^Davis and Everett...the two guys we signed last week, are actually ranked pretty high on ESPN.com's evaluations. Insider says they're both like 6.5....which is pretty good from them. There are some players that Rivals ranks high that ESPN has at 3.

If Chuck offers a kid a scholarship, I trust him. He may not be able to coach, but he has a helluva eye for talent.

Manny Lawson
Oliver Hoyte
Andre Maddox
Dantonio Burnette
Stephen Tulloch
Pat Thomas
Terrance Holt
John McCargo
Leroy Harris
Lamont Reid
Jerricho Cotchery

...and the list goes on and on. All of the above were 1 and 2 star players out of high school.

[Edited on January 9, 2006 at 8:30 PM. Reason : remember, that was his job for 18 years under coach Bowden. ]

[Edited on January 9, 2006 at 8:31 PM. Reason : and did Chuck recruit Thunder Dan...? May be wrong on that one... not sure if he redshirted...?]]

..there should be some good news on the recruiting front soon...which is good because we could use some good news. With BS showing us no love, the lack of big name players, and the mass exodus to the NFL....I'm willing to call this the worst offseason EVAR!

but at least we'll be able to see what happens with absolutely no expectations next year...and we'll get to see how good our coaches really are.

I didn't think we had contacted Cotchery until Chuck got here?

Burnette I knew was pushing it, but for some reason I thought Chuck was the one that found Cotchery?

Class Rankings nationally thus far according to Rivals.com

Boston College 31st
Clemson 20th
Duke 52nd
Florida State 7th
Georgia Tech 48th
Maryland 19th
Miami 16th
NCSU 51st
UNC 26th
Virginia 32nd
Virginia Tech 27th
Wake Forest 80th

51st is pretty sad so far. Barely above Duke. But we normally come on strong towards signing day don't we?

Hickman's Enrollment Delayed

By James Henderson
Pack Pride
Date: Jan 12, 2006

When he committed to NC State, Cedric Hickman planned on enrolling in January for the spring semester.

But after talking with NC State's director of football operations, Chad Jamison, he found out that it wasn't going to happen.
"I talked to Chad Jamison, the head man of the football academics at State," Cedric Hickman told Pack Pride. "There was some clearinghouse stuff that didn't get done. I'm going to take the test a couple of more times and sign with State in February. I'll probably take it while I'm at home.

"It's fine though. I'll enroll with the other guys in my class and spend some time at home this semester. I'm going to see if I can take some classes at Forsyth Tech. while I'm here."

Hickman's definitely happy to be back at home. The North Forsyth product spent last semester at Hargrave Military Academy, a prep school designed to teach structure and discipline, and he is glad that his time there is finished.

"It feels good to be at home," he said. "Hargrave got me ready for the next level, and it gets you prepared. They really teach you how to study. It was great for me.

"But there's no place like home. It feels good to be able to do the little things again, like watch TV."

Although he still has a couple of official visit slots open, Hickman stated he had ended his recruitment.

"My mind is set on NC State," he said. "I watched the bowl game, and I saw how they could use me. I was watching it when they were on the goalline, and I think they could have used me there. I kept saying that will be me next year."

Hickman was recruited to play fullback by the Wolfpack, but several programs offered as a linebacker. Either position would be fine to him, as he just wants to play as quickly as possible.

"Other colleges talked about moving me to outside linebacker," he said. "I played it in high school, and I'd have to get used to it just like I did fullback at Hargrave. It doesn't matter to me though."

Hickman chose the Wolfpack over offers from UCONN, East Carolina, and South Florida and received late interest from Florida and Ole Miss.

A 6-foot-3, 235-pound fullback, he is considered a three-star prospect by Scout.com and the nation's No. 45 running back.

^^ Don't think they do.

At least I've never seen it.

It was a lot to me as well... but considering how much time I spend on the boards and how close I follow recruiting and like the "insider" stuff, ~$8 per month is well worth it. The stories aren't what make me like the site... it's the premium boards, and more importantly, the chat. You get a lot of good info in there.

I enjoy it, but I'd love it if they could come down on the price as well

There's about 15-18 recruits heading to town this weekend for their Official Visits. They will be at the bball game on Saturday as well. This weekend and next are huge for our recruiting year.

We've got a few "silent verbals" as well, this class isn't looking as bad as some people think. Just wait til it pans out.

Raleigh (N.C.) Wakefield three-star defensive tackle Gavin Smith committed to the NC State Wolfpack shortly after last signing day. After visiting South Carolina this weekend, that is no longer the case.

Gavin Smith was blown away by his South Carolina official visit.
"I am no longer committed to NC State," the 6-foot-5, 275 Smith said. "My visit to South Carolina was awesome. It was all one big highlight. The players treated me like family, the coaches were great. I loved everything about it."

Smith, who was hosted by Gamecock linebacker Cody Wells, said South Carolina is his new leader.

"They are No. 1 now," Smith said. "I could definitely see myself going there, but I'm going to take my other visits to be sure of everything. I'm visiting Virginia next weekend, and North Carolina on the 27th."

Smith, who rated his South Carolina visit a perfect '10', will play host to Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier soon.

"Coach Spurrier is coming in to see me next week sometime," he said. "I'm looking forward to that."

Smith, who is being recruited by Dave Wommack for the Gamecocks, said he has a clear idea of where each team stands at this time.

"South Carolina is on top, then Virginia, then North Carolina and then NC State," he said. "I'll make my decision on signing day."

Exactly why I said what I did.

Best of luck, Gavin. When you're committed to NC State, try not to show up at a UNC basketball game...in UNC gear....against NC State...... and publicly pull for UNC.

Peace out

losing battles to rutgers and USF/UCF and Duke/WF was not where I saw this program heading 4 years ago

There's a trifecta of credible posters over there saying Wisconsin.

Probably eliminated them as a shock factor... we'll see tomorrow.

Some still think NC State, others think Ole Miss, credible rumors say Wisconsin. The only "Rumors", "Inside info from staff/families close to the program" are saying Wisconsin. The Ole Miss and NC State predictors are just choosing them becuase it makes the most sense

I think he's just pulling everyones chain. I have no idea where he'll end up... and this time I really dont care.

Hopefully, this Baldwin verbal will trigger a flood of verbals from this weekend's big time visitors. We need them. And I dont really care about Schaeffer all that much. If he comes here, good. If not, oh well. It shouldn't be a concern with Stone coming back and Burke coming in as well. Give me someone who's dedicated and a team player rather than someone who's only looking to get himself in the best situation to get exposure so he can go pro at his own discretion.

The only thing anyone knows about "TheWordMan" is what JamesHenderson (The Mod) said about him. He simply said "I'm not going to spill this guys personal info, but I do know who "TheWordMan" is. Listen to him... that's all I'll say".

He's not close to Shaeffer... he's close to the program. Most people speculate it's someone like Wayne Day... wouldn't be Wendell Murphy... but everyone guesses it's one of our top 20 or so boosters and obviously knows nearly everything that's going on.

FWIW: He's said BS to Wisconsin about 1.5 weeks ago... and no one's heard a peep from him since.

He's been dead on about everything he's said regarding not only NC State, but UNC also (Called 2 UNC players transferring a week before it was broken)

Now, granted his prediction was supposedly before Shaeffer "eliminated" Wisconsin... and I'm sure at one point Shaeffer had decided on Wisconsin.... but I don't know if I'd even take stock in TheWordMan's post.

Shaeffer, as you know, changes his mind depending on time, temperature, and what he ate for breakfast. There are credible folks saying everything.... Miss, State, Wiscy..... and I'm sure at one point they were all right

TheWordMan has never been wrong (In his 10 or so predictions).... and he did say Shaeffer to Wiscy about 2 weeks ago... and hasn't went back on it. I can't decide whether it's becuase he thinks it's still true, or if he hasn't been back on the boards. He rarely visits.

TheWordMan is part of the "trifecta" I mentioned. There are still two credible others saying Wiscy as well. Everyone I've learned to trust is saying Wiscy. Then again, Shaeffer will probably change his mind and commit to Oregon or somewhere tomorrow
