I don't know if we'll be switching to the 3-4. I mean we will end up having a lot of experienced DTs in the next few years. It'd be a waste to only consistently use one of them. I mean we took 5 DTs last year, with only one of them being a JUCO.

Didn't Archer say he was eventually going to switch to a 3-4 though? Maybe that's changed, but I definitely remember reading something to that effect.

Archer has never said anything concrete about switching to the 3-4.

People think because he ran it at Kentucky he'll do it here, and for some reason people just like to say "the 3-4".

Have you seen those quotes, or is that more prognostication that has been passed around the message boards the past two years?

the way we've been recruiting seems to indicate we're not going to make the switch. We've been picking up a lot of DTs and only a decent amount of LBs. yeah, maybe we could do it, but I doubt it.

He doesn't say it here, I couldn't find where he did, but the way the question is worded makes me think he did actually say it at some point (I thought I did remember him saying that).

Archer: You can’t try to put a square peg into a round hole. Players that are here on this football team make us situated and suited to play a 4-3. We have incorporated some principles of the 3-4 into some of our packages that we have. But right now, our personnel dictates that we need to play with a 4-3. We are still looking to develop some linebackers, and obviously we need more linebackers here. Recruiting will solve that issue, but what we have to do is get our guys to understand what they are doing and get them to play fast. If they can play fast and play with confidence, I think we will have the chance to be a pretty good defense."

here is Teal's evaluation from ESPN Insider:

Teal is an interesting prospect. He is a big boy who carries a large amount of bulk for his build. On film though he seems to carry his weight well for a kid well over three-hundred pounds. He plays guard on offense and is a solid prospect there, but will likely fit better on defense in college. What initial jumps out at you about this kid is that for his size he moves pretty darn well.

He can get off the ball well and flashes some good quickness at times and you would like to see that be a little more of a consistent thing. With his size he can take on a blocker and hold his ground. He does at times need to watch his pad level. Because he can move well he displays the ability to attack half-a-man and get into the gap and at times can get some penetration and be disruptive. He can loose them at times, but for the most part he is good with his hands. He will use them to create some separation and shed and cross a blockers face.

He locates the ball well and navigates around the line of scrimmage. He can try and get cute at times and pop up and get tall and get caught and needs to maintain good pad level. He is a solid tackler who can deliver a pop, but he needs to work on wrapping up and not just delivering a big blow. As a pass rusher he can get penetration and attack the shoulder and use his weapons to help work past.

Teal is a good sized kid who can cause some problems in the heart of the trenches. With size and ability to move he could make a nice shade or nose at the college level. Good prospect who is a bit of a sleeper among the 2010 defensive tackles.

yes please.

I can't remember who we were playing this last season but there were numerous instances in the game that an opposing player would run with the ball and our guys would storm into him trying to get a big hit, but end up unsuccessful.

I distinctly remember that initial contact was made somewhere between the 10-15yd line and 4 players caved in on the runner but he still managed to make it in the endzone.

Torian Box evaluation on ESPN.

Quote :
"Box is a very good offensive lineman that projects as a guard at the next level. He isn't the tallest player but carries his nearly 300 pounds well. Strong in the upper body and has active feet at all times even though he plays a little high and lacks flexibility in the knees. Uses and works his hands throughout the play; delivers a good initial punch and locks them into the frame of the defender. A devastating down blocker despite not taking a flat inside step; really delivers down hard to the inside and wipes the defensive tackle down the line driving his legs till the whistle blows or the defender is on the turf. Especially impressive on the reach and zone block; gains outside pad control and works his feet to the outside maintaining control of the opponent. Gives very good effort getting downfield to pick up second and third level defenders. Not the most mobile lineman but does a solid job of pulling and trapping. A sound pass protector even though he doesn't have long arms. Sets back and anchors down well even from a three point stance. Jams and stalemates the pass rusher and can shuffle feet to sustain the block and protect the quarterback. Flashes the ability to bury the pass rusher that makes the inside move. Powerful and strong enough to stone the defender that tries to power rush him. Box can excel at the guard position with continued maturity along with flexibility and agility work."

What's interesting is that both Teal and Box are rated, on their rating system, higher than Creecy. I mean, these guys have ZERO Stahhhs, on rivals and scout. TOB et al know what they are doing.

The key to a good 3-4 is you have to have a dominant nose tackle. Not just another D lineman; he has to be able to singlehandedly occupy two blockers on almost every play. Its tough enoughto find guys like that in the NFL, even more so when you're looking at college kids.

If Archer was at Kentucky a few years back, then he had DeWayne Robertson at DT, who went 4 overall to the Jets.

This thread is really moving now. Green seems to have good size. I know that some other BCS schools like Alabama were on him. I trust this staff. They have an eye for talent. Box seems like a nice get based on his video. He did have a BCS offer from Missisissippi State. Every class is going to have guys that are overlooked. Then you get a guy like Denzel Good who was overlooked and only had offers from us, UVA, and UMD. Once the guys over at Scout.com saw his film he was bumped up to the highest rating for a 3*, and then got that 4th star once one of the national scouts viewed him and approved his bump up.

I don't believe you and here's why: you don't have any evidence to support your claims...you're just speculating and I can speculate for myself. If you've got some evidence to support your claim then I'll consider it but I don't give two fucks about the speculation of some halfwit "expert" on TWW.

Yeah, I'm definitely happy about his commitment and I certainly trust TOB and company as talent evaluators. Nice to see them get the ball rolling recruiting wise...I'd really like to see Freshad Hunter commit but it sounds like his recruitment might go on for awhile.

Amerson and Hunter are who I'd like next, as well as a QB commitment. I wonder if we could convince Thomas to decommit from ASU and run with us instead? I mean it's just a verbal. Coaches continue to recruit players after they've already committed elsewhere. If not him then I think Days would be a good pickup. He's a very good athlete as well as a pretty good QB, and could play elsewhere (most likely as a DB) if he doesn't pan out as a QB for us. I can see why the coaches would like Green. He could potentially play SS or SLB, which means that you only have to use one scholarship on two positions. That definitely comes in handy when you are limited in scholarship numbers.

"I don't believe you and here's why: you don't have any evidence to support your claims...you're just speculating and I can speculate for myself. If you've got some evidence to support your claim then I'll consider it but I don't give two fucks about the speculation of some halfwit "expert" on TWW."

then whats your point in quoting me and talking shit, mr. behind the keyboard bigshot? when did i ever say i was an expert? Just ignore me if you don't give a fuck what i have to say, word? I know more GA's that come into contact with the coaches everyday than you could imagine, so you can just fuck yourself for all i care

My point is you don't know what the fuck you're talking about

if you don't try and pass your own speculation off as fact then I will certainly ignore you since you don't actually have anything worthwhile to contribute to the discussion.

armorfrsleep, stop being an ass. Generally, the sort of info being floated, like in wolfpack2105's post, is Premium board info being passed along and people just generalize it to keep TWW from getting in trouble again.

he started talking shit to me because I called him out for posting some speculative nonsense that he presented as fact...and I'm being an ass?

bullshit. So now if you don't link your sources or any evidence to support your claims you're automatically posting premium board stuff? It wasn't premium board info it was just him making shit up.
