I have a friend from work who does not like beer. He lives in clayton so he is used to Bud Light and Natty Light being the only options. I have been bringing him craft beers for a few months to figure out what he likes. I finally stuck a chord with Shotgun Betty. I am not much of a hefeweizen drinker so I need some suggestions on other good stuff to get him to try.

^^Sierra Nevada Kellerweis is probably my favorite among seasonal or year round hefeweizen. It's readily available. the banana/clove flavors are a little stronger than Shotgun Betty. it would be a good marker to determine what he really likes about this particular style of beer. If Kellerweis doesn't please him you may look into something like the Blanco Diablo or other witbiers that are a little lighter and don't have the esters and phenol flavors.

Yea, they always have a good lineup, those one's written in chalk are from their new 7bbl "experimental" system they're using for new recipes.

hey ive never had blabaer. had a homebrewed blueberry lambic fermented with harvested blabaer dregs, but that's as close as i've gotten.
but i wanted a blueberry -> blueberry to keep the comparison legit. (ok ill give you there's a difference in style. but still. "fruit beer")

i picked up a sixer of Lagunitas Daytime Fractional IPA. was getting a little bored with seasonals/pumpkins and needed something to mix it up. What a great session IPA. I love lagunitas but they're always a brewery i pass over. it's like the "they'll always be there, so i don't need it now" type thought. but i was really impressed. ^^basically they took their Buckshot Amber Ale and refermented it with wild yeast and then aged it in barrels for two years (or so they say).

GABF uses BJCP (as well as all AHA homebrew competitions) http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style17.php doesn't recognize American sour/wilds as different than what's already out there, but the Brewer's Association does.
World Beer Cup uses Brewer's Association Style Guidelines: http://www.brewersassociation.org/attachments/0000/7526/2012_BA_Beer_Styles_Final.pdf Has these two additional categories: Category 18: American-Style Sour Ale Category 19: American-Style Brett Ale
American-Style Brett Ale American Brett ales can be very light to black or take on the color of added fruits or other ingredients. Wood- and barrel- aged sour ales are classified elsewhere. The evolution of natural acidity develops balanced complexity. Horsey, goaty, leathery, phenolic and light to moderate and/or fruity acidic character evolved from Brettanomyces organisms may be evident, yet in balance with other character. Acidity may also be contributed to by bacteria, but may or may not dominate. Residual flavors that come from liquids previously aged in a barrel such as bourbon or sherry should not be present. Wood vessels may be used during the fermentation and aging process, but wood-derived flavors such as vanillin must not be present. bottles #14 and 16 of 240. I'm not usually big on NG, but this was a very well done sour ale by them. and the brewmaster and reps were very nice and social last night.

Full Nelson Pale Ale is delicious. It should be hitting all of NC along with the rest of Blue Mountain. I was able to get a case from my gf's boss and I love it. 5.9% but goes down like an easy session beer. Hops are VA grown Cascade, with VA mountain water. this beer has jumped up to my favorites list for easy drinkers.
The Autumnal Mole is nice, not as hot as the label makes it seem. has some nice spice notes, a little thin, but overall a good beer.
and Centennial, always a classic. i picked these up to make the Founders Beer Cheese Soup.

I have been holding off on fall beers till this weekend. I picked up the Sam Adams harvest collection and have been pretty disappointed so far. The Harvest Pumpkin isn't bad but is a little too heavy on the pumpkin pie spice flavors. The Latitude 48 IPA tasted like they used hops concentrate out of a bottle or something.
