I just realized this is a thread where everyone just posts their bad beats and doesnt read anything above what they posted.
This thread should be locked or something, seriously there is no need to encourage this shit

^ sharing knowledge would be a much better idea....
Encouraging bad beat stories isn't....
Here I'll start. In a tight aggressive limit game you should never call a preflop raise with AK. You should either 3-bet or fold.
There is a good chance the raiser has an Ace, therefore you are less likely to make top pair. because of this you want to isolate the initial raiser and shut the other players out of the hand. Since you have position in the hand you are somewhat likely to win the hand unimproved. If he has a pocket pair you simply bet the flop, take the free card on the turn... then it's up to you if you want to call a river bet.
You may induce a river bluff from your opponent holding AQ or something this way. 9/30/2004 6:15:32 PM |

^downplay the value of suited connectors, unless alot of people are into a pot weakly, and you have position. this is when they are the most valueable. Therefore if you hit your hand it will be profitable. most of the time, you will not with this type of hand, hence why youd like to be paid off well if you do.
this seems like a common problem with newer players, wayy over valuing like a 56suited.. calling in early position where the exposure to raises is very great.
this applies to limit btw. the value of suited connectors increases in a no limit game (when you have position), especially if you can see the flop for cheap. if you hit your hand, the payoff is very nice even with a few people in the pot in no limit. 9/30/2004 6:45:56 PM |

rally, i was thinking about your post while i was in the shower...
if you make it three to go, to isolate, and get reraised id put him on AA, KK or AK. 2to1 im hurting. i put this bet in to see where i stand on the hand. if the flop is rags, and he bets outwright, id put him on the overpair, and let it go then. if he checks to me, id put him on AK, and try to take down the pot right there before the big rounds. maybe he even capped with a mid high pair like JJ or so, and i could take it down if i acted aggressive. hed have to put me on something big if i called the 4 bets preflop. but, if i got check raised, id have to let it go.
meh.
what do you think 9/30/2004 7:06:17 PM |

I tried that once, when my first hand at the table was QQ and I was in the big blind. Had about 6 limpers in the pot when it got to me, including KK.
$25 down the drain, and I vowed to never do that shit again.

although those were fuckin crazy... they made some pretty good plays. i think they played it correctly and you just got burned. i mean in the first one, full house, he flopped two pair. i think he's looking pretty. in the last one he had a straight draw and you covered his stack. yeah a tight aggressive player would lay it down probably... but i don't think those were BAD beats.... just beats... the first one though, that's a tough one.... 10/1/2004 1:18:01 PM |

question for all the pros on tww.... i was wondering what's the best way to build up a bankroll on PP. i'm fairly decent in limit play, and ok in NL... sometimes i can't take the coin-flips... but oh well... just in general, i'm wondering what's the the most efficient way to build up the scratch... i deposited 200, made about 150, and took out the original 200.... any suggestions?
oh yeah, i've made all that money playing 2/4

I would stick with 2/4 if you are doing well. I eventually made the switch to NL, but I built up my initial bankroll by playing 2-4. However, if you only leave yourself $150, that may not be a big enough brankroll to play 2-4. A few bad nights and you can easily go bust. I have more fun playing tournaments, but if you want consistent income I would suggest you stick to ring/cash games. Try higher limits once you build up a much large bankroll. 10/5/2004 11:48:05 PM |

I really hate this game right now.
I've been leaking money for the past 3 sessions due to either a lack of hands or finding new and exciting ways to lose with QQ or KK. I can deal with that. I understand that the board can't continue to make 4 to a flush/straight every time I flop a set. But it's such a kick in the sack to finally get yourself in a position to make it all back in one hand but then get out drawn in a $240 pot.
I was playing with some moron who inexplicably raised it to $15 pre-flop UTG with 7 5 suited, and another decent player in late position correctly went all in(~$80) with AK suited to try to isolate this guy. Well I had KK in the big blind so I went all in too with my ~$90 that I had spent the last two hours building up and of couse the retard called with 7 5(he had us both covered).
I realize that I wasn't a huge favorite to win that 3-way pot, and it probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if I hadn't been losing so steadily for the past 20 hours I've been playing(3 sessions). But yeah, I think that A on the turn seriously damaged my poker psyche. I had literally been waiting about 20 hours to get into a juicy situation like that, and that made it so extremely disappointing. So yeah, now I'm down like $250 after 20 hours of patient, solid play. I've won a lot of small pots to keep that figure reasonable, because I've lost every single huge pot I've been involded with. I know $250 isn't that much, but I really think I have a good handle on the game I play, and it just boggles my mind to think about the amount of bad luck it takes to average -$12.50 over this long of a period of time.
I've gotten pretty good at bouncing back after a losing session, but I don't think I can stay on an even keel after such a long string of mathmatical improbabilities that has occurred since Sunday night. And that last hand was definately the straw that broke the camel's back, and it has put me on serious tilt for the first time in a long time. At least I had sense enough to stop playing right after it happened.
I think I need to take tommorrow off. I would have saved the play by play for this hand if I had planned on posting about it, but it didn't really start bothering me that much(I'm pretty good at blocking a standard bad beat out of my mind) until a couple minutes after I shut down party poker. But now that I think about it more, I am certain to be seeing that AK of clubs in my nightmares tonight.
Better luck to you all, see ya in the long run. 10/6/2004 7:10:47 AM |

Justin,
Just take a break until you've completely forgotten about the bad beats and you're ready to return to poker. The bad beats won't last forever and the law of averages will factor in. You're a solid player and solid players make money on PartyPoker. Remember that. 10/7/2004 4:25:58 AM |

So I feel like I'm a solid player but Playing Online always kicks my ass. I never end up winning at the cash tables in the long run. I typically finish in the top 5% (yes I know this isn't the best but much better than cash games). Anyone feel that there are too many callers in cash games that someone is bound to catch something most of the time and screw you over, as opposed to tournaments where people play a bit more calmly when all their tournament chips are on the line? 10/7/2004 1:37:18 PM |

Chanchiya,
If you're playing those kind of people in a cash game, you have to make those fuckers pay BIG for their draws. Don't slowplay your monster hands.
And never, NEVER go broke in an unraised pot. 10/7/2004 2:41:44 PM |
