I am pulling either Pirates, Orioles or Royals as WS champs now.

The curse of Cespedes starts. Never forget La Potencia Mr. Beane. 10/1/2014 10:11:10 PM |

Pfft there are at least a half a dozen other curses to worry about other than Cespy at this point. I'm oddly stoic about this season's collapse though. It took me a few days to get over the depression of the past two seasons, but I saw it coming weeks ago and I feel totally fine today. We will probably suck next year, but who knows. 10/2/2014 2:33:40 PM |

Not too excited about Butler but if he hits 275 he will be a star compared to most of our hitters. 11/19/2014 9:19:01 PM |

Needed a right handed hitter against lefties. Overpaid though.

Bad offseason for the A's so far. Lawrie is garbage...dont understand that trade. Why not go for all prospects with another team. Its not like there is much cost savings over the next 2 years... I think its like 6mm total 11/28/2014 11:01:04 PM |

Must have felt JD was already at peak value and set to fall. Didn't we draft lawrie originally? Beans seems to see something more than meets the eye with him 11/29/2014 12:28:37 PM |

Drafted by Milwaukee.. He's definitely not as good as Donaldson, but he's a solid player. Above average defender (obviously Donaldson is great) but only half a season last year he hit about the same avg and 12 HRs.. And he's only 24. Definitely don't think the Jays got one over on anybody, and if that 18 year old SS keeps getting better it might have been a great deal 11/29/2014 2:11:50 PM |

Im saying the guy cant say healthy and some scouts are thinking that his injuries are starting to affect his footwork and stride in the box. I forgot where i was reading this, but one dude thought he'd have to be moved to the OF 11/29/2014 2:39:49 PM |

Jesus christ, another turd sandwich of a deal. That was the best they could get for Moss? Not saying he is a superstar but the "prospect" they received projects as a marginal MLB end of the bench guy or a career minor league player....and already is 24
Rough offseason continues... I know it was going to be a fire sale but the returns so far have been terrible 12/8/2014 2:20:19 PM |

At first glance this deal sounds like it sucks. I was expecting there to be another minor leaguer or two but all we got was one minor leaguer who is already old. 12/8/2014 9:11:20 PM |

It's really difficult not to pile on the A's offseason so far. Another not stellar return

I am a fan of the GM's process as much as I am a fan of the game. I'm not trying to troll you guys, I just don't get the moves. Why pay a guy like Billy Butler and dump many of the other players that would help you win now for garbage? I understand the desire to cash in and to save money, but damn simien, lawrie, and a handful of questionable minor league players for moss, donaldson, and samardzija.
The A's will overachieve if the young arms come back healthy, but damn that lineup is going to be terrible 12/9/2014 6:39:22 PM |

welcome to life as an A's fan. for whatever reason, we dont get things like this - and eventually things end up OK, even better than expected the past few years. Here's to another upcoming year of making something out of seemingly nothing!
Nico from AN's take is usually pretty fair, even more critical of A's moves more often than not: http://www.athleticsnation.com/2014/12/9/7363267/nicos-measured-take-on-the-3-recent-trades
My take is that we've got 2 SPs coming back from being out all year last year, so I get the Shark trade for the key PIF depth. Shark really wasn't very good against AL competition anyways - even if he had a few CGs against weaker lineups. Moss trade definitely wtf. Donaldson trade still kinda like wtf. 12/10/2014 7:07:18 PM |
