To answer from last page... I thought I had heard they were to split the games up... meaning more than 1 would be in Charlotte.
Then I went to Germany and never followed up on the information I provided. 5/12/2011 12:12:54 PM |

Yeah. According to the news, he had a heart attack while riding his bike at Umstead Park.
Over the last two seasons, I had passed by him on multiple occasions on the arena level, but never said anything. I didn't want to bug him with questions that I'm sure he got all the time. Wish I had now.
I'm sure they'll honor him at the first game. 5/13/2011 12:35:17 AM |

Ugh keeping Larose and Stillman and possibly losing Jokinen would make me sick. Hope he's dead wrong. And why are we offering Stillman a front-office job to stay? Do we want him that bad for one year? He's OLD and SLOW. 5/16/2011 3:51:34 PM |

Old and slow and still pulls 60 points a season...way more than Chadwick. 5/16/2011 4:01:21 PM |

I am ok with one more year of Stillman. I won't cry if we don't sign him though. He looked capable enough and is obviously mentally sharp enough to create those 'wow' plays.
If we let Jussi go and keep larose/peters/dwyer guys I will be pissed.
I have already come to terms with Joni not coming back. Our D will look real stout next year...
Corvo McBain Joslin Allen Gleason Allen
I am all for bringing Harrison back next year though. He should be cheap enough and was pretty solid.
Only thing that is guaranteed is that I will be pissed about something this offseason. Whether it turns out that I look like a jackass for being pissed will be seen later. 5/16/2011 4:09:43 PM |

Bad thing about larose is not that we are going to bring him back. You just know they are going to pay him close to 2 mil per year. As Sweden just pointed out to me. LaRose was our 4th highest paid forward last year. Unreal 5/16/2011 4:16:49 PM |

PackMan03 All American 4594 Posts user info edit post |
Hopefully that's all it is, speculation. Hopefully JR will tell us tomorrow he's re-signed Cole and Jussi back for 2 more years and signed Sutter to a long-term contract (or at least trying to accomplish all of this before July 1). 5/16/2011 4:44:48 PM |

I'm good with Maurice as long as he shakes up the staff. Bringing Daniels back or someone from outside the organization would be good moves. Hopefully what he said about Cole and Sutter is true and I like Stillman coming back if we're committed to spending money to improve the defense.
I don't really want us spending money on Pitkanen/LaRose or a 4th line center, but I really want to see Jussi back with Dalpe/Boychuk getting opportunities to start the year on the 2nd/3rd line. Unless we give Peters more of a shot then I don't mind getting a new back-up since he should be playing more anyway.

So the RecZone may be closing next month if they can't find new investors.
I don't know where else the Hurricanes would practice unless they built their own rink. I know they were at IcePlex before, but I don't see them going back there since its rink isn't NHL dimensions. Same with Cary. Garner doesn't seem like they have the space, and might be too far away. Wake Forest is way the fuck out of the way. It'll be interesting if the canes will consider buying the rink to keep it open. It could lead to some serious improvements.
Full Disclosure: It sucks pretty hard for me because I just got a job there as a zamboni driver last month. It took all of the employees by surprise.

My money says the Canes wait for foreclosure and buy the RZ on the cheap or just put that money toward their own rink near the RBC. 5/17/2011 1:37:10 AM |

The only rink in the Trinity/Edwards Mill area is Cary Ice House... which is not on either of those two roads.
So they may be building a rink. 5/17/2011 8:42:00 AM |

Biederman actually has no say in it. The agreement with the bank is to keep the rink open until June 15, then it either continues to operate or is foreclosed on. All the negotiations with buying the rink right now are being done with the bank. I agree with the first part of your quote though.5/17/2011 10:36:38 AM |

I was joking. They already have a lot of practices at the RBC Center, so I don't see why it isn't an option for them to just hold more there instead. The only thing I can think of is cost, because you have to keep the entire building cold.

Not to mention the State games where the floor is down... so they have basketball practices in there and all of that jazz. Concerts, graduations, shows, circuses, etc.... so it's cheaper for them to maintain a facility elsewhere rather than have to keep picking shit up all the time.
Kev, Rosey needs to go. Pitkanen I could make a case for. Jussi I am impartial on.
I've been saying for 2 years now that we should have been in the Bieksa sweepstakes. I'd really like to see us make a move for him or someone like him. Although, Joslin might be that guy. 5/17/2011 11:22:48 AM |
