We are fighting through some adversity now...

How I see it: The Duke game ruined our 3 point shooting confidence. Thats pretty important. We turned from being a team which could go inside or outside, to a team that prefers inside. We have not shot many 3s, or shot them well, for the games after Duke. In fact, we've been a different team altogether.

We need the 3 point shooting back.

But we are winning the close games. Big improvement over some past years. The team obviously needs to get its swagger back, and I think it will happen. But I think the motivation for a lot of these guys isnt the same as it was. There is little to no doubt that NC State will be in the dance this year. It hasnt been that way so early in the season for any of these guys. I think they may be coasting a bit.

I had to go back and see to believe it. I seem to remember that a lot of those were in overtime. I dunno. I went back and did a sampling of a lot of past games, and we seemed to be taking and making a lot more shots on average than we have in the games since Duke.

we did miss a bunch of shots that looked good and spun out though...that kinda sucked.

yeah, it was dissapointing to see the fans sitting on their hands when we were only down by 4 with a few minutes left to go. Thats when the crowd is the most important. Not when you have a 10 point lead...

it was frustrating that we didnt try to go to ced more in the 2nd half when both of their big men (21 and milikauskas) both had 4 fouls, at least one of those guys needed to foul out. ced got 4 near the end and at that pt i understand trying to avoid getting a stupid offensive foul, but you have to go out the big men when they have 4.

ive noticed this for the past 3 years or so. we get a big guy in foul trouble and never go at them. happened in the clemson game as well. At least we won though. All acc games are tough and i'll take a win when we can get it.

i was in 113 and it was "ok" loud throughout the game...although, it did get pretty loud the times our team needed us towards the end on defense. but i do agree with that comment on finding a way to fill all the extra seats up in the 100 levels. i was pretty upset seeing so many open seats all the way through the game

As for the game...it wasnt pretty but it was a W. Our team struggles against teams with fast guard play and UVa is definately that. As we get more athletic talent in that is going to change however, and you will be able to thank herbs increasingly solid program for getting those players in.

One of UVas strengths is the offensive glass. That trailer park looking fuck Cain is definately one of the most underrated players in the league, as they mentioned on the post-game show..go look at his numbers. This UVa team is solid and in a couple more years they are going to be contenders (in the ACC)IMO.

I was in section 200 and it wasnt loud for the most part but when we needed it the place was thumping even from way up there, so I was happy with it. It did seem like everytime the team got the place going nice and loud something would immediately happen to squelch it.

Outside of the two 1 and 1's that we blew i liked the teams poise down the stretch, especially on a not-so-good shooting night.

and btw...feeding your big man is a bit more difficult when they go to a zone for half the game. you have to shoot a team out of the zone. The best way to do that? of course! seat your best 3 point shooters!

You don't have to feed the big man, but you can't effectively attack a zone without putting the ball inside. In the second half, we'd often have Cam, Grant or someone else standing at the FT line in position to attack, and yet not pass the ball inside. When we built up that lead in the first half, we were successfully attacking the zone by feeding the guy at FT line who could either:
(1) shoot
(2) pass down to someone by the basket
(3) pass out to an open shooter after the defense collapses
THAT is how you attack a zone, and that is what we weren't doing in the second half.

I dont know about you, but I saw plenty of passes to the freethrow line in the second half, not to mention the kickouts to open shooters.

Ced still has work to do on his ability to get position. A lot of times I saw atsur or bethel wanting to feed it into ced but he just couldnt get position.

V eh, the only bad 3 i saw was evtimov's. All others came after mutliple passes and were for open shooters.
