Our schedule will still be filled with some better offenses.
Good offenses: South Carolina FSU Louisville Syracuse
Talented teams breaking in new QBs that will still be good on offense: Clemson UNC ND
Clemson, UNC, and ND all have loads of talent and by the time we play them their starting QBs will have at least 6 games to get it going. UNC replaces the most but that offense is designed to put up points and they have enough talent at the skill positions that even an average QB will put up good numbers(see: M. Williams). 5/11/2017 4:54:49 PM |

Not even going over the Williams/Trubisky deal, Fedora played that brilliantly but it burned him because Trubisky he had a big year and got drafted early. It's like saying TJ Warren was the 6th best player on our team because he didn't start as a true Freshman. 5/11/2017 9:05:22 PM |

You didn't forget... we got beat like we owed UL money. That was probably the most thorough demolition I've seen us take ever. I think he may have been giving us a pass as that also seemed to be one of jacksons best games of the season.

i mean, yeah, we got demolished by UL. we played awful. but i'd put more of it on the offense than anything. not that it matters. we go down 7-0, then our first offensive play of the game was an INT and UL takes over inside the 30, D turns around and holds them to a FG. then we go 3 and out. D forces a fumble, then we go 3 and out again and give up a TD on the next drive. the D definitely was not good. but the offense did them no favors that game by keeping them on the field for so much of the 1st half. we had 3 turnovers in the 1st half and never had a chance in that game. the D was not good that game, but it wasn't as terrible as the score would indicate. i'm not gonna hold it against our D that the Heisman QB and a prolific O torched us last year.
on the other hand, it is inexcusable that we played as bad as we did vs a terrible ECU team.
our D was still very very good last year and should be really good this year too.

Quote : | "The run defense, even on Lamar Jackson, was actually pretty solid. The Cards came in averaging over 7.25 yards per rush, over two more per carry than any team in the ACC and the most in the nation, but they were held to a paltry 3.7 yards per carry against the Pack. The season-low 163 yards State allowed on the ground were 109 fewer than the least allowed to Louisville previously this year. (That alone boggles the mind.) The Cards previous low on a per-carry basis was five yards per tote against Clemson before being held to a new season-low 3.7 against the Pack. State managed to sack the elusive Jackson three times, a truly exceptional feat, and totaled six tackles for a loss." |

Yeah his HS stats always seemed like he was more of a runner than a passer, but just assumed he had garbage to work with at WR.
Also sounds like staff is his on McKay so Parham making a position change was likely the only way he'd see the field. Hopefully Marcus Stone 2.0. 5/24/2017 8:06:57 AM |

if you just think about which games we'll be favored in...SC, Furman, Marshall, @Wake, Cuse, @BC, UNC...that puts us at 7 wins there and i'd think there's a chance we're favored @pitt. obviously being favored =/= a win necessarily, but if you're making an educated bet/guess on how many games we'll win it's a good place to start. 5/24/2017 9:15:11 AM |

I'm surprised they have Hines listed as an all-purpose back since he's kind of making that transition this year from mainly WR the last 2 years. I actually expected him to be ranked higher at KR than RB.
Glad Tony Adams is getting his recognition, that dude has been so consistent and good on our OL for years. I think you could put BJ Hill higher than 4th team too, but man, the DL talent in the ACC is absolutely ridiculous. Chubb finally getting some preseason recognition, hopefully he still plays with a chip on his shoulder. You could tell last year he felt slighted by not being All-ACC.
Love that Samuels and Hines are just "All Purpose Backs", should be fun to watch all the ways we use them this year. Samuels should just be listed as "badass on offense." 5/25/2017 10:19:53 AM |

Quote : | "27. NC State
It’s easy to overlook NC State in a division that features Louisville, Florida State and Clemson – two national championship contenders for 2017. However, the Wolfpack could nudge their way into the top 25 this year. Coach Dave Doeren was on the hot seat after a 4-5 start last fall, but NC State finished strong with three wins in its final four games. While the final ledger showed six losses, NC State lost by seven points to eventual CFB Playoff champ Clemson, fell to Florida State by just four and lost two other games by a combined 10 points.
The offense is led by junior quarterback Ryan Finley, who posted a solid debut in 2016 after transferring in from Boise State. All-purpose threat Jaylen Samuels is one of college football’s best all-around talents and playmakers. He should be utilized even more in 2017. Replacing running back Matt Dayes is the biggest concern for Doeren’s offense. Junior (and converted receiver) Nyheim Hines is the front-runner for carries but Reggie Gallaspy and Dakwa Nichols are in the mix as well.
The line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball is a strength for Doeren’s team. Anchored by standout guard Tony Adams, four starters return for one of the ACC’s top lines. On defense, end Bradley Chubb is back to wreak havoc at the line of scrimmage after registering 10.5 sacks in 2016. The tandem of Justin Jones and B.J. Hill is an underrated duo on the interior. Both starters – Jerod Fernandez and Airius Moore – are back at linebacker, while the secondary is the biggest area of need with three vacancies in the starting lineup.
NC State is clearly a better team than it was last year, but it won’t get any breaks on the schedule. Notre Dame and South Carolina are on tap in non-conference play, and of course, the Wolfpack have to face three top 25 teams from their own division. " |

will be interesting to see how this plays out. i disagree that Hines is the "front-runner for carries". i know he's now listed at RB and will definitely get more carries than in the past. but as far as an every down back, i think gallaspy is gonna be the closest thing we have to that. nobody will get the number of carries Dayes had, Hines is versatile enough to play in the backfield and slot, obviously...but as far as a traditional RB, i think gallaspy is gonna be that guy. and of course, JaySam is gonna get his share of carries as well. our backfield will be good this year, just a different dynamic than in the past where Dayes was the guy.
it does seem like Hines is gearing up for a bigger role in the backfield...that's for sure. it'll be interesting how it all plays out. and i realize i'm quibbling over a pretty same part of that write-up.

^^Hines started playing more RB last year and based on what Doeren and Hines have said, I think he'll be our starting RB. He was a 4* RB out of HS after all. I imagine he'll be a little like Montgomery for the Packers and David Johnson for the Cardinals. He'll get motioned out a lot, run a lot of tosses/sweeps, and take a few normal hand-offs on draws just to keep the D guessing.
It's going to be about touches more than carries for Hines as I see Hines and Samuels having a very high usage rate if they can stay healthy. Going to benefit Finley a ton with the short passing game we'll utilize with so many mismatches using Hines and Samuels.
I think Gallaspy will get a solid number of carries, but with our recent RB recruiting we really seem to want to go with more of an all-purpose back(Collins last year, Pennix and Person this year), so could just be a shift in our scheme. 6/15/2017 10:40:21 AM |

Yup. Dayes was a beast but I think this backfield will be more dynamic. Not sure any of them can replace Dayes' rushing numbers, but I'm not sure we'll have to with the versatility and depth. Hell, Dakwa Nichols has shown flashes in his limited time. Don't think we'll need him much, but if he's our 3rd or 4th option back there, we could do a lot worse than him. 6/15/2017 6:38:11 PM |
