i don't blame her...don't get me wrong, because it's HBO i expect to see boobies on a regular basis, but gratuitous nudity (and violence) is unnecessary...i think there's a sweet spot between showing nothing and being naked all the time

i guess she might qualify as the "worst actress" in the show, but that doesn't mean she's bad...i think she plays the part well and anything lacking in her performance comes from the writing, not her inability to act

it's more about the fact she came out and said 'NO MORE'. I'm fine with limits but the mystery of who's getting nekkid next is exciting. I will now be 35% less excited everytime i see her face on the screen.

maybe they'll trade dany's nude scenes for some of nathalie emmanuel (missandei)

i could get behind that

I commend the tasteful amount of nudity that this show has brought, quite frankly HBO usually over does it, for me at least.

the guy who plays jon is by far the worst actor. the thing that makes dany suck is her shitty character and dye job. I think if she and jon and ygritte all died it would improve everything greatly.

First show/movie I've ever seen where I actually truly enjoyed the show AFTER reading the books. Fucking brilliantly done. And there were several places this season where things done in the show brought together things never explicitly talked about in the books that make a whole lot more sense to me now.

I have a hard time keeping track of the seemingly endless hordes of characters in the books, but on screen, actually putting an (actors) face to the names makes it a whole hell of a lot easier to remember the different people.

just an fyi on the nudity. according to media reports, she never made the claim she wasn't going to do nudity, it's an incorrect attribution. maybe that's spin, maybe not.

basically

because there's a bunch of shit from book 3 that will be the entirety of next season

But if you wanted to start book 3, you'd be okay through red wedding (chapter 51, Catelyn VII)

I'm about 200 pages through the first book and it feels like I'm just reading the script to the first season. I'm wondering if I should just save myself time and go ahead and skip to the second book

I'd continue reading it - though I'd agree that the first season of the show is the most literal copy of any of the books

there are a number of stories told (basically flashbacks, etc) that help shape how you'd view the show

^^ Definitely read the first book, Ned's chapters where he has his inn monologues in the dungeon cell in Kings Landing are some of the best chapters in the series to me that can't really be portrayed in the show in very much detail.

I didn't think they were anything special and I always encourage people to just skip the first book if they have watched Season 1.

I have to agree with this ^^ They could be red herrings of course, but I feel like he lays the groundwork for stuff farther ahead in the story with those passages and some others the show completely leaves out.

same here. not going to skip though, I think it adds a lot of depth to the stuff you see on the show, but it kind of sucks knowing what's going to happen.

The Red Wedding is the beginning of book 3 right? Only like 1,600 more pages to go haha

I'm on book 3 now, and one of the biggest differences I've noticed is the total lack of the "fools" or court jesters throughout the HBO mini series. Most of these characters aren't even mentioned in the series, and some of them add pretty good humor. I totally understand why they were cut out, but it makes reading the books seem like a different experience, even when comparing season one to the first book. my2c

We didn't spoil anything that wasn't on the show. I guess you could say the fools thing but it will likely never be on the show. The other thread is talking about shit that hasn't happened yet. MAYBE what we need is a book/show comparison thread that only goes up to where the show is

but seriously, the books do add some richness of perspective but the first book is pretty much de facto the show and does tend to drag on. I'm about halfway through now and I'll probably re-watch the first season to see if I just missed some scenes (probably) or they weren't adapted to the show.

Not too far away from season 4, and not a single mention of a firm release date for Winds of Winter. A Dance with Dragons was released a little over 2 years ago. If WoW (Season 6 for TV) doesn't come out soon, I don't see how the books will keep up with the show. Are the producers planning on breaking up A Feast for Crows into 2 seasons?

George needs to quit all his BS side projects and focus.

four horribly slow seasons

if they seriously followed the division between books four and five, it'd mean cutting half of the characters from the show for a couple seasons - that's pretty much impossible

obviously they'll already need to edit the show to splice the books' story lines together (since they take place at the same time)

the show's producers have already talked to GRRM about where this is all going/ending: I doubt they're bound by the book's release date

Yea but I don't really see how GRRM is going to allow them to release plot points, or spoilers for lack of a better term, of upcoming books before they are released.

Sure, the show doesn't have to follow the book, but it would be awfully awkward for the readers to watch the show, see what happens, and then read a different story. I was under the impression that he shared the overall character arcs and plot points in case of his death, not so the show could advance the book.
