We had two bad games against two really tough teams. As bad as things are, we probably still end up in a bowl this year. I am gonna wait and see how the rest of the season goes. I had us at 8-4 this year with the losses being Clemson, FSU, VT, and either Louisville or UNC. So my expectations are still viable but if we go and lose to Wake or Syracuse or some shit then I am gonna be disappointed.

^i pretty much agree. i thought we'd go 1-1 between VT and UL. i also expected VT to be better than they are. but aside from FSU and Clemson, those were the most likely losses (other than @Wake because we always lose at Wake ). so it's very discouraging to lose like we did and play like shit, but it was always pretty possible that we'd drop both these games to open the ACC slate.

The most discouraging thing to me is how much I feel like we've regressed since the end of last season. Louisville and VT aren't very good, and we lost to them primarily due to weaknesses that showed up to a lesser degree in those first 4 easy games.

Jacoby couldn't make throws downfield, and was short on medium throws, WR's aren't very good to begin with, secondary looks weak, DL can't get much pressure on opposing QBs, etc.

We can still have a good season 8-4 regular season record, but we don't have any room for error now with the losses to Louisville and VT. Plus, I'm not sure how confident I feel about winning even against anyone else if we play like we have the last 2 games.

Especially considering we couldn't throw down field since Glennon graduated. Of course we could have done a lot of things better to win those games but that doesn't mean they are the primary reasons we lost. We are who we are.

^very fair assessment, imo. i'm not confident at all right now. i do think we'll find a way to win about 7 games this year. syracuse and wake are shit. we are playing like shit too, but we can and should still beat them both.

regardless...to me, jacoby is the most discouraging thing so far. he appears to have really regressed and he seems to be overthinking things. he's always held onto the ball too long in the pocket, leading to sacks and/or fumbles. but he seems to be playing tentative. like i said, maybe in another thread, it's ok to throw picks. sometimes you do have to take chances downfield. i'm not advocating the grip it n rip it approach of Harrison Beck...but be confident in your WRs to make a play.

At the beginning of the season, if you told me that we would lose to UL and VT, I wouldn't have been upset. But since it is clear both teams suck, especially VT, those losses are very disappointing as we played like shit in both games with seemingly no ability to execute on offense.

Hopefully the 2+ week layoff will help the team come out strong against Wake as we need that win. Can't keep starting every ACC season 0-4. Hope DD can get to 5 ACC wins before he gets 20 losses

We lost that game because they scored like 6 times in a row. You have to have a deep defense to run a fast paced offense that scores a lot of points. It puts your defense right back on the field and wears them down. Teams like Oregon and TCU now gave up a lot of points not because their defense was that bad, but because their possessions last like 5 minutes real time.

DD probably thought about this and decided not to do it with 75% of a full roster.
