w00t, I CAN WALK!!
not very well and it hurts, but damn it i'm doing it.
doctor's report today was positive, the bone graft is filling in really well. he indicated it looked well enough i shouldn't need any more surgery. i do still have a low grade infection right around the graft area which has to be monitored closely.
lots and lots of physical therapy still to come. i'm so freakin happy to be walking on my own again though, even if i currently suck at it. 4/19/2007 7:17:34 PM |

^^^it was hilarious, your girl and your sister were just getting out of the car... we slowed down and let it eat through first/second. came back and they were standing on the porch like "we thought someone was trying to pick us up, tehehehe"
^not as happy as i am! that's a big HELL no for a bike or scooter, lol. i wouldn't mind getting something to stunt with or do track days sometime in the distant future, but i will 100% sure NEVER ride public roads again. it also wouldn't be anything with a title or street legal so i'm not tempted.

oh yeah, i verified my manual driving skills tonight as well. damn it was nice to change my own gears again. surprisingly, i still have decent clutch control (not what i had before), but strength/stamina is definitely an issue. after driving around town for 30 minutes or so, my leg was worn out.
even did a little heel/toe and rev matching. i'm rusty! 4/20/2007 1:05:43 AM |

well, it's not taking very kindly to the whole walking thing. lots of pain/aching all over, the worst of it in my ankle/knee/hip. my ankle and foot are really swollen too.
going to call the doctor tomorrow and see what's up. i definitely expected some issues, but not this much. maybe it's normal though. i think i might be overusing it. 4/22/2007 9:27:23 PM |

so, i found out this past thursday i have to undergo another surgery. seems the infection is STILL hanging around in one spot, and trying to spread a little. also as a result, i have a hole/cavity in the original incision that hasn't ever closed up since my last surgery and constantly drains fluid. you can see all the way to the bone through it also. the doctor wants to cut back into this area, look around, take some cultures, and clean things out.
i have my good days and bad days with the pain. swelling is still a pretty big problem. any extended amount of use and everything from the knee down grows to about twice the size of my right leg. looks almost comical at times.
my muscle strength/stamina has definitely improved. mobility is slightly better also. 5/8/2007 12:18:34 AM |

i'm not sure if i'll have to do any more hospital time or not. i'm really hoping it'll just be a same day thing, but i don't know yet. he's supposed to let me know when he makes a final decision about how much he's going to cut into it when i go back on the 15th.
^yeah, i'm down. we haven't done them in a while.

nah, it's just another doctor visit. actually my regularly scheduled one, the one this past thursday was a result of some excessive pain and a fever on wednesday. both signs of the infection acting up. he said it'll probably be scheduled sometime at the end of the month/beginning of june.
it might cut into my going to utah and 4 wheeling in moab fun at the end of the month though.

so did the car run into him? yes.
did the car have the right of way? no.
this would present an opportunity to sue for the huge ass medical bills, pain and suffering, etc. doesn't matter how fast the car was going.

haha, this dude is just trollin. i'm surprised one of the chit chat tards hasn't wandered in here before now.
Quote : | "I hope you are suing the living shit out of the guy who hit you." |
i can't. under nc law, as long as he has insurance he's protected from being sued. so is the insurance company. all you can get is whatever his coverage dictates. that is why it's very important to carry as much underinsured/uninsured coverage on your own policy as you can.
besides that, i have to say i would have a real moral dillema with ruining someone elses life over an honest mistake. had the guy been drunk or grossly breaking the law by speeding excessively or something i'd probably feel different. he simply didn't see me though. we've all pulled out in front of someone by accident before.
i fully understood the dangers and risks of riding a motorcycle. while i certainly feel like the insurance companies should cover my exspenses, i don't really feel like i should have the right to put someone else out on the street financially unless they had done something really negligent. i took the gamble on riding, and lost. part of that responsibility is mine to shoulder.
all that said, i would sue his insurance company if i could. not an option though since they've paid the max allowable on his coverage. i'm still battling with my insurance company, and that may end up going to court. insurance should be responsible for any and all of my exspenses, that's the whole point of having it.
Quote : | "moab? do tell you biatch, I never heard of this trip." |
yep. it's actually just a utah trip in general, but plan on spending at least a day maybe two in moab. definitely gonna hit bonneville also. probably renting a wrangler unlimited.5/8/2007 11:17:07 PM |

oh, i have no problem draining the insurance for every dime i can get to ensure all of my past, current, and future exspenses are covered. the main emphasis being on future, because i have no idea what might happen months or years away.
just saying despite everything i've gone through, sueing him personally i'd feel kinda guilty knowing i might have taken someone's house, posessions, etc. from them just so i could make sure i was living comfortable. if i was going to be out alot of money, or he had been really negligent, i would feel different.
it's a moot point anyway though. i don't have the option of sueing him or his insurance company for anything beyond what i've already gotten. it's down to my insurance company now.

surgery #9 tomorrow, woo hoo! back in the hospital for another ~5 days.
on the list:
-clean/cut out infected area.
-replace rod with a fresh one.
-run a drill bit up and down the inside of the tibia. apparently this makes your body think the bone is broken again, and promotes faster growth at the bone graft area. it also packs bone shavings into any cracks/holes still left.
-do a skin graft on the portion of the infected area that's being cut out. 6/5/2007 10:48:39 AM |
