He and SandSanta both have PS3s.
Then again, they both have 360s as well.
So you can understand their contempt for the PS3 as a video game console.1/8/2008 2:11:57 PM |

I have a PS3 and a 360, and I like them both a lot.
360 has more games, and some games are better, but I like the PS3 as a DVD upscaling player, Blu Ray player, and free online gaming. 1/8/2008 3:25:20 PM |

Message from Consumer: Hello,
I recently purchased a PS3 and love the machine. It's fast replacing my 360 as my media center of choice thanks to a UI that isn't offensively hideous. However, I have a slight issue.
The website http://www.pandora.com will not work with the PS3. As I'm sure anyone who likes streaming media can tell you, pandora is THE website to listen to music while playing games, that is unless of course you have a massive ('legal') collection that you can access.
Could you please let the powers be know that either integrating Pandora, or at least making it work on the PS3 browser, would be a critical step to home entertainment center domination.
Thanks.
Engin

I'd watched pretty much nothing but Blu-rays since I bought my PS3 in June. So when I popped in my Fellowship of the Ring DVD the other day, it was pretty shocking. It looked like complete and utter dog shit to me. I'd planned on watching the rest of the trilogy, but I don't think I could sit through that anymore. 1/8/2008 4:06:33 PM |

When I watched the 1994 New York Rangers Stanley Cup Championship DVDs, I thought it looked pretty good.
Then again, I was watching DVD transfers of television from 1994, so I might have just been shocked that you could see anything. 1/8/2008 4:17:59 PM |

shrike, did you get the latest ps3 update and mess with the settings for upscaling? I am really impressed with the way DVDs look when changing the settings. Perhaps its just your settings, the tv or something else... 1/8/2008 4:36:37 PM |

when i get home i'll pop in LotR extended edition dvd and play around with the settings for upscaling to see what it looks like.
Curious to see what standard DVD's look like on my new tv. So far the only sources i've watched is over the air HD, PS3, and Xbox360. 1/8/2008 4:38:54 PM |

Plenty of free alternatives, like MediaTomb (which is what I run on my Mac).
Here's a nice list of the 20 most popular choices: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/20-upnp-clients-that-may-stream-to-your-playstation-3/1/8/2008 11:51:17 PM |

How is SoulCalibur not coming out 'til 2009 when they already have so much footage for it? Anybody tried Tekken or Virtua Fighter yet?
To be honest, my PS3 is gonna collect a lot of dust once Brawl comes out on Wii.
Oh and speaking of the Wii... a mouse is still inferior for first-person shooters when you can just aim with a wiimote. But I still love my PS3. This year is gonna rock. 1/9/2008 12:32:40 AM |

I downloaded TVersity last night and it seems to work pretty good so far. It does take about 10 seconds for songs to start playing though. Is that normal?
Thanks for the recommendation 1/9/2008 9:09:05 AM |

does XP not have a dNLA support built in? I'm running Vista and don't have to use any of those silly programs, shit just shows up on my PS3. And with the DivX update, all of my video files play flawlessly. And I'm still blown away by how nice it all plays with the PSP. GG Sony.
In-Game XMB confirmed for THIS YEAR. Hopefully sooner rather than later. 1/9/2008 10:49:27 AM |

I'm on a mac which is why i run 'silly programs' for streaming media. Plus I don't have to have something ghey like Media Player open. It runs in the background and has a nice web interface for customization and sharing preferences. Plus it shares my photos, music, and videos.

FYI I don't have to leave media player open either. And my machine streams everything you mentioned without any extra steps.
But, A for effort.
What' s Apple's excuse for not having DNLA built in?

Make sure the files are added to your WMP11 library and that you've approved it sharing to the PS3.1/9/2008 12:16:16 PM |

you homos leave your ps3s on? or do you switch it off (from the back)?
i dont play a whole lot. so im debating whether or not i should leave it on (shut the system off, red light still on) 1/10/2008 11:03:34 AM |

I have been leaving mine on so far. I love being lazy and not having to walk over to turn it on 1/10/2008 11:06:16 AM |
Golovko All American 27023 Posts user info edit post |
i just use the controller to switch it off (red light on). The switch on the back is like switching your PSU on your PC off. Its stupid unless you are going to 'work on it' or transport it or are leaving your house for an extended period of time. Just leave it hooked up to a surge protecter or UPS

Mine actually stay more 'on' than just the red light. Once you turn on the option to power on/off your PS3 via remote play, the fan actually stays on low and the LAN card stays active. 1/10/2008 12:13:52 PM |
