^^ Don't forget about Leinart, who also started ahead of him, and also got injured to even get Yates a jersey on gameday.

neither is 40% from behind the arc

point is, neither is CLEARLY better than the other

funny how much they both suck at FTs though

trump card for Purvis is he's a freshman, Strickland is a senior

well yeah purvis is going to have the better career if you factor in that he's a freshman, but for this year UNC has the advantage by having strickland obviously.

how do you look at the stat comparison and say either one is 'obviously' better? strickland averages 2 more assists and 1 more steal, purvis averages 2 more points and is a superior outside shooter...nothing obvious about either one being better than the other...if anything, its a very good argument for pack and heels fans to have about which one is better, since their production is so even

McAdoo is not very good. Plus, he was supposed to be the leader or whatever, which he hasn't been at all...but I understand that leading this particular UNC-CH team would be very, very difficult.

I'm still unclear why Strickland wouldn't have been the designated leader though. He's a senior who has advanced to the Elite 8 twice and won 3 state championships in high school. And he just grins, just smiles real big all the time, like he doesn't realize he's a disappointment.

^,^^The easiest way to settle the argument is to offer each group of fans a choice. Both groups would pick Purvis over Strickland all day every day.

strickland is far superior defensively and his offensive rating is quite a bit higher too.

Purvis is not having a good season, of our six players he's our weak link. Everyone would take Strickland over Purvis THIS SEASON.

O-rating: 100.9, 51.1% TS, 3.6% O-Reb, 6.5% D-Reb, 9.6% Ast, 16.6% TO, 1.4% Stl, FT rate 33.9

O-rating: 105.8, 48.3% TS, 1.8% O-Reb, 7.9% D-Reb, 24.3% Ast, 16.5% TO, 3.2% stl, FT rate 45.2

nah, they'd hate purvis more if they hate strickland. Guy just hasn't shown much this year. I still think he's going to be a good one, but he was overrated coming out of high school. He's more name than substance so far.

i almost think a wide open purvis is more money from 3-point land than a wide open Wood

almost

but strickland is a horrible shooter, so i'm sure most UNC fans would prefer Purvis...plus he performs highlight reel slam dunks and then flashes his great smile to the crowd afterwards...meanwhile, strickland bricks layups that Jaybee could make

^^You're crazy. Strickland has averaged 4.3 points per game in conference play. Purvis has averaged 11.1. And he doesn't just score; he gets baskets at the moments when we need them the most. He's also just ridiculously freakishly fast. I mean, whatever, he has room to improve, but thank goodness he's on our team and not theirs.

Chapel Hill is desperate for a guy who can score, and Strickland ain't it.

To be clear, I normally avoid these conversations because I don't enjoy critiquing players. But I feel comfortable asserting that the Purvis/Strickland comparison is ridiculous.

I think face is trolling, but I do agree that Purvis is overrated. He's got a ton of potential, but he's also a ball hog that shoots too much. His assist to TO ratio sucks. He's definitely better than Tyler Lewis though

Purvis is just young, and needs to learn how to pass.. the.. ball.. TJ Warren is an incredible freshmen, but he needs to learn to shoot foul shots. Lewis just seems terrified with the ball, so I don't think we have even scratched the surface of his potential.

Lewis definitely looks nervous and jumpy out there when he's playing, but I think he can grown into a good PG for us. He doesn't look nearly as bad Jackson Simmons did trying to guard Zo, that guy looked terrified.

^^^^^^My thoughts about Lewis. He is an amazing passer in high school. Now in college, he still has the vision, but the college kids are faster and are making better plays on his passes, or he is hesitating thinking he won't be able to make the pass. He has the vision and knows what to do with it, but he hasn't caught up to the speed yet; YET. But he will and he will be able to run an offense seamlessly. Just my thoughts on him.

Wood is obviously a better outside shooter, and shooter period, but every time this season I can remember Purvis being left wide open and having a full second to square up, its been nothing but net

Just like that airball he shot on Saturday night?

I've actually been pleasantly surprised at Purvis' outside shooting this year. Overall...he's about what I expected. He was slightly overrated...but not by much. He's a decent ball handler, a slightly average finisher, and he's getting better as a defender. Where he excels (where pretty much every one on our team excels), is in transition. Purvis can fly...he's extremely important to our fast-break game.

He needs to improve his ball-handling if he's going to make it in the league. He's big enough to be a good shooting guard in college...but he can't shoot well enough (ala Curry and Ellis) to make up for his lack of height in the NBA.

Out of the freshmen class, TJ Warren is obviously the most impressive recruit, which is why the re-tweeting of that comment freaked a lot of people out. If he stays until he's a Junior, he will be really great.
