Didn't get a chance to check out any bottle shops in Charleston (bachelor party), but I did grab a Westbrook White Thai at dinner Saturday. I'm not huge on witbiers, but it was solid and went wonderfully with a seafood dinner.

Stopped by Triangle on the way home this evening and had a glass of the Southern Tier Crème Brûlé Stout. I thought it was excellent. It smells and tastes delicious. Picked up 2 bottles

you know what pisses me off?

that bottle of firestone walker double jack i posted up there earlier, that i got as part of a large "trade".. i didn't notice at the time of opening, but noticed it last night when i went to drink it,

it's bottle dated july 3rd, 2011.

thanks for the nearly 15 month old IPA. I was looking forward to that one too.

dude didn't even fulfill the requirements of the "trade" either.

are you going to bring it up in the forum? I would at least BM the organizer so that trader can be monitored/flagged the next go round. that sucks

i thought about it, but didn't want to sound like a little bitch.

to think, i was actually kinda scared of looking like an ass sending a three week old local ipa few outside of houston have heard of that's pretty ballin.

Super IPA finally. As well as Peach Porch Lounger which is delicious!

Also picked up Odell Deconstruction & Elysian The Great Pumpkin.

Had a Jolly Pumpkin Bambic last night and was stellar.

Double Jack 4-packs now join the 22's in Colorado

Total Wine has it, just called and checked.

What are everyone's favorite pumpkin beers? I've tried a few new ones so far this year and have mixed reviews:

Beer	Brand	Opinion	Link
Ichabod New Holland Awesome http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/335/1567
Imperial Pumpkin Weyerbacher Alchohol content too high http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/392/25880
Fat Jack Sam Adams http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/73731
Pumpkinhead Shipyard Cidery, needs to be cold http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/139/1932
Punkin Ale Dogfish Head http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10099/6260
Pumking Southern Tier Awesome http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/38394

Just polished off Sam Adams "Fat Jack" and it was really, really good. Highly recommend finding a bomber of it.

Sam Adams Fat Jack was a real surprise this year.

The Weyerbacher tasted like a different beer this year but it was still real tasty.

Since Southern Tier came to NC, I was dying to try Pumking and boy was I disappointed. I gave it another shot this year and was really impressed.

Still waiting to get up to VA so I can pick up my Schlafly Pumpkin.

I picked up 2 4 packs of the Punkin and 2 bottles of Fat Jack today. Grabbing a few pumpkin beers here and there to save for a little bit.

^Have a second bomber of Pumking in the fridge...thought it was good, but not great.

Had the Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti last night and it was excellent.

Probably spit the Olde Hickory Eiraphiotes I've been saving, with some O'Connor Great Dismal Black IPA and Williamsburg Alewerks Pumpkin on the side.

Had a good beer-time in Seattle last week, in the bag:
Cascade Sang Noir and Apricot
RR Supplication (last batch for a couple years)
Logsdon Seizoen Bretta (small OR brewery)
an array of Hilliard's cans (small Seattle brewery)
plus a number of tasty NW drafts at various nanos and taprooms

heard from the shopkeep and others that they had to abandon a recent batch, and since that one by nature takes quite some time to produce, it'll be awhile until they have a new batch ready for sale

last night we drank a Southern Tier Pumking. I was very pleased. Then we did a side by side of Stone Smoked Porter Vanilla and Chipotle. The Chipotle was better.

For the game on Friday i'll probably pick up a few Charlotte growlers. Olde Meck just released their Mecktoberfest yesterday so I may get one of those and then swing by the new Triple C Brewery and try out their Smoked Amber and a few others.

^^ oh man, that sucks -- abandoning a batch of supplication is

i got to see the barrel aging room at RR's production facility back in january, it was amazing -- they put a ridiculous amount of fruit in each barrel, something like 30lbs if i remember correctly

there's a new "english pub" near my house, that might have finally broken through to me. i have yet to find a bar that's within a 45 minute drive that's not utterly creepy and terrible for the beer selection. i live in suburban craft wasteland in terms of bars. driving into the city to go to bars too often just isn't desirable. so i tend to try new things out that mention good beer selections, and after seeing enough checkins on untappd there, i checked it out.

to my great surprise i found that:

1.) this "english pub" has a draft system with three temperature zones/compartments for
holding kegs and servings as close to optimal temperature as possible.
2.) out of the 10 rotating taps (each time a keg kicks, replaced with a different keg), 2 are dedicated sour lines. daddy like.
3.) was served with the correct glassware for a cuvee des jacobins rouge (and $5.50)
4.) no frosted mugs
5.) ~50% local and seasonal beer list. seemed small, but very well curated.
6.) farm to table food menu that changes every day.

while sitting there and having the rouge, then making a big mistake and getting the southern star pro-am '12 (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16759/84363.... great great local beer, but going from sour and tart to punch in the face bitter hop bomb was a poor choice in terms of a casual transition), i realized that this bar might not have much of a hope in this area....

1st drunk lady stormin' in: "what's the cheapest beer on happy hour..."
"we don't have a happy hour"
"well fuck yall" (runs out)

2nd drunk lady sits down: "COORS LIGHT"
"we don't have coors light"
"give me whatever's mexican then"
"we dont have any mexican beer. we're a craft beer and wine bar. i have a 'mexican style' lager though"
"fuck it"

Then proceeds to throw a huge fit that the bartender poured it into a room temperature glass, and wouldn't let her drink from the bottle. talks loudly on the phone (there's 5 people in the bar) about how shitty this place was and she wasn't paying for her beer and she'd never ever come back, and would tell all her friends to never come.

two more people got pissed and threw a scene due to lack of budweiser products.

i was there for an hour and all four of these transgressions occurred.

sorry for the rant, i just found it interesting

that's a shame. Hopefully they can find enough of a customer base to keep going. The fact they don't offer BMC and happy hour specials shows they have a certain customer in mind and aren't trying to bring in the lowest common denominator just to make a dollar.

and now with those stories i just picture you living in what is basically Road House surrounded by jean-shorted women with bleached blonde big texas hair

awesome. i'm hearing good things about Triple C. Not that they are brewing anything that pushes the boundaries, but the beers they have are clean and refreshing. I think i'm going to stop by tonight if i can.

For those of you in Raleigh, Ruckus has started to assemble a pretty good collection of good beers. They're carrying a lot more small craft brewery products and local beers. Good work, WillemJoel.

I just had Starr Hill's Pumpkin Porter the other night and was pleasantly surprised because its not a typical pumpkin-in-your-face-spiced-to-all-hell beer

Picked up a Terrapin/Shmaltz Reunion ale '12 at Whole Foods a couple of days ago. Haven't opened it yet but I'm looking forward to it - Imperial brown ale brewed with cinnamon, cocoa nibs, & vanilla. Anyone had one of these yet?
