My Droid X battery situation magically cured itself a day or two after posting about terrible battery life. Thursday night I charged it for about 30 minutes before heading out because it was about dead as usual up to that point. The Google GPS application froze while in the car and I had to shutdown and turn back on the phone to reset it.

Ever since then the battery life has worked like a friggin champ and im getting 30-40 hours of light use before I get to 50% battery life. I know i've had the phone off before because I tried removing and reinstalling the battery. I may have just removed the battery after the phone had died though instead of manually shutting it down. Maybe it just took going through the proper shutdown sequence once to correct/apply updates/duplicate rainbows.

Have you power cycled the phone since the update? That made a huge difference for me.

Son of a bitch! Unplugged for 9 hours, 41 minutes. The goddamn Email process has eaten 27% of the battery.

Have you removed the account and tried re-adding it? Might also want to clear data under Email in Settings-Application-Manage Applications.

i wouldn't have minded if they accidently sent me a telus milestone (since it's fully functional on ATT's network when unlocked, but costs something stupid like $650 OOC) but since I now how what's going on I'm anxious for it to get here.

pttyndal: I found that same suggestion on another site yesterday evening. I've removed the account and recreated it. So far, I haven't noticed any undue battery use, but this morning will be the first appreciable length of time it's been running on battery since yesterday. We'll see around lunchtime how it looks.

Interim report: The phone has been unplugged for 3 hours and 45 minutes, and Email is the low man on the totem pole at 2% battery consumption.

Froyo updates "rumored" to begin next week.

"Froyo To Roll Out On 3 Devices Next Week!
by Alex Smith on 26th Jul 2010 - 11 hours ago - 35 Comments

It looks like Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be making its way to your devices very soon. Thanks to a Verizon tipster who claims that the Motorola Droid X, the HTC Droid Incredible, and the Motorola Droid will be receiving the Android 2.2 update at the same time. He also stated that this not a rumor, but confirmed. He said that HTC and Motorola will be release Android 2.2 simultaneously and will start pushing out the Android 2.2 update beginning August 6th, which is next Friday. It’s expected to hit all of these devices by August 15th. That’s great news and potentially adds substance to the rumor that the Motorola Droid 2 will ship with Android 2.2.

Keep your fingers crossed and an eye on your device.

With these devices receiving Android 2.2 very soon, now would be a good time to purchase any of these devices via the AndroidSPIN Cell Phone Store and receive the best prices around."

Also looks like they managed to get froyo on the Milestone even with the locked bootloader

All of the hard work that has been put into cracking the Motorola Milestone over the last 7 months or so is starting to pay off. While I don’t completely understand “second boots” and the entire process the devs of this community are using at this time, they have definitely figured out a way to get the FRF91 Froyo build onto this locked down Moto device. The port also seems to work flawlessly aside from a little camera malfunctioning.

This is great news for the Milestone community just a week or so after hearing from Moto that the decision to update to Android 2.2 had not been made yet. Now you have an option! Not bad right?"

one thing i miss about the iphone is how phone numbers and addresses would auto-link (in emails, texts, internet, etc) and you could dial/map them with a single click.

is there any app that does this in Android?

I'm not sure about addresses but my blur (at least on my backflip) will allow you to click on just about any number and dial it.

overall, very happy.

there were a lot of things I loved about the iPhone (I had them from launch through the 3GS), but it was just too restrictive for me in terms of what you could[n't] do with the phone. the interface was spectacular. everything was smooth, silky, effortless, perfect. and while android pales in comparison on the interface [imo], I'm still happy with the trade-off of being able to do much more with my device.

"So should you buy it?

With all due respect to the HTC Aria (and a passing nod to the Motorola Backfip), it's pretty refreshing to see a top-of-the-line Android smartphone on AT&T. We're even willing to overlook the whole app sideloading thing. And we're almost willing to believe that AT&T's turned a new leaf in regards to Android. That's not to say that the Galaxy S class phones don't stand on their own. They most certainly do, and the Captivate most certainly does.

(Actually, we'll go one further and suggest that maybe, just maybe, the Captivate is a message to Apple from AT&T that it's not the only game in town. But we'll leave such conspiracy theories for another time.)

If you're looking for an Android phone -- or any smartphone, for that matter -- on AT&T, the Samsung Captivate is a no-brainer."

I just ordered my Droid X today. I bought into the tiered data pricing rumors for Verizon so I went ahead and upgraded from the Storm2. I probably should of sat on my hands and waited until some sweet 4G phones but im pumped to enter the world of android.

I've not looked much into rooting or other roms, because I have an incredible and it's been doing everything I need to, but the mobile hotspot really interests me in 2.2, and I feel like VZW is going to disable it.

I had a couple basic questions:

- If I root my phone and flash different ROMs, is there any danger of permanently damaging the phone? (I know it CAN be bricked, but how likely is it, based on forum posts or other news you guys might have seen?)

- Can i go back to stock at some point and have nobody be the wiser? (Not that this matters with the new DMCA interpretations).

I should add, I am not completely dumb, I have read some of the documentation, like:

http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/

I am just nervous about it for some reason.

Not sure about the Incredible, but the Droid is damn near impossible to brick. Just rsdlite and restore a stock image. Even with the ruling that rooting, etc is legal, Verizon nor the manufacturer have to support a modified device. Looks like the incredible does have a way to go back to stock though. http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-incredible/99828-video-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html

"Android 2.2 upgrade for Droid X may already be trickling out, other Droids shortly?
By Chris Ziegler posted Jul 28th 2010 at 12:01AM

We've already gathered that Verizon, Moto, and HTC all seem to be pretty well committed to bumping most of their Droid models to Froyo (as well they should), but things are starting to get real -- really real. First off, we've been fed a shot of a tipster's Droid X that has apparently already been blessed with 2.2 over the air; the baseband version is a tick older than the one in a shot leaked over on My Droid Life, but it's anyone's guess how Motorola is staging this and what the final gold binary really contains. We've also seen a 2.2 ROM for the Droid Incredible leak recently (and the Droid before that), so uncorroborated rumors we're seeing that three of the four retail Droids will be getting 2.2 by the 15th of next month aren't necessarily crazy. Remember: think positive thoughts."

Motorola's pretty good about it. Most of their phones are pretty easy to save from what seems like a sure brick.

so this is small, but the appointment reminders are pretty annoying.

they pop up, but don't tell you very much about the event you set them for. for example, say you have a dentist appointment tomorrow at 5pm, and you set the reminder for one day prior, it pops up and says dentist appointment, but the date comes up as today. it lists the time/date of the reminder, not for the actual appointment.

is there some app that'll help with this, or am i stuck with it for now?
