Don't say that! I had relatives serve in the army during WWI and WWII. Other relatives and friends of mine are army veterans too. Multiple annoying guys that I used to work with and my sisters ex-husband all served in the navy. 12/11/2010 7:42:16 PM |

why are they keeping the big ten name?
why is big spelled with a 1?
also, the new divsion names are pretty embarrassing
leaders and legends? ugh 12/13/2010 1:29:42 PM |

i was trying to convince myself that the G was some weird shaped 2, so that it would say Big Ten but have a 12 hiding in there. why else did they randomly decide to throw a 1 in the middle?
edit: upon further reading, the G is actually supposed to be a 0 for B10...ah, makes perfect sense

Any divisions not based on geography are an instant fail.
Most college fans probably couldn't tell you who's in the ACC Atlantic.
In 5 years, most college fans probably won't be able to tell you who's in the Big 10 Leaders. 12/13/2010 1:51:25 PM |

If Clemson and FSU switched with Virginia Tech and Virginia then you'd have it North and South anyway. But I would rather play FSU and Clemson on an anual basis than the commonwealth teams...it just seems more exciting.

yes, because knowing the teams is important, knowing a horrible division name that is basically interchangeable with the other division name in common use isn't. 12/14/2010 1:59:23 AM |

Remembering two different names that you see every time you look at conference standings and read articles about games and potential ACC match-ups was pretty tough. And it's not like we've had years of it to familiarize ourselves with the two names either.

Haha. That does sound horrible when you say it. Hard to believe that Drew Brees was one of the 2 best QB's in the history of the Big 10.
They also have an award named for Antwan Randel-El.

Really?? He tore it the fuck up at Purdue. And the Big 10 has had some great quarterbacks, but none of them threw the ball as much as Brees did at Purdue. A lot had to the do with the system, but they also put the system in because of him.
Orton was pretty nasty at Purdue as well.

What would the ACC equivalent be called?
Rivers-Ryan? Wienke-Ward? Curry-Yates?

But it kinda is his fault he played at Purdue. They didn't draft him. He signed there, and I'm sure he had dozens of other suitors.
Point is, he was a great college quarterback, but like Rivers, his lack of team success prevents him from being mentioned with the best of the best. 12/14/2010 2:31:25 PM |

Yeah...but it looks like he had shitty suitors. He was from Texas, and Texas A&M even passed on him...as did fucking Washington State. When the Big 10 comes calling, you accept an offer.
Quote : | "WSU can take heart. It wasn't the only school to pass on Brees. He led Austin's Westlake High to a 16-0 record and 5A state championship, and was 28-0-1 as a two-year starter. Impressive credentials, but he didn't fit the quarterback prototype most schools were looking for. Texas A&M, his parents' alma mater, and Texas both checked him out and backed off.
Brees strongly considered Kentucky and North Carolina, basketball schools, before Tiller took over at Purdue and came looking for an able quarterback, not necessarily a body." |
He was about the only thing they had at Purdue. Pretty much like Rivers at State. However, Rivers is talked about as one of the best ever in the ACC...and he didn't win shit except for a couple of random bowls. NCAA wise, probably not. But we're talking conferences here.
