If the phone were still active on AT&T, the easiest way would have been to use google sync and sync the contacts with the gmail account you have on the Droid X. The other option is to plug the BB into your computer, open Blackberry Desktop Manager and export the contacts to a CSV file, then import them into google. http://newbbie.com/2008/01/19/managing-contacts-in-the-address-book-using-excel/ gives decent directions on how to export them from the blackberry itself and then just log into your gmail account on a computer, open Contacts, hit the More Actions drop down and choose import. 8/18/2010 12:05:58 PM |

man ever since I did this manual update of Android 2.2, my motorola droid has just been running like shit. Everything is slow, the touch screen barely responds the first time I touch it, and its driving me insane.
Anyone know how to revert back to 2.1? My phone was not even close to this retarded before this update. 8/18/2010 12:23:47 PM |

Believe you'll need to go back to 2.0 or 2.0.1 and then manually update to 2.1 8/18/2010 12:32:19 PM |

Why you worried about syncing contacts?
Switching phones is a cathartic experience. You should be manually going through your phone and only adding numbers you need to your new one. Cut all the junk and bad energy out of your life.

If that blackberry can do wifi (Idk much about blackberries) use wifi to get on Google Sync and upload your contacts. If not, use the Blackberry Desktop Manager mentioned above, that's a great solution I hadn't thought of. If for some reason you can't do that, you might be manually typing those things into Gmail. 8/18/2010 1:55:57 PM |

^^yea I'm actually doing that as well. I'm manually transferring contacts to my Droid X tonight from my current phone. Should be a good filter; if I don't feel like putting in the effort to transfer their number, I probably don't need it
they attempted delivery a bit ago and it should be heading to the fed ex station this afternoon. I'm going to have to run by the office tonight on my way home to pick it up. Luckily the fedex location is actually almost on my normal way home

Freakin root that thing, install the most recent unofficial 2.2 version, install low voltage overclocked kernel and crank the bitch up from 600 to about 1100 MHz. Sluggishness and freezing is nonexistent, and you get flash and all the optimizations of 2.2.

when you guys first got your phones, did you charge it all the way up before ever turning it on? Or is putting the battery in and charging it several hours while you are messing with it fine too for the first charge? 8/18/2010 6:14:31 PM |

well I screwed up as soon as getting the phone. I opened the phone and see a big tab that says "Pull"...so I pull...turns out that wasn't supposed to come out and now I can't get my battery out
My last phone had something like that that I *was* supposed to pull out and this also said pull on it. Oh well. I'll figure something out.

ha, apparently some people have been told that they voided their warranties by removing that tab. As for using it when you get it, you should be fine. It may take a couple charging cycles for the battery life to improve.
And for anyone who's been iffy on rooting, it doesn't really get much easier. EasyRoot has 2.0.1, 2.1 and 2.2 support so you can root on any of them. http://www.unstableapps.com/?p=61 8/18/2010 7:29:56 PM |

^hopefully I won't have to use the warranty heh. I finally got the battery out and put that plastic sticker back in. It was partly stupid on my part and partly stupid on motorola's part to stick that there imo haha.
I have it charging now, haven't turned it on yet. I'll let it charge for a little while longer while I go run and then turn it on and activate it and just leave it plugged in.
And thanks for the root info ^. 8/18/2010 7:41:33 PM |

oh yea I definitely kept it and got it out not too long after I posted that. I guess I meant that at the time my efforts had been in vain (I was being a little too gentle with the phone since it was brand new. Anyway, really like it so far. It is almost over-whelming at first though coming from just a touch-screen multimedia phone.
Anyone know any good apps for sound profiles? I know there are GPS location ones that do automatically change and that is pretty cool but seems like a waste of battery. I'd like to just be able to set "Work," "Home," "Sleep" and just toggle between them via a widget or something.

Quick Profiles is free and lets you create profiles and adjust the ringer, notifications, etc.
Decided to switch from Sapphire 1.0 to CM 6 RC3 last night and wow. It seems to be slightly smoother than Sapphire and has tons of options. Still has the same damn wifi bug where it'll lose data connection for a while and the only fix is either to disable/re-enable wifi or wait til it decides to work again.

I just did the 2.2 update on my Motorola Droid (the older one that came out a year ago). The biggest difference I can see is that the web browser is much faster. The camera is a lot easier to use too--it's quicker to get the flash and other settings configured. 8/19/2010 3:15:11 PM |

Like if you fucked up and installed 2.2 before they patched it?
The OTA has been patched since the day it was released IIRC. First that wave of 'unofficals' came out and they were patched that weekend and then 'official' leaked and it too was patched. Luckily I took a dive and rooted/NAND unlocked while I still had 2.1
From checking xda, it looks like for right now if you're stock 2.2 you might be SOL. Advance exchange for a 2.1 device?

first day, and I had it down to 15% by 3:00pm...however, I had it off the charger by 6:30am, it was my first charge, and because it was my first day I was downloading a lot of stuff and obviously have been using it a ton more than I will on a regular basis. So I can't complain much about the battery. I suspect I will have absolutely no problem getting by on a normal day without charging until later at night when I am home.
I do have the brightness turned down, wifi off, gps off, etc. I'll probably have to decide which apps I actually like/will use from what I have downloaded at some point so that I don't have stuff synching that I don't even need.

You can revert a Droid1 back to 2.1 using an SBF. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-help/37717-unroot-unbrick-using-sbf-post-ikithme.html
There's the post on how to get back to 2.0.1 then you can just update back to 2.1 (you'd have to find the 2.1 manual update). If you go this route be extremely careful, if you fuck up your phone its permanently bricked.
Alternately you can buy easy root (or root it yourself), install ROM manager, and flash a non shit rom onto yours and remove motorola's shitty software from the equation altogether. This route is much less dangerous and lets you run whatever kind of software you want. I'm currently running Cyanogen's CM6 RC3 on the Droid1 I have. It's based off of 2.2 and is awesome. OC'd to 900mhz I get better benchmark scores than on my Droid X.

What's the TWW consensus on ATK? I've gone out on several other forums to try and educate myself but read all sorts of things on both sides from people saying you don't need it/causes the phone to run sluggish/uses more battery vs people saying it kept the phone running smoother/extended their battery life etc. I'm sure I definitely have stuff running in the background that I don't need, even/especially when the phone is idle I assume. While the phone is idle, all I care about is getting notified that I have a call, text, astrid task, or possibly email, though I don't need it real-time updating me on email, once an hour or so is fine. Which leads me to my next point:
With Gmail, is there a way to change the way it pushes email to my device in order to optimize battery performance? I have my additional hotmail account "fetch" once an hour instead of all the time and would like to do something similar with my Gmail so that it is not always looking for new email. I just don't see that option (or maybe it wouldn't help save battery anyway since it is a push and not a fetch/sync?).
Finally, what all is affected by Background Data being turned off? My normal picture/text messaging change shouldn't change correct? Looks to me like it is just status widgets like weather, social, rss feeds etc. as well as email fetching that would actually get affected. Does this affect Gmail pushing emails to my phone?
Just trying to figure out what is and isn't worth messing with to extend the battery; hopefully finding that sweet-spot where I am not crippling the phone to save the battery but also not running the battery down with apps and data snyching that isn't useful to me. Read some Droid X forums and got a few answers there but in general you all have been more helpful here

I'd recommend against using it to just kill everything that's running all willy nilly. Some of the tards running ATK on the droid have been bitching for 2 weeks that they haven't received the froyo update. Told them to uninstall ATK and the update magically appeared. The benefits are usually negligible and most apps have where you can adjust the sync intervals in the settings.
And for anyone adventurous, apparently Froyo has been leaked for the Droid X. http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/20/download-droid-x-android-2-2-for-all-users/ 8/20/2010 12:32:06 PM |

^thanks . You're probably right about just trying (when available) to adjust the sync frequency for the different apps themselves.
