Tonight revealed how little I have played lately. Just curious on how some others would have approached this hand, in hindsight I know how I would have played it too. Bare with me...

Started with 8 people, $100 in chips, blinds are at $2/4 with 1 guy gone.

Seat A ~$150 - Dealer
Seat B ~$90
Seat C ~$170
Me ~$70
Seat D ~$110
Seat E ~180

I made a mistake earlier when I flopped top 2 pair and went aggressive thinking that surely the other guy hadn't flop the straight. He had, thats why I am sitting low.

Anyway, I am dealt Ah8h, Seat C who is a girl and a complete rookie and played EVERYTHING limped in. At this point I contemplated raising fairly large to isolate on someone but the two girls (E is the other) had proven this nearly impossible, I busted earlier in the first game on this tactic when I got called on a big preflop raise with AhQh against As8s and she made her flush on the river. So I wanted to play conservative. Seat D, E, B limp in with the dealer folding. Flop comes 9h3d7h. B checks, C bets $4. At this point my first mistake was not giving any consideration to what C could be on because she was a rookie and really erratic. I already had it in my mind like an idiot that I was going to buy this pot and I bet $20, I figured that D, E and B would fold and I was on the semi bluff with the nut flush draw and 2 cards to come. What would you do here? So D, E, and B fold, C calls.

Next card, another 9. Before I could fully comprehend how I just got called on the last raise, she was putting me all in. I knew with certainty she had her trips. I was down to about $45 at this point, and really just didn't feel like trying to grind my way back into knowing that the 2 loose cannons now had huge stacks which was going to require me to only be able to play nut hands or if I got real lucky maybe steal a pot. So I called knowing I wouldn't make my flush, I didn't, she turns over fucking 9 4 offsuit.

So, knowing that this chick will play with whatever and if she has any pair she is playing for big bets, what would you have done preflop, and then assuming she called preflop, how would you play after the flop assuming she still only bet $4?

Sorry for the long post.

well, without knowing if this was a sng or what, and what the next blind level would be, and when, i would say if you have someone pegged for a calling station, then don't try to bluff them, seems better to try to make the nuts as cheaply as possible, especially as the short stack

^^ Fold prefolp without doubt.

This is the exact reason that you don't play this hand out of position. You can only be putting yourself in position to draw against them here. Lay that hand down next time and battle them from position.

i love playing against girls and seeing them play some shitty hands, then getting KK against them and thinking youre gonna take all her money, and she ends up having AA and taking yours

girls scare me in poker.

because of the players you are playing against

to me it's not worth playing a weak hand out of position

against unpredictable players position is king here

my question to you would be, with those hole cards, what could you honestly be hoping to flop?

This was tourney style, next blind level would probably have been 3/6 and I had probably 5-7 more hands before that was going to happen.

In the earlier game and in this one thats how I was playing it until I got impatient (based on some poor reasoning on my part). The reason I sometimes try to "gamble" and make a move in games like this, to get back into a good chip count is because I hate getting down to heads up and being a monster short stack. I don't care to finish third, which last night got the buy in back at our game. I want to win.
It happened to my buddy in the first game. He played really defensive like he always does (and like I usually do too), the 2 loose girls and 1 loose guy (though not as bad as the girls) ended up taking all the other moderately conservative peoples chips (mine and 3 other guys) when they backed into hand after hand (admitted they were up against pretty flimsy hands like I described here) until finally all those chips got moved to the luckiest of the 3 and he went heads up against my buddy with about a 7x chip advantage. My buddy played the hands when he had them but he never could get great hands in against them, he just had to sit.
I am aware of position and the need to be patient in these types of games, but I played them enough that at my skill level, it always seems I end up bleeding to death rather than finally getting a great starting hand, having the flop come out beautifully for a trap, and getting back into a good chip standing.

I love it when its this easy. Also, signing up for the instantbankroll thing for partypoker was the best thing I have ever done. Doubled the 75 to 150, they gave me another 25. Cashed out 125, back up to another 100. I have never played any higher stakes than the lowest offered before, but I am glad this thing came along and gave me the incentive to do so. Not as many people out there fishing when the stakes are higher, so you know where you stand. The 25 NL tables are the shit.

nut flush, nut flush draw, two pair...all hands that will win large pots against calling stations, sure you might get into some trouble with just an ace, but if you use good judgement it shouldn't be that big of a deal, you very well might have the best hand, but to each his own

if she's really a calling station like you say, when she bets $4 postflop she's told you she has a hand and is probably not backing down. you should be trying to play your draw cheaply here, especially since she has you covered. by betting 20 you essentially put yourself allin (especially since your next move was to call her allin), wrong moves all around ESPECIALLY tourney style, you want to play draws cheaply, and rape people on nut hands.

Whew.... LONG day filled with horrible luck online (I played pretty much every major online tourney on every site and a ton of smaller ones)... was down about $4k at one point... then the "OTHER" games saved me

Got 3rd in a $50 Omaha hi/lo tourney on stars for about $900... then finished second in the $200 HORSE tourney on full tilt! First time I'd ever played a HORSE tourney. 2nd paid $3800... but we cut a bit of a deal, so I got $4,500. That saved me from a $-3k day to a +$1,500 day... WHEW!

I don't want to get all teachy here... but look at the action in the hand:

Quote :
"Flop (board: Ts Tc 6c):

AKKillaCam bets 1200. DrMario raises to 2400.
ktripwvu re-raises to 6500. AKKillaCam calls.
DrMario goes all-in for 14815. ktripwvu goes all-in
for 25815. AKKillaCam calls. "

when ktripwvu re-raised a bet and a raise, you should've known at that point that there was no way you had the best hand at the moment. Then when AKKillaCam called that, you should've known they BOTH had better hands than you. It should've been an easy fold at that point instead of having to make a major suckout to stay alive. I'm not trying to knock your play, I just wonder what makes you think you could possibly have the best hand at that point, something that you should push in with? You should think about those things next time a similar situation comes up.

I disagree with them BOTH having to have better hands...

I think the guy who bet out and called the allin could easily have had AA or KK and just be making a typical average player mistake...

either way, one of the players had you beat that was pretty apparent...

This is the easiest hand I've ever been involved in.

Dealt (4, 5) 4 people to flop while I'm on the button.

Pot $2

Flop 3 6 7

Checked around to me I bet $2 - 2 callers

Pot $6

Turn 2

Checked around to me I bet $5 1 caller

Pot $11

River Blank (no flushes or full houses possible)

Checked to me. I bet $5 and am raised to $10 so I immediately say all in and he calls with a set he made on the flop.

$56 dollar pots are fun in .25/.50 games.

Just got an account on stars. First hand I play on the site (play money) at a 5/10 table I am in the big blind, dealth the bullets, raise it up to 40 pre flop and figures everyone calls. And no surprise the 6 8 offsuit that called that flopped the full house.

Anyway, is it me or is the interface for pokerstars a little sluggish?

Jon, I don't disagree. I'm certainly not going to defend my play as "good" it was lucky. We had just moved up in the money level and I would have needed to make some chips in order to move to the next one. There was ALOT of reraising on this table to push people off of mediocre hands. I won't say it was a wonderful play by me but at his point it was about 3am, and if I was going to move up in the standings I was going to need to shit or get off the pot.

4th in chips on a $10 tourn on paradise. half the field is gone, but all the damn rebuying is done with. Could be my biggest cash ever, but I'll probably end up posting back to tell everyone how I busted out in a few minutes

Well a few mins ago I got rockets. Made a 3x the BB raise, 4 called. flopped a set. couple of people betted into me, so I went allin with the big stack. One idiot calls with 10 8 suited(no pair made), 4 to a flush. And of course, the dumbass rivers. So I am down to average again

personally i would think i was beat.

hard to say since that is the first hand, but it seems like that 600 bet on the river could be value

i prolly wouldnt put him on trips since he seems to be agressive and would prolly bet out preflop with a pocket pair.

i would think that he played K 10off from an early position and saw a monster flop for very cheap. bets on the flop to keep people in. bets out bigger on the turn to fold people off their flush draws. and then bets out even bigger on the river for value since you have called him all the way to this point and knows he has the best hand.

[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 11:15 AM. Reason : either that or a ballsy semi bluff on the first hand, i dont think i would find out for 1/3 the pot]

its too early in the tourny to take that kind of chance...i fold

its not likely he limped with AK, AA, QQ or JJ. he might have limped with AQ bc of his position so this might be his hand. More than likely i put him on AJ or k10. then again, these days i see alot of people starting to limp utg with AA hoping someone behind them will raise.

btw...u did fold didnt you?

ps. i love those new 180 sngs

I'm confused on terminology. I thought sng = sit and go, ie, not a tourney?

^ you're right, it is. Stars recently came out with this 180 person tournys that begin when they are filled. They also have other size multi table sit n gos (45, 27, 18).

i normally dont play the first hand anyways cause theres usually a douchebag trying to put most or all of his chips in.

i liek the 45 person SNGs a whole lot, i seem to cash in about 3/4 of them. i might try some of the 180s. i feel a lot better about the long term playing for such low stakes, and my bankroll has gone up by 50%. TRYIN TO MAKE A DOLLAR OUT OF 15 CENTS YO.
