Just in case we weren't finished with the MVP discussion:

Quote :
"James Harden is averaging 30.6 points per game this season and the Rockets have 64 wins with two games to go. Only three players in NBA history averaged 30 points per game on a 65-win team, and they each won MVP that season: Stephen Curry (2015-16), Michael Jordan (1991-92 and 1995-96) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1970-71)."

Although I do think Lebron should be given heavier consideration.

What the fuck are you on about now? I was the most pro Harden poster here. I thought he deserved it last year and I think he definitely deserves it this year.

I was arguing the whole time that Russ only won last year bc he had pretty, clean numbers.

[Edited on April 9, 2018 at 8:51 PM. Reason : If you want to call my argument dumb, at least get it right ]

Since you brought up wins though, from last year:
Quote :
"Oklahoma City is on pace to win under 50 games. A sub-50-win team hasn’t had the MVP since 1982, when the Moses Malone won it with the Rockets. The Rockets won 46 games and went on to get bounced in the first round.

Over the past 20 seasons, every league MVP has come from a team seeded one or two in their conference. "

Now that 2nd paragraph eliminated Harden last year, too, so maybe Kawhi or Bron deserved it more last year

Westbrook now will most likely either have another triple double season, or finish single digit rebounds from that stat

And Harden should still get all the first place votes

So is your main gripe with Westbrook winning it last year because of TEAM win differential? Or do you think Harden's individual stats and play were better than Westbrook's individual stats and play? Didn't RW have one of the best VORP's ever?

I'm interested to see what Philly can do in the postseason this year. The East is kind of open and they might win a series but it's hard to trust a really young team in the postseason.

Hmm, I don't know proh
1. Annoyance at the voters (some not all) that essentially have it to him mainly for the 3-2
2. Team record, give it to someone from a top team, don't care that much if you are "carrying a team to the 6 seed
3. Stats. In a vacuum, Russ's stats were mostly better than contenders. A few advanced stats pointe else, 8 think

4. (bc I'm a Rockets fan really is 4th though)

Westbrook needed to average 17 rpg over the last 2 games to average a triple double for the season. He got 18 tonight.

Tony Parker makes it sound like Kawhi is just being a bitch which is a shame, because Kawhi was the NBA player I most respected. I guess this entire era of stars is a bunch of bitches. Who is the best respectable player these days? Probably just Westbrook LOL.

Was thinking that it would be amazing if Kawhi came out to play in the 1st round. With no Curry...I'd pick San Antonio in heartbeat with Leonard.

Ws got a gift from the gods by drawing this version of the Spurs in R1. Based on how bad they’ve played the past 6 weeks or so, I don’t think there’s an easier draw for them sans Curry.

He doesn't need to be that good...they just need more offense.

I mean...the Warriors are 7-10 in their last 17....they look like shit. They'll obviously pick it up for the playoffs, but they're extremely vulnerable right now. Durant is inconsistent and their second line looks like ass...which is what has made them so unbeatable in the last couple years.

TBF, they certainly didn't look like shit against OKC last week, and they managed to beat the Spurs when Curry went out with that injury (I was at that game), but I do think that blowouts to Utah and the Pacers is concerning. For the first time in the last four seasons, I'm not exactly brimming with confidence about their chances at a title, but if they can handle the Spurs and have Curry back at even ~80% in R2, the conversation can change pretty quickly.

Kawhi is certainly a wild card and none of us will know until tip off on Saturday, but I'm less scared of this version of the Spurs than say Utah, a healthy MIN squad, and New Orleans where AD would probably be the best player on the court. I was kinda hoping for OKC tbh, but a Spurs team that's absolute garbage on the road is the Dubs wet dream (assuming no Kawhi)

So yeah, I'll take it. Either way, nobody can really complain about this playoffs setup being 'boring' like the past few seasons, and several teams have a semi-legit chance off winning a title.

You're right houston's others got a lot of open shots but in general, it seems like they stayed home in halfcourt situations and let harden go one on one or 2 on 2 in the screen and roll.

i don't remember any double teams or traps on harden. in fact, after watching the highlights, they played the pick n roll with only 2 defenders all night. seems pretty clear they didn't want to let other shooters get going.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ln4CnZ_TN4

1:36 way too easy wide open 6 footer because they played capella
3:12 single switch on towns for an easy layup
3:56 just let him shoot the 3
4:05 same
4:24 1 on 1 drive with offensive rebound and follow
4:48 same

I'm not saying its a bad idea but they clearly didn't do anything to try and take harden away. and if you try to take harden away, some 3rd guy prolly goes for 25.

So the Cavs are gonna win the East even though they needed a career night from LeBron to beat a poor shooting pacers team at home in game 2? LOL

Not sure the Cavs will win the East, but honestly, it doesn't even matter who wins the East. The West team in the Finals is likely to sweep.

^^

The Pacers shot 53%. They're actually a really good team. This isn't a 1/8 matchup...it's 4/5 for a reason.

And the rest of the Cavs still need to pick it up. They didn't do jack shit in Game 1 and only Korver did anything in Game 2.

The Cavs have talent to do some actual damage...but they have zero consistency outside of Lebron. Jeff Green can put up 30+ one night...then not hit 30 points combine for the next 5 games. JR Smith is the same way. Love and Korver are a little more consistent, but not enough for them to beat anyone coming out of the West.

I still think Lebron can carry them through the East because he's Lebron fucking James...but it would take the best playoff performance ever. Like D-Wade in the '06 Finals...but for like three series.

Lebron was amazing in the first quarter. Everything else was regular Lebron...which is still better than 99% of the rest of the league.
