AFAIK, nothing has been mentioned about it blocking OTA so as long as the official version is newer you "should" be fine. If not, you can always sbf back to stock and install the official Froyo.
And since no one reads the 49th post

And on a Droid 1 note, installed Simply Stunning 4.7 last night and it beats the shit out of Sapphire and Cyanogenmod. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/chevyno1/71611-ss-4-7-faster-more-statusbar-options-music-controls.html 8/20/2010 2:40:14 PM |

^When I was asking about ATK, I was referring to Advanced Task Killer. I didn't end up installing it. Picked up System Monitor Lite that someone mentioned earlier instead.
As far as the 2.2 thing, I believe that was whatpttyndal was referring to as far as 2.2 not coming through to the Droid. 8/20/2010 2:53:31 PM |

I was referring to the Droid 1. Verizon has been pushing updates off and on since Aug 3. Apparently a lot of people had ATK set to kill everything so it was killing the service that checks for updates. If you have the Droid X, you may want to uninstall it when they officially start rolling out the update (rumored for sometime in September)8/20/2010 2:54:32 PM |

Technically yes if it doesn't end up being the official release so if you have problems, don't call in and expect verizon to support it. In the event that something does happen, you can almost always get it back to stock using rsdlite and verizon won't know. 8/20/2010 4:23:35 PM |

ok I apologize for the newbish questions. Regardless of any other questions I run across this weekend, I'll make this the last set I ask this week:
Is there anything out there that will refresh/sync gmail when the phone wakes up but not do any auto-syncing / refreshing of my mail beyond that except for manual pushes? For example, the weather on beautiful widgets is a perfect example of what I would like: it has a setting that lets the weather refresh when the phone is woken up, but outside of that it I can have it not looking to update the weather at all on its own. I love that a lot more than setting a frequency, real-time, or completely manually. 8/20/2010 4:37:13 PM |

Why? It looks like this is the official 2.2 update.
I used Koush's already rooted version. I had to replace some of the system/app apk's that I had deleted (like skype and blockbuster) but after that it worked just fine and I'm already rooted.8/20/2010 8:22:46 PM |

Serious question. Now that I have the stock 2.2 (never rooted before) for my Droid... what exciting new things can I do with it? Having 5 screens doesn't really mean anything to me. Better is subjective but I've heard good things about AT&T's version on the galaxy s, the captivate. That's pretty much the only decent android phone on AT&T as far as I know. 8/21/2010 11:14:20 AM |

The Captivate is a pretty sweet phone. The Dell Streak is pretty neat. The x10 has a nice camera. The Aria is a pretty powerful phone for what it is. And the Backflip has a nice keyboard. 8/21/2010 11:07:12 PM |

Hoping to spoon-feed your Droid X some Froyo before the official OTA rollout? You'd better do it now -- Motorola's sending out cease and desist emails in an attempt to shut the leaked ROM down. We can't say whether it's just red tape or to protect customers from a EVO 4G-like non-final build, but for whatever reason Motorola's director of information security is asking sites like MyDroidWorld to remove the files ASAP. Given the company's recent history with the mod community, however, we imagine there's some sort of walled-garden reason behind it." |

^^excepting that it has a lesser CPU/GPU, screen, less on board storage, and lacks multitouch.

doesn't look like a bad phone by any means. 3 MP camera seems pathetic, but that 800Mhz processor and the same GPU as in the Droid X/2 means it could be a nice phone.

After 4 days of mediocre battery life on my Droid X, it suddenly completely changed for the better. The last 2 days have been phenomenal. Yesterday it was off the charger for 16 hours and was still at 60% when I went to bed. Off the charger at 7:30 this morning and 11 hours later it is still at 90%. 8/22/2010 6:12:00 PM |

Damn, just missed the edit window. I started to amend my earlier post but got distracted. Overall the phone has been awesome. The only place it seems the least bit laggy for me is on the unlock screen. Luckily it doesn't affect the actual ability to unlock it (that is really easy), the animation is just really laggy. Other than that, scrolling through my app tray, between homescreens, on the web etc. has been perfectly smooth, battery life is now looking awesome after a few power cycles, and I don't notice the phone being any bigger than my last phone to carry around. I do however notice how much screen real estate there is. Definitely glad I went with the X. Thanks to those who still recommended it after I had hesitated only due to the size 8/22/2010 6:54:26 PM |

Mine was the same way, I was fairly upset that I had to buy a charger for work since my phone wouldn't make it through a whole day, but now it can make it a fairly good while. I forgot to charge it one night and it ran through the entire next day with little problems.8/22/2010 7:01:31 PM |

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/22/confirmed-galaxy-s-unlock-codes-are-stored-in-your-phone-vibra/
Quote : | "Confirmed: Galaxy S unlock codes are stored in your phone, Vibrant capable of AT&T 3G By Sean Hollister posted Aug 22nd 2010 at 6:35PM
Sure, the Samsung Vibrant's a T-Mobile device and the Samsung Captivate belongs to AT&T, but there's no longer any reason you can't swap them around -- all you need is a simple script and a USB cable to completely unlock your phone. Dagentooboy of XDA-Developers discovered that Galaxy S unlock codes aren't kept in a secure remote server, but merely stored in a .BAK file on the device itself, which you find with a hex editor and key right in when inserting a new SIM card of your choice. We tested it out on both Vibrant and Captivate and were up and running in less than five minutes each time, and wonder of wonders, the Vibrant gave us a 3G data connection (with 2Mbps down) using an AT&T SIM. Sadly, we can't say the inverse for the Captivate, which pulled down standard EDGE speeds on T-Mobile, but this is already far more than the hacking community could have hoped for. The best part? None of this requires you to actually root the phone, and if you're worried about warranty you can re-lock the handset with the very same code." |
