bah, i was doing a qualifier for a million dollar tourney on partypoker, and was the slight chip leader at my table. i get pocket 7's and raise to 125, and get re-raised to 400, so i'm thinking maybe AK, or at worst AA or KK. flop comes Q-10-7, guy checks, i bet out 125 and he calls. turn is a 9, i bet 200, he raises to 500. now i'm thinking he's got aces or kings, or at worst queens, so i call. river is another 9 and he goes all-in and i call. shows pockets 10's to beat my 7's. ugh, i hate playing so good and getting busted like that

From the preflop raise I'm heads up, figured calling with Kings and a Q high flush draw would be decent enough. The flop of course sucked, but my opponent checked. The turn brings another three, which makes me think the following:

1) Now there's only two low cards out there. Most raising hands have an Ace, so unless my opponent has Ace-low-low-whatever, he doesn't have a low draw.

2) What beats my 3s full of Kings? AA certainly, as does A-3, but nothing after that. Only three aces and one 3 remain in the deck, so only six 2-card hands will beat me right now.

3) I'm shortstacked and haven't hit any hands all night. Gotta make a stand somewhere.


So I pressed. The river 4 looked very bad for me, but I was beat anyway by AA7-blank. Just wondering if that was even close to the right play.

Erios - the best advice is to NEVER call a raise with KKxx in an omaha hi/LO tourney... not a very good hand at all... I wouldn't even play it for the big blind unless it was the first one or two blind levels and I could see a flop for the min.

Best advice here is to fold preflop... I like the small raise with 77, nothing wrong with that. But when someone reraises you preflop in that way in a tourney, most of the time they have a bigger pair than 77. Even if they have AK or other overs, unless you get really lucky and hit a 7 on the flop, you're gonna have a hard time going past the flop. Unless the stacks are really deep and the blinds really low (and it's never like that on party), it's pretty much always the right play to just fold your 77 there.

the fact that you were in a sat. with a large stack makes your play with the sevens even more of a fold.

was down to 235 chips with blinds at 60/120 and came back to win a sng on full tilt,

make it to heads up, I've got about 6000, other guy has 7500

j6 of clubs, no preflop raises
flop comes qjq with one club
he checks, I bet the pot, he calls
turn is 7 of clubs, I go all-in, he thinks for about 30 seconds, then calls with T2 os.

Well it finally happened. I finally won an online MTT.

Well, sorta... it was an 88 person playerspoints freeroll on hollywood.

But going heads up, the other guy had me by more than 3:1

Except he never returned from the second break.... so it took me 6 min to bleed him.

Net gain for a little more than 2 hours of poker: $14.

then the guy proceeds to tell me he was favored in the hand, and i made the bad play.

ok, so cashing in a plo8 mtt wasnt bad, brings the day back up a bit, even if it was a min cash.


but ive come to several conclusions about my tournament play.

a.) I suck at bubble poker. It just doesnt feel right to swing an avg stack around ultra aggro trying to build chips. I damn near bubbled out of this one trying to do that. But i guess in plo8, the play is much worse and the players are more inclined to call just about anything, bubble or not.

b.) I suck at big stack poker. I doubled through the first hand of this tournament, and pretty much fluctuated all over the place, and ended at the bubble with only like 5 times what I started with. Granted this was over the avg, and it was topheavy as hell with the top two in chips holding over 25k combined with avg stack size about 4.5k. The 3rd place stack had only about 8k

c.) When the bubble is near, and im in real danger of busting, I need to figure out for myself if its more important to try and gain chips, or to try and merely out last someone else.

The last part is what really kinda messes me up.

Playing in a 20$ buy in MTT on party, average chip stack about 1100 (this is near the start). I have 1200 chips and I get dealt KK, raise to 150 and get one caller (He has 900 chips). Flop comes 2c 7s Kc. I raise 300 and the guy reraises all in... I should make the call, correct?
