Quote : | "Moreover, the Palins seem to have had access to a private investigator's report on Wooten (p. 18). And Todd Palin called people on several occasions to inform them of something Wooten seems to have done wrong that, absent a whole lot of coincidences, he could only have known if he was having Wooten followed, or if he was himself stalking Wooten. Once he called to say that Wooten, who had been injured, was riding his snowmobile, that he (Palin) had pictures, and that he "thought there might be some workers' compensation fraud issues." (p. 29.) It turned out that Wooten had consulted with his doctor before going snowmobiling. Another time, Todd Palin called to say that Wooten had been seen dropping his kids off at school in a marked police vehicle. It turned out that Wooten had his supervisor's permission to do so. (p. 32.) It's pretty strange. Generally, the report makes it sound as though the Palins, especially Todd Palin, were just obsessed with Wooten, in a truly peculiar and creepy way." |

Wow, McCain really screwed up with his pick of Palin. Between abusing her power, lying about it, marrying a secessionist, and generally not knowing what she's talking about, it sheds seriously light on issues of his judgement and credibility.
McCain's known for being rash sometimes, and this clearly did not work out well for him this time.10/12/2008 1:13:42 PM |

I cant believe, with the shtty economy, two never ending "wars", and all the rest of the stuff happening, that this race is even close....hell, if not for the shitty economy McCain would be ahead....what does that tell you.....if a Dem cant win during times like this they will never win. Of course, factoring in that it Obama is black and he has a weird name is probably one reason why he isnt creaming McCain....polls have started to tighten....but it does not really mater nationally, it is state by state and Obama has a huge advantage that he has been building for 3 weeks, dont think McCain has enough time to reverse that...unless there is a terr0rist strike (about what it would take). 10/12/2008 1:56:39 PM |

Lol a ad i saw today
"Congressional liberals fought against regulation within the banking industry that has led us to the current economic crisis....."
"My name is John McCain and I approve this message.."
LOL maybe i entered the twilight zone but traditionally has it not typically been the GOP that fights regulation....
Unless my theory that republicans really do not care much about smaller gov't is more prevalent than I though. Also, had not the GOP controlled congress over the last 6 of 8 years. With the current Dem controlled legislature not accomplishing much against George W's veto pen. 10/12/2008 2:44:39 PM |

Roddy - it's not close. Not at all.
Obama 343 McCain 184 Ties 11 http://www.electoral-vote.com/
So, folks, does anyone here think McCain stands a snowball's chance in hell? http://www.dirtygreek.org/journal/journalId/2158
Now, that's a significant lead, but let's consider just the states that are marked "Strong Dem" or "Weak Dem." "Strong" means support of 10% or more, "weak" means 5% to 9%, and "barely" means less than 5%. Those include:
WA-11 OR-7 CA-55 NM-5 MN-10 IA-7 WI-10 IL-21 MI-17 ME-4 VT-3 NH-4 MA-12 RI-4 CT-7 NJ-15 DE-3 MD-10 DC-3 PA-21 VA-13 FL-27 NY-31 HI-4 For a total of 304. So, even if all of the states that are tied or "Barely Dem" are won and McCain takes the rest, that's still a win for Obama by 70 votes (304 to 234). Everyone knows, however, that Florida is never a sure thing for the Democrats, so let's assume that it doesn't work out there. That then changes the final tally to 277 Obama, 261 McCain. That's close, but close only counts in horseshoes and thermonuclear war. 10/12/2008 6:44:55 PM |

Already seeing polls tighten, looks like now Ohio is going McCain's way...all the states that are in play are GOP states, will they come around at the last minute and vote for McCain?
I have noticed he went over 50% but now he is back down to 50%...i really expect it to be MUCH closer when all is said and done and I am beginning to think McCain will win this thing....

But that happened with the RNC, so McCain would need another huge boost. Considering it was the debates that boosted Obama, Obama just need to maintain a lot of camera time, and he should be able to maintain a lead. 10/12/2008 8:33:55 PM |

I've said this before, but it should be reiterated. All Obama needs to win the presidency is the Kerry states + NM + CO + IA. As long as he continues to hold a significant lead in those states, the only thing that will change if the "polls tighten" is Obama's margin of victory.
With that said, they aren't tightening. He's held a very steady lead for almost two weeks now, all we're seeing is statistical noise. Every day that passes the worse McCain's chances get.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — Senator Barack Obama lost the Ohio Democratic primary by 10 percentage points and the West Virginia primary by a whopping 40 points last spring — a sign, to some Democrats and political analysts, that many whites in the Rust Belt would not vote for a black man for president.
Yet here was Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, on Sunday, taking a bus tour along the Ohio-West Virginia border — a white, economically depressed region where the Republican ticket, it turns out, is now struggling to prevail. " |
- http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/us/politics/13race.html?ref=us I have to admit, with the exception of the occasional McCain Town Hall meeting supporter, whites are handling themselves a tad better than I expected this election round.
Although Obama's numbers are still a bit low among white males, compared to the past.

They went through the usual canvasser rap with me, and I decided that after my previous day, I wanted to have some fun. So I played dumb.
"Well, I really haven't made up my mind", says I. "I'm nervous about our economic situation." "Well, you can bet that Barack Obama will raise your taxes." "Really? Because I read on the Tax Policy Center's website that he wouldn't." "Well, people get to say whatever they want on the internet, you shouldn't believe that." "What will John McCain do to lower my taxes?" Silence. Long pause. Then, "Are you comfortable with a President that has ties to domestic terrorism?" (WTF? Where was my answer?) "No, of course not" I said, "As a matter of fact, I've been thinking about that quite a bit lately." Big grins from the McCainanites. "Did you know that Barack Hussein Obama is a close friend of a domestic terrorist?" They're practically salivating at this point, and we've only been speaking for a few minutes. "Yes" deep breath "I know about Bill Ayers. Can I ask you guys a question?" Puzzled looks. "If Bill Ayers is such a detestable man, why was he allowed to be a member of the Annenberg Foundation?" Their faces darkened, and they muttered incoherently for a minute, and before they could speak, I added, "speaking of domestic terrorists, how's Gordon Liddy these days?" "So, we'll just put you down as undecided, then."
"No. Wait. You pulled me away from college football to try and convince me to vote for John McCain. Here's what I think of your candidate. He is a fraud of a man with a horrible record on every issue that is important to me as a human being. He has a detestable record concerning Americas troops and vets, promises more wars, and has ran the most despicable campaign I've ever seen. He has sunk to a level that I can't even begin to comprehend, and by supporting him, you two support the policies of hatred, fear, bigotry, and ignorance. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go back to my game." Polite yet authoritative closing of the door, then I watched as they walked by the window of our apartment that proudly displays our Obama/Biden sign.

Realclearpolitics shows that Obama already has 277 Electoral votes in the bag, and that McCain basically has to win EVERY tossup state and reverse 8 of the votes Obama already has in order to win.

^ he's probably joking. it seems like a lot of folks willfully ignore McCain's sense of humor and use it against him.
For example, when McCain visited a German restaurant while Obama in Germany during his "world tour." All the Talking Heads and the Daily Show made it sound like he was an idiot for doing so, not realizing that McCain was making light of Obama's sudden interest in meeting world leaders (McCain does it for a living, Obama does it for political stunt).
Of course, like I said, it was willful ignorance. They acted like they didn't see the humor in order to paint McCain as out of touch or just weird. 10/13/2008 9:58:32 AM |

I think McCain's best shot is to fire Steve Schmidt and Rick Davis and start talking about what he can do to help the middle class.....no pandering to the base, no Palin wreaking incendiary havoc with her remarks, no more talking about Obama's un-Americanness (whatever that is), and no more only talking about economics as it relates to investors and business.
Most voters aren't investors and/or run businesses, talk about families. 10/13/2008 10:37:33 AM |
