"Just feed them [opossums] cat food i imagine?"

Exactly!

Since we already had cats, it was easy.

They were cool animals. They had their own enclosed room in the barn with climbing ramps and a dead tree of a type of wood that doesn't rot. They also liked fruit a lot. Apple slices and such. Omnivores! They're very soft, and they aren't dirty or diseased. Since these were hand-reared, they wouldn't try to bite you. Don't recommend trying to pet wild ones.

I'll have to check the timeline with my parents.

But you know it's not uncommon for animals that are kept protected and sheltered inside and fed regularly to live longer than wild counterparts who face many more threats.

"What is the most south a polar bear has ever been spotted?"

The southernmost documented polar bear observation appears to be near Lac Saint-Jean, Quebec, Canada, in 1938, at roughly 48°40' N latitude. The bear was reportedly shot on the lake’s north shore. A pan-Arctic polar bear monitoring report specifically identifies this as likely the southernmost observation on record.

For perspective:

* ~48.7° N — Lac Saint-Jean, Quebec (1938): likely southernmost individual ever documented.
* ~50° N — Gulf of St. Lawrence: occasional wandering bears have been recorded there, usually associated with unusually heavy pack ice.
* ~53° N — James Bay: this is the southernmost place polar bears actually live regularly/year-round, including denning on Akimiski Island.

Interestingly, 48°40' N is about the same latitude as Paris, so that 1938 bear was extraordinarily far south by polar-bear standards.
