^yep...even though a vastly disproportionate amount of the students in those classes were athletes, they weren't exclusively for athletes. so while what unc was (is?) doing was really bad and wrong, i wouldn't be totally shocked if the NCAA was like "yeah we can't help it if unc just decides to be a shitty school as long as the treat athletes and students equally" 4/24/2015 8:54:15 PM |

Is this statement actually true?
Quote : | "A university with suspended accreditation cannot graduate anyone. The last time I saw this happen was at Sue Bennet College in London, Kentucky. The result of that move was that within a year the college was entirely gone with its staff and students dispersing to neighboring institutions." |

If it is, I had no idea that could be part of the resulting punishment from SACS.
Where did they get this info from? (same article)
Quote : | "The commission has requested more information about the scandal and is expected to consider sanctions against the university in June." |

Why do people keep acting like this case is so "unique" and the NCAA will have such a hard time? They cheated for 20 years.. Is cheating for 10 years less unique?

http://uncnews.unc.edu/2015/05/22/unc-chapel-hill-announces-receiving-ncaa-notice-of-allegations/
Quote : | "The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today announced the campus had received a notice of allegations from the NCAA as the next phase in its investigation of academic irregularities and possible bylaw infractions. In a joint statement, Chancellor Carol L. Folt and Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said the University had begun reviewing the NCAA’s notice. “We take these allegations very seriously, and we will carefully evaluate them to respond within the NCAA’s 90-day deadline,” the statement said. “The University will publicly release the NCAA’s notice as soon as possible. The notice is lengthy and must be prepared for public dissemination to ensure we protect privacy rights as required by federal and state law. When that review for redactions is complete, the University will post the notice on the Carolina Commitment website and notify the news media. When we respond to the NCAA’s allegations, we will follow this same release process. “Consistent with NCAA protocols, the University cannot comment on details of the investigation until it is completed.”" |
A few things: 1. As soon as possible means like right now dipshits. 2. More redaction bullshit. 3. Didn't we previously establish there wasn't any specific rules that said they can't talk about this? Didn't they just make that up?5/22/2015 12:43:09 PM |

One of the PP know-it-alls said the rumor going around it that there will be a LOIC that includes five sports. Didn't name them...but if true...I would guess:
- Football - Men's Bball - Women's Bball - Baseball - Women's Soccer
All five of those programs/coaches/players were names in emails in the Wainstein report.
I'd still love to see basketball banners come down, but I could jerk off to major penalties to all of those sports. 5/22/2015 1:14:07 PM |

^ It honestly doesn't matter. Either they get off light, and we're all pissed and it won't matter....or they get major penalties and it will be a big story for months. If they get LOIC in multiple and/or have to take away banners/victories....then it doesn't matter if they release it before a second 9/11...the sports world will go off. Hell...if their basketball team gets just one post-season ban it will be headlines for a long time. 5/22/2015 1:39:23 PM |

Quote : | "ources close to the situation say that the football and men’s basketball programs escaped allegations that would lead to the vacating of victories and (in basketball’s case) a national championship looking back and has not been charged with any violations that would result in a post-season ban and loss of scholarships moving forward.
Apparently, the strongest allegations point toward the university for “lack of institutional control,” which is the NCAA’s most egregious charge. Usually, that comes along with alleged violations against certain athletic teams, coaches and/or athletes. But, in this case, the NCAA adhered to its historical precedent of not judging how a university offers and teaches its academic curricula." |
PackPriders are making a good point that they wouldn't have sat on the news for a month and waited for a holiday weekend if it was good news. We can only hope.
