kainen - no lag whatsoever? how far is your router from the 360? right now with my setup, the router is upstairs bedroom and the 360 in the living room right below that bedroom 8/8/2007 10:13:50 AM |

ive asked this before
but ive got the premium model with a BB service plan. I'd like to get one w/ HDMI input just as a function of space availible on my HDTV (i've got two HDMI inputs)
do you think once the HDMI across the board models come out, I can just walk in with my 360 and say its broken and have them give me a gift card or straight up exchange broken for one with HDMI? any BB people have any idea if they would let that slide? 8/8/2007 10:17:41 AM |

No lag whatsoever. I've actually had zero lag experience on Xbox live! to date. I'm not trying to bend the truth or sell it or whatever...it just really works well. Say all you want about the 360's hardware failures, and there is plenty to say, their online implementation is top shelf. That adapter follows suit, with the only drawback being a somewhat costly add on. But it is very seamless, latch it on, you set it up in your network settings in the dashboard, take a static IP, put in your WEP or whatever and works immediately.
I have my 360 in my living room which is downstairs...my router is upstairs right above the room. If you drew a line from the two I'd imagine it would be about 20-25 feet max.
If i've ever had a problem it was on the router side. I have a Linksys V5 g-router that drops my connection once or so every week, and I have to power cycle. But that happened before I got the 360 in the network. 8/8/2007 10:44:52 AM |

I'm not gonna lie, Bioshock looks like hands down the game of the year, and an instant classic in the vein of Half-Life, Zelda: OoT, and RE4. If I wasn't confident my PC could run it, I would not hesitate to by a 360 just to play this game. It really does look that good. 8/21 can't come soon enough. 8/8/2007 12:45:49 PM |

i bet if I buy a 360 today and it redlights I could send it in after they come out with the standard HDMI and 65nm chips they would replace it with one of those....newer systems with HDMI...don't you think? 8/8/2007 4:07:47 PM |

id venture to say no. they'll send you a refurbished one back, which will more than likely be an old one. only way they def wouldnt do that is if you sent one with hdmi in it to them. 8/8/2007 5:29:22 PM |

thats sort of what i was asking ^^^^^^^^
i know if something is obsolete and you have a service plan at best buy, they are not above just giving you the comparable item as a replacement with new features or whatever, so if i want HDMI on my xbox and i wait a couple months till the old ones cycled out, im wondering if i could service plan my way into an HDMI model 8/8/2007 5:43:27 PM |

I did the same thing with the BB plan and the elite a few weeks ago. Just paid the 80 dollar difference.
Now I think I can go back and get 30 dollars back since they lowered it to 450 today. 8/8/2007 6:06:17 PM |

I got the box April 06 and its worked flawlessly. Only thing that was wrong was for some reason the memory card wouldn't read as being in the slot.
Normally not a problem, but with NCAA, I wanted to get the rosters. So I went to BB (you can go to any store, doesnt matter where you bought it) up to the Customer Service desk and told them my box didn't work anymore. I mentioned the red lights since I figured thats the thing the hear the most often. I was gonna just get another premium but I saw a stack of elites near the desk and decided the added features were worth 80 bucks. So they charged me 80 extra for the elite, plus 80 for another 2 year plan starting then, kinda pricy but worth it for peace of mind about the system ever fucking up and not wanting to deal with MS.

apparently if you have a unit manufactured on or after July 3rd, 2007, thee Premiums are now shipping with the upgraded heatsinks and HDMI ports (and maybe the new 65nm chips?) They've been reported at Target.
Also, it seems the Premiums at Circuit City (the free "table tennis" bundle) are older stock, meaning no beefed up heatsink or HDMI. 8/8/2007 11:59:36 PM |
Kainen All American 3507 Posts user info edit post |
Goddamn that's HUGE news. Makes me wish I could upgrade myself
Although mine hasn't RROD yet but the HDMI port makes me envious.
Oh by the way folks, I tried the Eternal Sonata demo on Live. That shit aint half bad! I mean it's an RPG and all, but as beautiful as they come. Hardly any load times, battles are quick and you actually run up to your enemies and attack them in a big 3d field. It's about as nice as a JRPG I've seen in a while. Graphically it's stunning. 8/9/2007 12:12:15 AM |

so wait a second, if the premiums are being updated, why can't i return mine and then just replace it with a new one? It makes no sense to me that there are two premiums now 8/9/2007 8:12:02 AM |

welcome to the wonderful world of early adoption!
The most relevant upgrade to me is still unknown: whether or not these new HDMI-enabled premiums are shipping with the cooler 65nm chips.

^^i dont know the details, but all 360's have a manufacturing date on the back/serial# placard. They could just look at the date of your console and decide whether or not your console was eligible for the 65nm chips, etc
mine was manufactured in october 2005 so i think i'm a little off 8/9/2007 9:58:07 AM |

65nm chips have been put in new ones except they aren't out yet, they've been manufacturing but yet to be in the ones in stores yet, this fall they will be
but they have new, less hot heatsinks so 8/9/2007 10:19:31 AM |

yes, there are CONFIRMED reports.
Just make sure it's built in July 07 or later.
Don't try to keep the game, it will just make you look like a crook when they ask where it is.

just found http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/08/xbox-360-premium-confirmed-shipping-with-hdmi/
shows the xbox 360 w/ HDMI and confirmed 65nm chip...now I'm wondering...If I return my 360 I just got yesterday, and go to target or wallmart, how the fuck will I know if the box I'm about to buy was manufactured after July 4th??? (basically asking how I would know if the 360 has the HDMI and 65nm chip without opening the fucking box?...assuming they don't mark it on the box) 8/9/2007 10:42:07 AM |

^so if they happen to have the box in the case at wallmart or target or something should I just get the employee to open the glass door and flip over all the boxes in the store? lol not sure if that's the case, but that guy is probably going to the think I'm fucking retarded...
Yeh I know what you're talking about though...the little flip hole in the box...but people aren't even sure if they xbox's w/ HDMI have the new 65nm chips...to be honest, I really don't need HDMI and probably won't ever, but I really want the chip that fixes the overheating issues...I could care less about HDMI 8/9/2007 12:31:17 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148446 Posts user info edit post |
yeah the date and serial number can be seen but you have to open a little perforated flap...not exactly something you could do with all the boxes...maybe ask somebody a bunch of questions like does it have the new chips or the HDMI 8/9/2007 12:38:50 PM |

I got the elite a few weeks ago, but the hdmi doesnt make that make much of a difference and I really haven't taken advantage of all the extra hard drive space.
But I got the BB warranty so in 2 years I'll just trade it in for the newest model of 360, whatever that will be. Hopefully with like a terrabyte of storage and like a 10 CD carousel so my lazy ass doesn't even have to get off the couch to play a different game. 8/9/2007 5:36:43 PM |
