why do i subject myself to limit holdem, i mean it's a profit, but it is in no way enjoyable or entertaining, they do keep it exciting though

If you want limit excitement,

play 6 max limit holdem.

its great.

i play it alot, and raise about 30% of hands preflop

properly played, its the most hyper aggro game ive ever seen.

its much, much fun.

Read a good article on Cardplayer recently...

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_magazine/archives/showarticle.php?a_id=15084&m_id=65576&PHPSESSID=7fb55203feaac5a36f7fe9b2889f58f7

I remember thinking "Thank God someone finally said it." I used to be the same way, criticising plays, getting whiny about beats (which admittedly I still do from time to time), but you gotta take it in stride.

I emailed Sebok a response:

Quote :
" I think your article's a must read for a lot of players. I too suffered from Hellmuth-itis. it's a crippling affliction I must admit. You don't criticize a bird for flying, so why chastise a fish for playing bad cards or good cards poorly.

My new motto is "Don't taunt the fish." If it weren't for fish there'd be no sharks....

Congrats on your WSOP success, bet those nut flushes! "

The last was in regard to the limit final table he made, when he didn't raise the river with an Ace high flush. He wrote back:

Quote :
"Hey Tim-
Thanks for the kind words. I thought you were NEVER supposed to raise with the nuts on the end. I got confused.

I like your motton. Stick with it...

Best,
J
"

I think he meant mutton...

in a sng a minute ago, i played the best cards i ever played

we were four handed and only top 3 get $ of course

chip lead: 7800
2nd: ~3k
3rd: ~2k
me: ~400

and yes, i came back to take second... it was grand

just proves that patience is a virtue.. i laid down Ax several times then took my 7's to the house

^speaking of no patience... i play like a MTT per night. play for a few hours and bust out like 50 people away from making the money each night, too. at least its entertaining.

last night i tried to make a move with 99 and busted out to AK. tonight i tried to make a move with AK and busted out to 99. i cant win with heads or tails! maybe i need to make the money first, then make my move. but id rather play to win than barely make my money back.

good times

After today's $1,500 NL tourney in the WSOP Circuit at Bally's... I'm 2nd in chips going to tomorrow's final table! Only Men "The Master" (unfortunately seated directly to my left) has more than me. He's got 156k, and I've got 104k... there's only 450k total in play out of the 9 players left (i.e. we're dominant chip leaders). $85,600 for first place and $46,000 for second. We've got our eyes set solely on those two places.

9 Left, i think this count was fromt he start of the day

Seat Player Chips
1 Adrian Pitts 59,900
2 Mark Cole 14,000
3 Ron Stanley 20,100
4 Scott Epstein 24,200
5 Bill Gustafik 8,500
6 Jody Milhouse 38,800
7 Jon Turner 104,200
8 Men Nguyen 156,600
9 Fil Humphreys 30,700

Hand 4 and Bill has already invested a few of his chips so when the action comes to him he goes all-in. Jon Turner calls as does Adrian Pitts. When the flop comes 8 8 3 both live players check , a Q on the turn produces the same betting as does a J on the river. Bill shows A 5 , but Jon rolls over a King Queen to take the centre.
Bill Gustafik ( the very short stack at this final table ) collects $5,239 for his efforts in coming 9th.

Men "The Master" really is playing well - he has made over 7 raises during play and only one has been called.
He has a mountain of chips now.

Fil Humphreys is happy to call Scott Epstein's all-in. Fil has Ace Ace and dominates Scott's Ten Ten. All quiet on the board until the turn which gives Fil two outs as the 10 has found it's way out there. Scott doubles when the board is completed by a Queen.
Next hand ( you guessed didn't you ) Fil pushes all-in, Adrian calls the small raise only to see Mark go all-in straight behind him for 17,000 more. Adrian eventually shows 6 6 and folds.
Mark went with Ace King and Fil has a lowly J 4. The board doesn't do much for Fil, who says to the drinks waiter "he won't need a cup holder, he is taking it with him". The board reads T 6 2 Q K .
As such Fil Humphreys will see Diana at the payout table to get $7,857 for 8th placing.

two down, knock em dead jon

good luck

yeah, right now.

this should work,

http://mambo.pokerpages.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_simpleblog&task=view&id=510

opt

Jody had quite a few chips at the start of play , but had spent quite a few since.
He finds himself all-in with A T , Mark sitting a few seats behind him calls with A Q , The flop comes 6 6 Ace giving Jody 6 outs to split and still 3 to win. An 8 hit the turn, still a 6 or King to split and a Ten to win. The river is a 7 however and Jody Milhouse must leave the table in 7th place collecting the not too shabby some of $10,476.

another elimination.

gl jon

Ron Stanley goes all-in re-raising Men's 9,000 raise over 2 limpers. Ron was in the BB and raised for 14,500 more.
Ron has Ace King and Men 9 9 . 5 3 2 no problem foe Men biut a K on the turn puts him behind. No heart or 9 comes and Ron, a fine player, doubles up. This is the only significant loss Men has had.

The Game by the way is 400 Ante 1000-2000 Blinds 25 minutes on the clock ( each level is 90 mins at the final table )

The two low stacks are Adrian and Mark.

Ron doesn't have a large stack either.
When the flop comes 8 A 5 and he has A 2 he must hahave been pleased. A 2 comes on the turn and Scott who is playing the hand goes all-in. Ron calls for less chips about 35,000. Scott turns over A 5 and picked a good time to get some chips. Ron despairs as the 10 comes on the river and shakes hands all round as he departs for Diana's payout table to collect his $13,095 for 6th place.

The money goes around for a while . Jon makes a little bit of ground but has been damaged and is down to 40,000 , Scott has 180,000 and Men the rest - about 230,000.

Men on the Button folds. Scott makes up the BB for the 1,500. Jon thinks then sharply goes all-in. He has A Q not really a decision with the chips he has. Scott was just waiting for this, he calls in a flash rolling over K K .
The flop is 5 T J giving Jon a King as on of his outs. It's the 3 on the turn and the 10 on the river however and Jon Turner will finish 3rd in this tournamnent collecting a very creditable $26,190.

Very nice finish Jon.

And I love the next update:

"There are chatting" heh - yeah, they definitely made some sort of deal once they got me out of the way (I was severely short-stacked once we got 3-handed so no deal could be seriously discussed at that point).

All day long, Men The Master kept point out, "That's Jon Turner!" whenever I'd win a pot (helping get the crowd to cheer for me a bit). This sort of hammering the crowd is often done at these things as the players find the spectators a bit awkward as who really enjoys sitting there watching us play poker for 4 hours (especially when the vast majority of the hands have one player raise and everyone else fold - no hole cam's here). Also, ESPN is filming the final table of the $10k event next week here for the series, but no smaller events ever get filmed, so no TV cameras there today.

So, on to the poker... I was pretty much card dead the whole day... only got 2 good pairs (1) TT - early on, everyone folded to me on small blind, I raised and Men the Master folded his BB and (2) KK - my 3rd to last hand of the day, on the BB, the small blind limped, and I raised, and he folded. Of course, 3 hands later, he limps again with KK, and I raised with AQ (didn't push all in like pokerpages wrote), and he reraised me all in... at that point in the tourney, with my stack as it was, there was no chance whatsoever of folding AQ there. In fact, that was the only time all day that I got an ace with a bigger kicker than a 9. That's how card dead I was. I raised with a lot of weak aces, and KQ, JQ, QT, etc... and when I got called, I completely missed every flop (there were only 4 or 5 instances of this). Most of the time, I either got reraised all in (in which case I folded), or I won the antes and blinds (which is pretty much always what you're hoping for). Early in the day, I did get KQ once where I raised to about 4k... someone reraised all in for about 10k more, and counting up the pot, I was getting better than 2:1 on the call, so I called hoping for a race... no race, he had AA. Can't think of much else interesting about any of it.

Here's the kicker though - while this final table was going on, and I recorded my biggest win to date, my apartment was broken into, and the $10k in cash I had hidden in my room was stolen (nothing else appeared touched, but it was obviously a break-in through a window). I've had the cash since my good finishes last weekend in tourneys, and I planned to take all of it to the bank in the morning. In fact, while I am typing this, the CSI girl is here photographing things and dusting for prints. Great finish to the day, eh?

[Edited on November 19, 2005 at 3:27 AM. Reason : KW != KQ]
