that 0-60 might be impressive on a car, but most bikes have been able to do that since the 80s 6/24/2015 9:47:35 AM |

Most 600cc bikes can do 0-60 in <4s in the 90s. Even 750cc bikes in the 70's and 80's took <6s to get to 60. 6/24/2015 10:56:57 AM |

Love that bike! My g/f almost got a cb750, but we couldn't find a clean one for a good deal. I'd own it, but with 3 vehicles I feel like I neglect my R12R enough as is. GLWS!

Duke, I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I even rode it from Greensboro to Raleigh and back a couple weeks ago without any major complaints besides my butt being sore. It's EFI, but it's very smooth rolling on and off throttle. It doesn't have that lightswitch vacuum feel like some EFI bikes I've rode.
IMO the XB-S looks way cooler than the XB-R. I like the small, compact, streetfighter look of the S. The R looks like a disproportionate creature from an Alien vs Predator movie.
+1 to the 1125R being ugly. 8/11/2015 8:12:04 AM |

I was disappointed in the pr3. The pr4 is a really impressive tire and I love it. The pr2 would still be my favorite tire of all time, but they are discontinued and aging overstock at this point. Get the pr4 and call it a day. Youll be happy you bought em. 8/12/2015 12:36:51 AM |

A lot of people you hear about crashing probably bought a bike for the wrong reasons. They didnt have the right mindset from the start when riding. I am a very cautious rider, I use my bike to commute every day I can, even in winter and take short day trip's out to gravel and fire roads. I go around every corner like there is a 18 wheeler coming the other way over the DY, or rocks, or bears, or Asheville hipsters...something. Im very cautious. I do have fun when I want to, on my terms. Early morning back roads where I can relax up a bit, but I don't push my limits, there's no need to, I have a wife and kid at home.
Take for example when I go home there are a few places where traffic merges from about 6 different lanes and everyone wants to be in some other lane than they are, I usually keep about 5-6 or even more car lengths between me and the vehicle in front of me, at 45mph. This keeps people from trying to merge on top of me.
It also helps I ride a dr650 and not a 200hp street legal rocket.
Also, I consider myself a "new" rider, having only ridden going on 3 years now, but I have racked up 30,000 miles between my first bike and the DR. Starting out later seemed to help out with the stupid factor. I did it backwards, got married and had a kid, THEN got a bike. 8/14/2015 8:27:40 AM |

Haha. No. On days that are nice, I'd rather be riding single track on my mountain bike than riding my motorcycle. Just doesn't fit in my life anymore to justify the $600/ year upkeep. I mean, the upkeep is minimal money, but It's better spent elsewhere.
I'd rather sell it and do something worth while. It's just sitting there and its a shame. Breaks my heart to see it sit. Breaks my heart to see it sold. So I'm selling it and moving on with my life.

well, i had a GSX-R 750, which had even more motor, and no TC.
Of course, that didn't end well.
On the other hand, I was about 23 years old, shit-hot and invincible. Now I'm just fairly shit-hot and much less invincible, haha.
I tried to buy one over the phone today while eating lunch at work, but we were about $500 apart on price, due to the fact that I was trying to totally steal it. Like, the bike was 1 year old with <1k miles, and my offer started with a "5", hahaha. I'll let it sit for a couple of weeks and try again. If someone else buys it, that's fine. No hurry. 8/10/2018 11:04:01 PM |

Just read the previous page. My mind is blown over eschewing BMW Motorrad due to image and Ducati due to aesthetics.
Man, there are not many XSR900s on the used market. Anywhere I should be looking besides cycletrader, craigslist, and eBay?

Still looking for an XSR900...have been for maybe a month. Would also consider a Thruxton R or a Street Triple R for the right price (or, I guess, any middleweight supersport or middleweight Ducati, Aprilia, etc, if I found someone giving one away.)
I wish SV650s and SV1000s with GSX-R suspension swaps were still everywhere for cheap. They used to be all over the place for $2k. They're still out there, but getting harder to find, and and extremely hard to find where they haven't been trashed by some sisterbanging 20-year old hillbilly. If I could find a nice one of these for about $2k, I'd buy it.
Part of me wants to buy a SuperDuke 990 or an MV Agusta Brutale 800, but I want it to replace my Super Seven as a track toy, and I'm afraid of the parts cost/availability of a KTM or especially an MV. I don't want a minor lowside to cost a fortune to repair, and/or have to wait God knows how long to even get the parts, while the MV factory is on summer holiday, or dealing with a bankruptcy, or just not feeling like making a production run of that item yet, or whatever.
I did just receive my stainless Keihan full exhaust for my old BMW airhead. Got the wheels refinished, new tires, heads rebuilt about a year ago. Time to put it back together once I get a little time off from work. 8/18/2018 3:17:42 PM |

for the price of a 1-2 year old yamaha, you could get an 06+ r6 track bike (end all be all middleweight), and something like a duke or street triple for the street. 8/19/2018 5:37:35 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52838 Posts user info edit post |
no way. I could get a 1-2 year old XSR for about $6k, or just a tick over. There's a super nice one for $6250 near Atlanta right now. No way you're getting a decent Street Triple R and a track-prepped R6 for that price.
I know this, because I just got what had to have been the best deal in America on a Street Triple R tonight, and it wouldn't have left anywhere near enough breathing room to get a non-demolished '06+ R6 for under $6250. You could get a decent SV650.
It has a couple of little cosmetic things that need to be addressed...very minor, easy, inexpensive things. 8/20/2018 12:44:43 AM |

(I mean total for a Street Triple + an R6 < $6250. You could get a nice R6 by itself for that price, yes.)
I picked up a tank bag and a nice mesh jacket tonight. I had soft bags on my SV and my BMW has hard luggage...needed something to carry a few things in when riding the Triumph.
my old Joe Rocket mesh jacket had a kinda messed up arm zipper, and the armor had total disintegrated into chunks, causing it to lump up in weird places where it shouldn't be.8/29/2018 10:33:20 PM |

Got it cleaned up, swapped a few stupid ricer bits out for black anodized or stock aluminum hardware, removed all the stickers and got the residue off (ran the quarter-fairing through the dishwasher 3x, haha). Replaced the front fender and a few pieces of body trim with new OEM stuff. Lowered the bars back to stock height. Gave it a thorough wash. Adjusted the throttle cable.
Needs mirrors and a suspension setup, and it'll be ready to go!

got my BMW airhead back today after getting the carbs synced and rear brakes rebuilt.
Fluids except for transmission (fork, diff, engine) is replaced fresh with synthetic Motorex, new rear brakes, new stainless brake lines front and rear, new Keihan stainless full exhaust, new brake light switch, new valve covers, carbs adjusted and synced. Heads were rebuilt with hardened valve seats and wheels were powder coated silver with new tires mounted about a year or more ago, but I just now got it all back together.
Parked next to my Street Triple R in the garage, which is for sale. I don't care that much if it doesn't sell, though, as I love the bike. If it does, I might buy a track bike...or another vintage bike (tried to buy a '72 Honda CB350 a few weeks ago, but it got sold before I could get it)...or another hot standard, or something. Who knows, whatever I find good deals on (that's the reason I want to sell the Triumph...I bought it for dirt cheap, and should be able to make some money on it). 7/19/2019 8:15:34 PM |
