so, based on YouTube, is "Finally Moving" the biggest Pretty Lights song? how is this any better/different than what RJD2 was doing 10 years ago? shit goes nowhere. extremely mediocre electronic music. don't see how that makes one a music snob to say that.

though I guess when an entire scene is based around ecstasy & LSD and getting "spun" it doesn't really matter how mediocre the music is.

I only read Shakespeare. I only appreciate abstract art. I will not drink coffee that hasn't been shit out by a weasel.

Dude, as someone who works at a record store, you should know that a band's most popular song is hardly ever its best.

I'm not here to say Pretty Lights is top of the line music. It's enjoyable, though. The hate is hilariously misled.

That song is probably the most well known, but there are much better ones. Also, if RJD2 were here tonight, I'd be there instead. That being said, I've always had a good time at Pretty Lights shows, and I don't expect tonight to be any different.

^ "vinyls," lol, who says vinyls

also, collecting vinyl for the artwork != collecting vinyl because you think it looks pretty...solid logic there, though

It's amazing just how far RJD2 has fallen since his Dead Ringer / Since We Last Spoke days. I wonder what a live show of his is like these days... does he sing? Because he's horrible at it.

Saw him in 2002 in Asheville with Aesop Rock and it was one of the best rap shows I've ever seen.

I just don't get it.

WOODSMAN on sunday @ kings

they're no pretty lights, but i think it will be a good show. i am slightly disappointed i won't be able to get my bro mack on. but for only $6, i think it'll be worth it.

this is GC's little blip about them in the independent:
Quote :
"I feel like this listening subset might be rare, but if you've always wished My Morning Jacket and Animal Collective would have wound up in the same neighborhood about seven years ago, you should hear Woodsman's Rare Forms. Released earlier this year, the latest LP from the prolific Colorado band brings all the electric swagger and reverb-washes of the ol' Kentucky rock band to bear on an impressionistic art-kid canvas. It's a fascinating listen full of twists and turns, acoustics and electronics, tribal drum beats and drifting stills arriving in the most unlikely places. At the risk of sounding tawdry and reductive, this band is at the edge of making very special music. With Tjutjuna, Soft Healer and Hatchet Wound. $6/ 9:30 p.m. —Grayson Currin"

went to the big K.R.I.T. and freddie gibbs show last night and it was fucking amazing. best hip-hop show i've ever been to, bar none.

i hadn't heard gibbs coming in and he's just a great pure rapper, lead the crowd in "fuck police" chants throughout

krit was just an amazing entertainer, great energy, great at getting the crowd really hyped and he's got some great fucking songs. his new mixtape is definitely my favorite hip hop album of the year, especially after seeing him rip through those songs and "country shit" last night.

some people were doing more important things, like spending Easter with their families

its kind of ironic that celebrating a holiday about jesus' resurrection makes me want to kill myself

every band has an off night

i've never seen smith westerns, so i can't comment on them specifically

i'm just saying i've seen plenty of bands kill one night and lay an egg the next

the problem with the smith westerns that show was that not only were they boring in terms of both musicianship and stage presence, but they seemed entitled and ungrateful, and even flipped off the crowd from outside instead of coming back in for an encore.

yuck absolutely blew them off the stage.

i know i sound like an apologist, and like i said, i've never seen this band

the stuff dillydaliant posted sounds more like a general problem than an off night, especially the encore thing which is just shitty

however, sometimes shit happens during the day and the last thing you want to do in the whole world is play a set for whatever reason

just sayin'

well, it was a Chapel Hill crowd...

srsly, crowds at the Cradle act just as entitled as it appears SW did that night.

** the Dr. Dog show this year remains one of the handful of exceptions I've had with numerous crowd experiences at CC -- most of the time they're emotionless, boring and sometimes downright disinterested. **

^^scoff-worthy quotes abound in that article

ultimately, it's only the music that matters, but it's hard to like a band after reading an article like that.

So are you folks saying not to buy Smith Western tickets for say, Kings this Friday? I was on the fence anyway.

And I thought the last time they played around here was at the 506, and if you're comparing your experience there to anywhere else in the Triangle, you're probably doing yourself a disservice. That place can go to hell. I would be perfectly fine never going to a another show there...

And, is anyone 'ironically' going to the Triangle Beach Music Festival?

we make two dollars off each ticket and it goes straight into the owner's pockets (it's his "spending money")
