I didn't get the significance of the melted sword at the beginning.

That was Ice, the ancestral Valyrian steel sword of House Stark. Ned executes the Night's Watch deserter with it in the first episode of the show, and then later Ilyn Payne uses it to execute Ned.

It's explained right after the credits scene.

Tywin melts down Ice (which is valyrian steel, only thing besides obsidian that can kill a walker) and make 2 new swords out of it. Tywin gives one to Jamie.

I am not a fan of the Daario re-casting. The new Daario looks just like every other young male character in this show

The premiere was exactly what I thought it would be, an update on where the characters are. I was thinking that the real action would start up on episode 3 or 4, but it looks like its gonna start going down next week

i'm not liking the Daario recasting either. i'm sure i'll get used to it and all but right now, don't like the new guy.

loved the scenes with The Hound and Arya. i really look forward to that story-line this season.

i'm curious if there is some hidden meaning to the necklace the fool gave Sansa. i may be reading into it but given the track record of the show, i wonder. just seems too insignificant of a gesture to show it happening if it doesn't have deeper meaning/purpose.

^Going out on a limb and guessing the whole scene where they were looking for the "perfect necklace" for the Royal Wedding is going to be related to that necklace.

it was weird how they threw that scene in there, without much other context

Same. In fact, based on the conversations I've had this morning I think everyone except the new actor isn't a fan. Actually the original actor appears to be working on Hollywood films now so good for him.

Best line and scene ever.

Daario definitely doesnt look as "exotic" as he did last season (which is also how I pictured him in the book). but his scene yesterday made him seem more romantic than his character in the book ever was.

I dunno, it was just one small scene, so its hard to deduce a whole lot from it, but so far I'm not a fan of it

The Hound rocks my socks. I think the actor really does a good job of capturing a good mixture of both apathetic and pissed off.

yes, that actor absolutely nails the Hound. He and Arya together are fantastic.

Good first episode overall though; they covered a lot of characters and yet the pacing of the episode was great. When the credits finally rolled, I wasn't ready for it to be over even though I already know what happens. That's a pretty good sign.

I was talking with a friend of mine last night that I dont know if I like the Hound character as much as I like the actor playing him. He nails it

Olenna is mostly there to help Margery plan the wedding, so that scene made a lot of sense to me

They showed him in the previous scenes at the beginning of the show, so he's got to be significant. Sansa did convince Joffrey to spare his life after all

Also, I hate the Daario recasting as well. Not to say this actor is bad, but Daario should be more exotic looking IMO.

Daario is supposed to have a blue beard iirc. So it's not like the former actor captured him anyway.

I think I read somewhere that they thought the look wouldn't translate well to screen. Either way, old actor was better.

Previous Daario was way hotter and I already think Michiel Huismann is hot.

Other than that, great first episode. Also hilarious HBOGo crashed again last night. True detective taught them nothing!

LOL, as long as everyone and their mother is sharing HBOGo passwords, it's gonna keep crashing.

I was surprised by the number of people who were pissed they couldn't get immediate access to the service they're not paying for.

HBO has stated in the past they do not care if you're sharing your login. Does not affect their bottom line.

I would argue if they *do* feel that way, for those paying customers that are watching somewhere else or from another device (it does happen), you might want to prepare just a bit on big nights to try and prevent crashes to keep paying customers happy as well. Yeah it's a FWP for people mooching a free service, but lots of people share their logins for online streaming (not just HBOGo).

I hear ya. I think they're eventually going to work something out where people can subscribe to just HBO. A special case maybe or the end of cable packages altogether...

I read somewhere (I feel like I'm saying that a lot) that they weren't planning to do anything like that anytime soon. They had some economic reason.

I'll do some Google-ing and actually try to find that article, though it was awhile back so things may have changed in that department.

Well, not the one I read before, but here the CEO says they're interested but there isn't enough of a demand yet.

In February, Variety reported Skrein will star in a new “Transporter” movie, taking over the role of Frank Martin from Jason Statham in the franchise. As Daario would become more of a focal point in “Game of Thrones” season 4, and in future seasons, it could lead to conflicts with the shooting schedule for “Transporter.” Shooting for “Transporter” is expected to begin in June, reports Variety."

She sucks in the books beyond that, too.

Martin is just having her camp out until the dragons get big.

I didn't realize who y'all were talking about when you said Daario so I googled it.

I was wondering where the other guy went, but now I see he was recast.

They could have gotten someone that at least looks more similar to the original guy.

Oops, that's not what you asked.

Probably because Alliser Thorne is an ass so they get along well. And other reasons I won't mention because they might be considered book talk.

^^^ yeah they guy they got for this season is at least a LOT better than the 2nd Mountain, but I still wish they would have been able to keep the 1st, Conan Stevens. It especially sucks since he left to film the Hobbit but his part ended up getting cut or all CGI'd or something anyway.

Also, I don't know how I feel about the new Daario Naharis, but I did not like the one they cast for last season either so oh well.
