^If the coach can get the intensity level up out the door we are set, we're a better team than the Capitals and we finally have a rest. The team needed this break bad! Hopefully we'll be fresh tonight and play with playoff level desire. 3/25/2008 11:42:34 AM |

If they win tonight then they essentially (but not officially) wrap up the division. If they lose this battle could go on a good bit longer. Hopefully that right there will be enough motivation to get it done, but the Caps are going to be playing like their lives depend on it. 3/25/2008 12:07:11 PM |

With the NCAA hockey tournament starting this weekend (regionals on ESPNU starting Friday afternoon, Frozen Four in April on ESPN and ESPN2), I figured I'd point out our prospects to keep an eye on.
Jamie McBain, D, sophomore, Wisconsin 2006, 2nd round Wisconsin is the 3 seed in the Midwest bracket which is being hosted in their home arena, the Kohl Center. The Badgers have had a tough year, but snuck in with an at-large bid and will have a tough matchup against Denver. McBain has 3 goals and 18 assists in 33 games.
Kyle Lawson, D, sophomore, Notre Dame 2005, 7th round Notre Dame is the 4 seed in the West bracket hosted at World Arena in Colorado Springs. They will play 1 seed New Hampshire. Lawson has 4 goals and 20 assists on the Irish blue line this season. This guy might turn out to be a real steal from the last round of the draft.
Nick Dodge, RW, senior, Clarkson 2006, 6th round Dodge would like to join Erik Cole as the next great Canes winger to come out of Clarkson. The Golden Knights captain was a 2nd team All-American last season. He has 12 goals and 14 assists in 37 games this season. Clarkson finished 1st in the ECAC regular season, but was upset by Colgate in the tournament. They are a 3 seed and will play Bret Hedican's 2 seed St. Cloud State in the East regional.
Tim Kunes, D, junior, Boston College 2005, 5th round Boston College finished 4th in Hockey East in the regular season, but won the conference tournament to grab an automatic bid as a 2 seed in the Northeast regional. They will play Minnesota; this is one I really want to watch (go Gophers). Kunes had a goal and 7 assists in 39 games this season.
NOT IN THE TOURNAMENT:
Justin Krueger, D, sophomore, Cornell 2006, 7th round Cornell finished 5th in the ECAC and did not make the tourny. They lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Krueger had 4 goals and 5 assists in 35 games this season. 3/25/2008 3:04:56 PM |

Probably not this week for LaRose, but the watch can start after Saturday's game at Tampa Bay. As for Williams, who looks "terrific" according to Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette, four months from his surgery is April 26." |

Probably because he was 2/3 before tonight and has scored the most shootout goals on our team this season. Which is a pretty good improvement over last season, where our team scored a grand total of 1 shootout goal. 3/25/2008 9:38:32 PM |

On another note, Versus just showed the area around the Phoenix arena when they built it 4 years ago. There was literally NOTHING there; much worse than the RBC Center area. Yet now, 4 years later, the place is an entertainment complex with shops and restaurants. Looks fantastic. What has gone wrong here? The RBC Center/Carter-Finley complex was originally billed as "the Meadowlands of the South", but none of the other stuff ever followed. Now the only restaurant there (other than Wendy's) has closed down.

Just got back, disappointing loss but managed to get at least a point and almost got two. Cam was unbelievable, defense lacked a little but the Caps came out with a mission from the get-go and I don't think the Canes ever matched that. Officiating was horrible, basically gave them a free goal from the 5 on 3 that should have never happened and also the overtime penalty on Cole which is ridiculous to call in such an important game. Dare I say Conspiracy? Who stands to benefit the most if Ovechkin gets in at the 8 spot and faced, say, Pittsburgh with Malkin and Sid the Kid???
I'm just saying...... 3/25/2008 10:25:59 PM |

i've never seen anyone cherry pick as much as ovechkin does. at one point he was literally leaning against the glass while we had the puck in their zone, ridiculous

since i was at the game and didn't see great replays or anything, at least of this, was it me or did washington flop or go down easily a few times?
one play that sticks out was in the 2nd period i think and a washington player was crashing the net and hedican "tripped" him and hedican was just like "WTF?"
at least they didn't call a penalty, but it looked like to me on the replay of the save (couldn't really see it that well) that he dived big time
maybe not
also major LOL at staal, although i really really doubt he meant it this way, in the post game
