I think this film is going to do pretty damn good in the box office. Every show at the IMAX has sold out so far and there are very few seats left for the 3 shows still available this weekend.

we sold out all 4 prints tonight at my theater for every showing starting at 7pm and onward so it is going to do damn well at the box office, and X-men 3 kinda sucked so don't compare it to Superman which i feel is a very well done comic book movie. and i watched it again today before i had to clock in, it was good the second time around too. i'm starting to like it more and more every time i see it.

It was a good movie. It didn't even feel like I was there for two and a half hours.

While good, I didn't think it was as good as Batman Begins.

It hurts a bit because IMO, it parallels Spiderman 2.

- Alter ego is a dork
- Girl conflicted over two men
- Action sequences typically involve someone else in peril (Spiderman had much more action tho)
- It was more about the story than the action, etc...

I did think that the guy who played Superman did a great job. ***

There WAS talk about batman vs. superman. It was on the table for a while but it was scrapped....

I'm sure someone will do one at some point in time...but not anytime soon.

it was the right amount of time -- not too long, not too short

Singer had a lot on his plate, what with making a sequel to movies he had to assume our generation hadn't seen

I saw it last night at the imax....I really wished the intro was in 3D that would have been so hot but some of the scenes that were 3D im kinda like uhhh and they should have done better scenes. other than that the movie was pretty good and I would probably go see it again

SPOILER-semialtert.

every fucking new show is spoiling the main twist of the movie ... fox news did it this morning, "someone's super abililtie suprises the audience midway thru the movie...."

this just shows ya, see any movie you dont want spoiled as fast possible, becuase people are pricks and that doent change no matter where you go.

they really could've cut out that little flashback he had from when he was a kid. it wasn't necessary and added about 10 minutes. otherwise i thought it was great

I had a lot of doubts about this movie considering all of the developmental hell, the questionable casting, and choosing to continue the story rather than reboot. However, Brandon Routh was great...pretty good as Superman and incredible as Clark Kent. It really was like seeing Christopher Reeve back from the dead, and thats not a bad thing. Yeah, the Luthor plot was kinda bad though...too similar to the one in the first movie, yet this time the plan didnt make much sense. Im curious, was there anything in this film that made III or IV necessary viewing? Its been awhile since Ive seen either, III is pretty bad and IV is bloody awful, so Id like to continue pretending they dont exist.

This movie was ok.

Lois was done horribly IMO. the casting for her sucked. (and wtf she couldnt spell a word and had to ask the chief how to??)

cyclops was much less douche in this film than the xmen one.

there wasnt enough clark kent/lois interaction.

luthor had nowhere near enough screen time and his plot was anti-climatic and not very super-villiany. but spacey was great.

superman was done well and cast well too. and the piano scene was hilarious with the kid.

i know they wanted to leave it open but the film had no closure at all.

I heard rumor of a Batman+Superman+Wonder woman movie. This being after the wonderwoman movie and going along the lines of the "Trinity" story line with darkside, and the begining of the justice league.

I'm pretty sure that was just paying homage to the original movie. I watched it before seeing Superman Returns and there are a few parts in it when she asks how to spell something.

boring... movies over 2 1/2 hours are just unacceptable. not every movie can be an epic

and just what the hell was lex luthor trying to do? they didn't really explain his villainous plot well enough. i probably wouldn't ever see it again, but it wasn't atrocious.

They explained it very well, unless you have Down syndrome or some other horrible affliction of the mind and body that prevents you from processing and comprehending information like the rest of us with IQs in the triple digits. He gave Lois a big speech about how land is most valuable commodity on Earth because they're not making more of it and oho I have a means to create new land, ha ha, and I don't care if people die as long as I get paid. I mean, you might as well call that low-hanging fruit for the mongoloids in the audience. How did that slip by you, Corky? Were you too busy counting your fingers to make sure you still had all ten?

When Batman Begins came out I had heard that if Superman Returns did well enough then they would consider doing a Batman + Superman movie. But if they do more Superman movies they'll have to be a little darker/more serious in order for Superman to fit into Batman's world, or Batman's sequels will have to be a little lighter in order for Batman to fit into Superman's world. Sure, this Superman was a little more serious than the original movies, but not as much as Batman Begins. Besides I don't like the idea of them being in competition with one another.

They wouldn't be in competition. They were published continually in World's Finest for decades as the best superhero team-up in comics. That's why the phrase World's Finest is used to specifically refer to Batman and Superman today.

For a good idea of what a World's Finest movie might look like in terms of tone, check out the World's Finest trade paperback published in 1991, written by Dave Gibbons and pencilled by Steve Rude.

FYI, Gotham got a shout out during a news report.

Three movies down the line for both series, if they're as good as Begins and Returns, then a Superman+batman super trilogy would be fucking awesome. Epic even.

Quote :
"Batman vs. Superman is the title to a cancelled American film based on the DC Comics' superheroes Batman and Superman. The film was greenlighted by Warner Bros. in 2002 with Wolfgang Petersen directing from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker and Akiva Goldsman. The film was expected to film in 2003 with a release in 2004. Even though the project collapsed when Petersen left the project to direct the historial epic Troy, Batman Begins producer Chuck Roven believes, as of 2005, the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight will meet one day. "It all depends now on the success of Superman Returns. The current script is superb.""

Quote :
"Batman vs. Superman left a gap in the planned 2004 slate of Warner Bros. The studio rushed to produce a superhero film to fill that gap. The result was the critically panned Catwoman. The McG/J.J. Abrams Superman project was cancelled when Abrams' lackluster script drafts reached the Internet to a very hostile fan reaction and the direction of the film could not be decided. The Aronofsky/Miller Batman project was also cancelled for a lack of progress. With failure on both fronts, Warner Bros. sought new talent for their franchises. In 2003, director Christopher Nolan was hired to develop a Batman film which came in the form of the successful Batman Begins. The following year, the studio hired director Bryan Singer to develop a Superman project which resulted in the successful Superman Returns."

Not really. Superman-Batman stories always deal with how the natures of the two characters work together and oppose each other at the same time. You can't tell a good story on these two guys without making that a big part of it.

You're such a homer for X-Men it's unbelievable.

If Superman's suit had had the X-Men logo on it instead of the 'S', you'd be praising this movie as the next coming of Christ.

I'm just a little stumped how Walt Sobchak could really like The Big Lebowski, but the plot of a Superman movie is leaving him confused.

how much money does Superman Returns have to make to insure a sequel? I read it cost 260$ million and Warner Bros. was very unhappy with the 5 day opening numbers?

It cost $185 million to make. They'll recover costs, profit probably won't be spectacular...around $50-70 million maybe.

You sound like an idiot. Seriously, acting like dickhead about Marvel vs. DC is some middle-school retardation you should've grown out of when you noticed your crotch was growing hair and started staring at other guys in the gym locker room.

SPOILERS

I liked the movie and think it's about equal to X3, not better or worse. Other than plane sequence, nothing really wowed me. The whole kid situation is kinda fucked up. The other dude seems like a nice guy, but the idea that "good guys win" leaves him SOL. I did enjoy the speech that he repeats for Jor-el at the end. One of the few parts that really shows the character's vulnerability.

I did kind of laugh anytime Supes would spy on Lois. Seems very stalkerish in some ways. Always convenient the way people who spy in movies listen in on the important conversations. Clark watching Lois in the elevator was kinda cute.
