as a well documented OHB critic I was really impressed with this year's Lindley Park. Leaps and bounds better than '11. hopefully you can still find one around the holidays. Or I can try to pick another one up for you and make arrangements

mmm, victory-at-sea...

Quote :
"But probably the most exciting news is the long awaited release of 2012 Victory at Sea 22oz on Monday 10/22/12! Both brewery locations will be loaded up with bombers when the doors open Monday morning. Be the first to get yours so you can brag to the beer world and spark the ire of non-San Diegan beer nerds, er, aficionados. If they really cared about good beer they would move here right? See you all very soon."

indeed, ballast point, indeed (though i personally would move for dorado over victory-at-sea)

My beer shop had a couple of Founders beers on tap this week. Got one of these before it ran out on Tuesday:

And gonna pick up a Breakfast Stout today. Yum.

picked up a four pack of 2011 Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout last night. a couple cases had been sitting in good conditions for about a year at the store. Definitely want to try one side by side with a fresh 12 when they arrive soon

we've already seen the 2012s... haven't picked on up yet

i need to work on the copious amounts of beer i've got currently

speaking of which, my asshole trade partner in california extra'd me a russian river framboise for a cure in a box i got yesterday.

some friends here who aren't going home for thanksgiving are all pitching in and having a big thanksgiving dinner with a ton of fine beers. im thinking that'll work well with dessert.

Last night I had Breakfast Stout on tap.

I'm not overly fond of it out of the bottle. From what I remember last year it was simple and lacking in carbonation. Alcohol came through too much.

The pint I had last night was phenomenal. Quite a but more chocolate and it held a head through the whole glass. Not a hint of alcohol.

yeah, i actually went looking for Narwhal and came out with the BCS instead. hoping to pick up some Narwhal tomorrow when I make my Friday stops, along with some Bell's Expedition

I picked up a pack of SA Noble Pils too, just to get something in the fridge that wasn't a stout. I really enjoyed the beer when it was SA's spring seasonal, but now that they moved it into the Brewmaster's Collection it's a little different. Not as crisp and clean. that unique flavor is still there, but it's just not the same.

Had a pretty bland Bells Octoberfest last night. Thought it might get better as it warmed up, but was overall unimpressive.

Going to check out the Narwhal today as well. Just saw where my shop got it in.

My last event with Starr Hill is tonight. Buy the pint keep the glass featuring The Love, our wheat beer, at Sawmill Tap Room. All sales of The Love this month will benefit Pretty in Pink, a local breast cancer foundation.

Finally started up an untappd account. Sent requests to a few of you guys. Feel free to pm your user name (I prefer to keep my name off of tww)

I picked up my Narwhal at HT at Tryon/Kildaire in Cary. Triangle Wine Co. in Morrisville has it, but you have to be a beer club member (free).

tried the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale this weekend. Very enjoyable.

However, it was overshadowed by the Founders Breakfast Stout I had next. A+++ beer, would drink again. I had been wanting to try one for a long time and just never got around to it. The waitress accidentally poured a 2nd one later when she meant to get a different beer for some other customer. She came by and asked me if I was interested in another (free of charge) and I definitely took it.

i seriously think i've somehow blown my palate out on hops.

ipas and iipas/dipas just aren't doing much for me at all right now, and it's kinda sad.

everything seems pretty bland and just not that interesting.

drank a 2 week old pliny saturday on a fresh palate and just thought it was "ok".

maybe i need a few weeks off of bitterness and just have stouts and sours.

-----

also: would you buy a case of bcbs at $170

I've never been into the whole IPA thing; never could acquire a taste for the super hoppy beers. Most super hoppy beers I've had just came off kind of one-note and seemed to mask the type of flavors I normally enjoy in beers. I know lots of people enjoy them though as they have seemed to be the big thing the past few years. I tried tons of them and they just never agreed with my tastebuds.

I will say that in some beers, or in moderation with other flavors, I am completely OK with hops. For example, Great Divide's various oak-aged Yetis are some of my favorite beers and they definitely have a hop bite to them but it's not super in-your-face hoppy from start to finish.

see the thing is, i made cocoa/serrano porter a few years ago that was mind blowing.

i love chocolate and peppers as a combination. i love mole and every mole dish i've ever had.

but the spices used in this beer make it completely terrible to me. idk if it was the gingery/clovey/almost anise-y licorice/cinnamony or what, but read to be spiced more like a holiday beer, which i do not care for usually.

super thin, no body, and had a super fucking weird post-swallow lingering flavor.

took almost three hours to get through two cans.

i agree. i expected something a lot drier and spicier. It is very much on the sweet and clovey holiday spiced side.

Oyster stouts are delicious. most are brewed by simply taking oyster shells and tossing them into the boil. they provide a subtle salty dryness to the beer.

so i have a box in a trade going to chicago today, that fedex has relabeled as weighing 0.6 lbs. when i made the label, i put it weighing 6 lbs. which was an undershot, but when they don't reweigh it, it'll cut down on shipping costs. i print my own shipping labels.

there were 4 bombers of descutes bbxxiv and two cans of locals in there, in a trade for 2 goose island bourbon county brand stout four packs.

the bcbs is set to be delivered to me today. this is with a new trader. as is my box to him, as apparently fedex can send to chicago two days quicker than ups can send from there to me in texas. since he has no trade history i waited for a tracking number to send mine.

the fedex drop point was sketchy as fuck. do you think they swiped the deschutes and sent on the empty box/packing material, or just a type-o in a system somewhere?

either way, i don't feel like finding and buying more bottles to send to this guy, but since i don't know him well, i have no way of knowing if he tells me that the box was empty if he's lying or it truly is empty.

oy.
