the Love Language played an amazing set tonight.

Lonnie Walker were a fantastic pairing as an opener; I could easily see them doing a similar residency on a slightly smaller scale and it be equally as entertaining.

Every time I see those guys they get better and better, and the same goes for The Love Language. It's a great time for Triangle music and all signs point toward it continuing.

tomorrow night I have to fulfill an obligation to go see The Twilight Singers in Chapel Hill. I'm not really looking forward to it, but whatever.

this is going to happen whenever anyone calls this morning asking if we have third eye blind tix:

PERSON STUCK IN THE 90s: "Hey, do you guys have tickets to Third Eye Blind at Lincoln tonight?"
ME: "Yes we do, yes we doo-dooooo" (to the melody of "semi-charmed life")

can't wait to swag the fuck out to "semi-charmed life" and other killer hits like "jumper," "deep inside of you," and "bonfire"

Stu wore my glasses for the Velvet Underground show, does that make me cool?

Saw Tame Impala and Yuck last night. It was a blast. I read a comment regarding tempo changes a few posts up, and for fuck's sake, that's negative nancy crud. And this is coming from ME.

1. You can't honestly expect a band to play a 1.5 hour set at the tempo of that album without their drummer being John Maher or the like. Not a punk band...

2. I could care less about how old the band is...the fuck?

3. Weren't sloppy at all. Can't imagine anybody's complaint of a psychedelic garage-rock band that relies heavily on effects pedals being sloppy. Just doesn't compute.

Anyway; good time. I still can't hear out of my left ear.

Yes, mostly because the argument after his procurement of them was how long it would take for him to break/lose them.

I realized afterward that my post was confusing.

I have 2 tickets I'll be willing to give away to see Phosphorescent tonight at Kings for the first caller; as in, the first person to mail me on here.

I expect nothing for them, but would love to have karma spread my way at a later date for the person that takes them...

Anyone seen Bon Iver live before? Worth paying the higher (than most shows I go to) ticket price?

i was at that phosphorescent show and it was the best show i've been to thus far at kings

i normally agree that alt-country as a genre is, generally speaking, somewhat boring (especially live), because a lot of times the songs are so airtight that they don't give room for any new ideas and, as a result, are boring. however, i definitely think that phosphorescent is about ten notches above most of his contemporaries. his music and lyrics always seemed very spiritual to me, and that definitely came through live.

crowd was decent at best and about 1/4 of the people left by the time it was done, but everyone who stayed seemed astonished by just how tight (yet free) they were as a band. they really struck a perfect balance between quiet songs and loud songs, perfect harmonies, some fantastic melodies, and some Parsons-esque west-coast country-rock jams. i was definitely blown away and, while i was already a HUGE phosphorescent fan, became an even bigger one last night.

I was having a conversation with someone the other day about how people will bitch and moan about a show being a certain price but not even give a second thought to dropping $30-40 bucks on drinks at a bar or on (insert drug of choice here).

(btw, I'm in this same boat and haven't bought tickets for this show because of the price. just funny how we prioritize things)

^ I agree... and fuck, I've spent more money on lesser shows, but I already have a lot invested in tickets this summer, and I was only lukewarm on Bon Iver's last record.

Not to mention The Rosebuds play around quite a bit and I've seen them so many times.

Just got back from a trip to Atlanta. Saw The Flaming Lips doing The Soft Bulletin on Thursday and saw Mogwai last night.

Both shows were just phenomenal. I'll be honest, when "Race For The Prize" kicked in, I was almost in tears. That's one of my favorite albums of all time, and the Lips' show is just overwhelmingly celebratory. Really can't wait to experience all of it again at our home in September. I will admit that the show/crowd mellowed out as they reach the last quarter of the album, but then when they come out for a four-song encore of non-SB songs, the crowd got right back into it. And The Tabernacle is just a beautiful venue. They of course closed it out with "Do You Realize?," which was also amazing. I'd say the way it started and the way it ended were the high points.

And Mogwai knocked my socks off. I didn't have very high expectations for that show (I just wanted to stay another night in Atlanta while I was there, really); I thought it would probably be cool but too loud, but the sound was actually perfect at Center Stage. They are a very, very powerful live band. All in all, an unbelievable two nights of music. Glad to be back in Raleigh, though.

Yeah it was at the hangout fest. The lead singer had a camera on his mic so that was a little triply. But they did an amazing job

Girl Talk was insane today, and I am so tired now. They had him in the Boom Boom Room so there was a crazy soundsystem where you could hear the bass from across the beach. Fun times

[Edited on May 23, 2011 at 12:14 AM. Reason : ps, our road trip is only 4 hours long so a little less serious than Wilmington to Gulf Shores]
