I was thinking that the aircraft carrier he was golfing on would make a nice home for me... unless the monsters can swim.

Does the army train people to shooting vampires jumping up and down walls? And was his character's army position one of combat or research?

He was a fucking atrocious shot and his position in the army is trivial. He would have had basic training, and yet he shot like a blind man. Full spray, no aim.

Also, about hanging from the rope, i'm not even sure that scenario is possible to begin with. Can someone hang unconscious from a rope without breaking their leg or otherwise being hurt very badly? Or risk having some type of stroke/blood clot in their brain?

He could reach the rope with the knife, and therefore could reach it with his fingers and therefore grasp it with a hand.

At the very least, he wouldn't fall 5 feet on his back and stab himself.

And, if you were alone with a dog by yourself for 3 years, you'd be talking to mannequins too.

Ignoring the obvious flaws with this line of reasoning, I'd at least be proficient at zombie shooting.

There are valid criticisms about this movie, but nothing you mentioned falls under that. It seems like you didn't like the movie because it wasn't like the original, which is fine though.

The other criticisms are of plot holes and effects so terrible that pointing them out would be an exercise in noting the obvious.

OK, so you've stated that you hate this movie because Will Smith can't shoot, and he had trouble getting out of a trap that knocked him unconscious and left him hanging upside down for hours.

K......

1. Army, not marines. He likely hadn't fired a shot in years before the outbreak. Besides, police officers shoot like 12% at close range, such as the range Smith was fighting. I can't remember what sequence you were talking about, but I know all the sequences he was fighting it was very close range and under distress.

Quote :

Because those are completely equivalent. If you said he could grab his foot while cutting the knife then yes, I could see your point. However he was having to grab his pants leg if I remember correctly, and could not have reached the rope easily enough. Hell he had to rest from trying to cut it the first time, he was having a lot of trouble staying conscious/reaching the rope.

I don't really see how he stabbed himself though unless he just fell awkwardly.

And you're a total faggot for trying to come up with a justifications for a shitty movie.

I don't fucking care if Will Smith's character was in the national guard, Delta Force, or Securitas Mall Corps.

It doesn't even matter.

Why?

Because the movie was fucking terrible and the main character was an emostriking douchebag.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahha The mannequin didn't say hello!

how could this happen to meeeeeeeeeeeeee

Let me go try and commit suicide thereby giving a convenient opening to introduce two new forgettable characters (one of which happens to be a hot female go figure).

I would agree that the zombie mannequin trap was a tad bit contrived, but they needed a plot device. I don't know how the original story went, but I would have preferred if the ending wasn't so neat.

I don't recall any scenes with exceptionally bad shooting though.

I liked the movie, one of the better movies i've seen recently.

on another note, I think I'll have to see 28 weeks later, which according to my friend is a completely shitty movie, but he enjoyed this one. could be interesting to see what you people who prefer 28 weeks are talking about.

yea maybe it was that one

both had huge plot holes or continuity oddities he pointed out, like in 28 days were they were in a huge firefight, about to get destroyed, then a '...later...' scene change and everything is just dandy. something like that

then in 28 weeks the british civilian is given all inclusive rights to US intelligence, kisses his immune wife and gets the aids and proceeds to devastate the military facility from inside the safe room that has no exit or protocol for an infection in the safe area.

i havent kept up with the whole thread, but this page is interesting. i kinda liked the movie but didnt try to pick it apart, i just tried to enjoy it. and whats this about 28 days/weeks later? ive seen both and while 28 days is pretty decent, there are definitely better zombie movies out there. i didnt even see i am legend in the same realm as most zombie movies though. just a different all around kind of thing with a few survival similarities.

Well, the problem with that is that because it's grounded, there are a ton of ways to get aboard. The Intrepid is a monument just like the Yorktown in SC, and while I haven't yet been to the Intrepid, I've been to the Yorktown more times than I can remember. It's just not defensible at all since it's handicapped accessible - meaning that you can literally drive your car right up to the hangar deck lift. Even if you could secure that 100 yard "pier road," you'd still have much too large an area to fortify if the monsters were to breach that choke point.

I'm still so hung up on seeing those armored vehicles early in the movie. It just makes so much sense to me to have an APC sitting right outside the house as a last-ditch-until-dawn holdout. I don't care how strong the monsters are, they're not going to get inside an armored vehicle by using just their bare hands. Even if the APC was inoperable, I feel sure that in 3 years Neville could have found a way to tow it to his house and park it.

The combat tactics in this movie just drive me crazy.

why do you people assume that the creatures were the ones to set the trap? it looked to me like will smith was just starting to go crazy and forgot about one of the traps he had been setting up.

1) The trap would have served no purpose for catching the creatures.
2) A creature was waiting there with restrained dogs in order to attack Will Smith.

^^ That's what I thought too.

But the evidence from the book combined with the lack of black sheet and the zombie thing holding the 2 dogs as if he was keeping them makes me think it was probably the zombie things.

I don't see how the zombies could handle a rope, make the loop and all... They had to rip a whole thru the roof to get into the house.. If they can handle a rope, plan out the trap, you could unlock the front door.

If they are smart enough to see that Neville is setting a trap and figure out how it works enough to make their own, I would think that they would know not to fall for anymore. Like if they smell blood and see a vial on top of a sheet, I'd think they would be like:

Although I think it would be too much of a coincidence that the same zombie dude that stuck his head out at Neville just happened to be waiting in that building with 3 zombie dogs ready to go.

the zombies did show more intelligence than Will Smith was giving them credit for, such as the one dude that was all OMFG YOU DID NOT JUST TAKE MY GIRLFRIEND. But honestly if they were smart enough to rig up a trap that complex, you would think they would be smart enough to build other shit to, which there was NO evidence for whatsoever in the movie.

and I didn't read the book, and it shouldn't be part of this debate, since they are separate and clearly different.

Some of them would. But that's one area where this differs than other zombie movies... not all the zombies are the same. Some are smarter/dumber than others.

Yeah, it kind of surprises me people even question that... Whether you think they SHOULD realistically have been able to make the trap is debatable. But it is obvious that you, as a viewer, are supposed to know that they set up the trap.

It should also be obvious to any casual viewer that as soon as Neville said they are getting desperate and dumber bc the male exposed himself to UV light,.. That he misunderstood and was wrong. my fucking gf even said that as soon as it happened. and she still doesn't even "get" the Matrix.

It's not obvious that Will Smith set the trap at all.

You can argue that, because he's clearly loosing his mind, but it wouldn't be an easy argument given the fact that the film devotes so much screen time to the Zombie 'General' as it were.

^^The zombies having moved one of his mannequins out into the street is what set him off. He went off the deep end because he knew that he didn't move it and he thought the zombies were too stupid to do it themselves.

I just watched this movie, right after watching Resident Evil III. From the previews of I Am Legend I was excited to see it but I was pretty disappointed. Will Smith did a good job, but there is only so much acting can do for a pointless movie.

what, are you retarded or are you just being sarcastic and i missed it? clearly will misjudged them when he said that they had completely socially devolved, and the zombie with the burned face was pissed off at will for taking his friend, so he copied his trap to catch him and kill him. how else can you explain that he was waiting for him as soon as dusk came around with the dogs, and how else can you explain that they repeatedly showed him in every scene that had zombies in it?

playing the devil's advocate. I do see how it makes sense that he misjudged the vampire things, but it's a huge jump from "oh this vampire thing is pissed that will smith took his girlfriend" to "oh, these creatures actually have higher level reasoning skills, yet choose to live like animals and eat people in lieu of the abundant wildlife that is available to them."

it's just as reasonable in my opinion to get from that whole setup that will smith partially set up a trap to get more of them for testing, but forgot he left the mannequin there for bait because of the whole "will smith is going bat shit post traumal" theme in the movie.
