He'll probably make more money off of the show than the books in the long run

i've been rewatching season 3 during the past week or so but i've been putting off episode 9 because of the red wedding.

I don't know how the next season isn't going to be the best. The red wedding was bawse, but that was just the start of the bullet train to the end of book 3

^^^^ plus, the people who are going to watch and read are going to do both regardless of which comes first. It doesn't matter if you read first or watch first, there will be spoilers if you do both. And you'll never get the details of the book into the show, so there's always something extra to be had by reading the books after you've seen the show. Just like seeing everything acted out is is interesting even if you've already read the books. So, I don't see why he (or anyone else) would be worried about the show having big plot spoilers for the books.

How many people have picked up the books only because they saw the show? How many people who have read the books have tuned in for the show? Which comes first really doesn't matter in the long run. Both are going to do very well in the money making category.

Ok so I am coming very close to the red wedding in book 3. Snow is already back at Castle Black.

I am wanting to watch the show and then continue with the books. Should I stop after the red wedding in the book and wait for season 4?

Yeah, even though I think a couple chapters before the red wedding weren't covered in the book and might be carried over to next season.

Book three was amazing, I literally couldn't put it down from the red wedding through the end. Then I started book four, and it sputtered out. I'm about 200 pages into book four so far, way slower than book 3

^yeah, book 4 is the worst one for pacing and characters

book 5 is better, but still not as good as book 3 overall

i thought book 4 was fascinating because of the development of the ironborn. and the final 20% was really good. but yeah it was kinda slow - it was kinda like the political parts of a clancy novel

I'm crushing the 5th book right now. 25% through already (i only read on the metro to and from work) and the storylines are all really interesting and compelling

I saw some 2013 TV show rankings somewhere (actually heard on radio)...don't remember what exactly.

But they had Boardwalk Empire listed ahead of GoT this year. I'm sorry...wat?

It's rough when you've got so many characters, many of which go missing for entire episodes at a time. No one person gets enough screen time to warrant an award.

not giving any spoilers, but since the end of season 3 I've read 4.5 books in the series (currently reading A Dance with Dragons) and there is no doubt in my mind that season 4 of the show will be the best yet.

Just finished seasons 1-3 in less than two weeks. I can't believe how the third season ended, did not see that coming at all. Now I am not going to know what to do while I wait for 4, and then only one episode per week instead of one and a half seasons

Yeah, it's slow when you're watching one per week

But it'll be worth it

Worse comes to worse, you could start reading the books and spoil yourself

I am going to start the books but I am not a fast reader so I doubt I will finish the first one before S4 starts. I have to say one of my favorite parts of S3 was Theon getting tortured. It was so painful to watch but it had me on the edge of my seat every time they showed it.

How far in the books will season 4 reach?

from the looks of the trailer and what they did with last season, it will finish the 2nd half of book 3 but several characters and aspects of the story will (or in some cases already have) move into book 4 and 5 content.

The thing to remember is that book 4 and book 5 take part in parallel from a timeline standpoint for the most part. So this season will actually be having events unfold that are scattered across books 3, 4, and 5 simply due to timing and the pacing of the show. For example, where Martin may leave a character completely out of Book 4, the show creators have made it clear they didn't want to leave characters out (which makes more sense for the TV show).
